Tim took me from loving baseball to LOVING baseball. The intricacies, the intrigue and strategy of the game that he introduced in his commentary were eye-opening and have remained with me through the years. Also, his kind soul and respectful nature was a treasure to behold. I am saddened by his passing and will relish my experience of him.

And he had a great voice for baseball. A twang with a big vocabulary. I played serious youth ball and loved his sophisticated analyses. He set the bar for a long time, especially in the pre-analytics age.

I grew up listening to Tim McCarver call Mets games and I absolutely loved his broadcasts. Listening to Al Michaels describe Tim's modus operandi for calling games makes me want to go back and binge a lot of those games from the 80s and 90s. What a career. Rest easy, Tim.

Michaels, Palmer and McCarver were great, and what a relief it must have been for Al to be told that Tim was going to replace Howard Cosell. Cosell hated baseball and thought it was too dull, as he wrote in one of his books.

I remember listening to Cards games on radio when I was a kid. Being from the suburbs of Memphis, McCarver was our hero. One off season Blasingame, Hicks and McCarver were signing baseballs at a downtown department store and mom took me and my brother down to get a ball signed. Still got it after 50 or so years. Loved him on Fox sports towards the end of his broadcast time. I can't remember the year he did world series with Vince Scully. A fine pair. We made several family trips to St. Louis to see the Cards. Twice in old Sportsman park. One double header Daddy was tired and we left a tied game early. McCarver hit a grandslam to win it in the 9th. We heard the crowd but didn't know what happened til we got to the car and turned radio on.

I don’t think there has ever been enough said about how amazing of a broadcaster Tim McCarver was & sure enough, Al said it at 5:00 mark..he really was the Madden of baseball. He was much more than the basic former player-turned-analyst, but a skilled teacher of his game. No matter if it was a Mets or Phillies game for a local audience or the World Series for a global one, Tim was the exact same & never mailed it in. He deserved more respect & appreciation than he was given.

2001, seventh game, bottom of the ninth, AZ has the bases loaded, Yankees have Mariano on the mound. Score tied 2-2. Luis Gonzalez at the plate. McCarver says: the yankees have the infield in and against left handers Mo tends to saw them off. What happens next? Mo saws Gonzalez off, ball barely makes it out of the infield dirt, AZ wins. Great call Tim. RIP

Tim McCarver robbed my favorite baseball player of a home run….as a catcher. I also remember during the World Series in 2005 his talking about a relief pitcher on the Astros who had given up some key runs in a prior appearance but that he was way past it. The next pitch was hit out of the park for a walk-off win by the White Sox. High larious

Tim McCarver was arrogant jerk who during. 1986 world series was openly bias for Mets . I was so happy Deon Sanders called him out during Braves world series against the Blue Jays. McCarver was fraud and most players wanted to hit him. He would been awful manager and McCarver could not hold Madden jock strap.
