So is tryptophan considered non-essential for prokaryotes which contain this gene? Do humans lack this gene and enzyme? The reason I ask is because I know tryptophan is considered essential for humans, which I think means we cannot synthesize it. Here you're talking about an enzyme which can synthesize it. Just making sure I understand all of this.
