I'm half white and Filipino, I live in Alabama and I go to a high school. White and black people mainly go their and maybe 1-5 Asians go there out of the entire school. It's pretty rough tbh, many of them enjoy bullying Asians, like, a LOT. I plan moving some day.

My half-Asian half-White family also went to Alabama once. Idk if it was where we were in Alabama, but Jesus it's like we were the most disgusting and interesting thing people there had ever seen. I waved and smiled at them and people often responded with surprise or disgust. I was 7 at the time, but I don't think I'd ever really wanna go back lol. The family friend (who was white) we visited there, was also super surprised and horrified at how people were treating us.

Omg, I so can relate😂 I’m an American born Chinese from Boston, and long story short, I was visiting Alabama, I felt the same way, I was so nervous, I’m saying to myself “wholly shit how many Asians in Alabama, I think I was the only one in the airport ( and at Walmart) I felt everyone was looking at me. I noticed how slow paced, (moseying along) they were in the grocery stores, not like up here in New England. Here in New England it’s like “ move the heck out of my way” Hahaha like I said long story short I married my husband.

I've gone to mobile Alabama before, as a stop on a road trip to Pensacola, Florida. We were going to visit the USS Alabama, and some of the visitors there were actually really friendly to me and my family. I'm Asian. Either the south makes me uncomfortable, but I also know that southerners can also be really polite and have good manners.

Thanks for that!! As a born and raised, 5th generation Southerner myself, I think it’s ironic how all people seem to think it’s okay to find one of the five certified idiots in the south and use them as the poster child for all southerners. If it’s not okay to do that to any other people group, why is it okay to do Southerners like that? And while I know it’s comedy, it’s all becoming tired. No Southerner is perfect, we have pasts we’d like to change, but honestly, life in general is funny without stereotyping a whole group of people that you don’t have regular interactions with. Of course, it’s Friday. So, maybe I’m being overly sensitive. . .

I had the exact same reaction when I first arrived in Kansas. I knew that Kansas is a state. I just didn't know how quiet the roads and interstate are compared to my home city. I literally was looking for a sign of life on the road, only to see a few semi-trucks here and there a few minutes each...and a few cars in between. That's what you see in rural US, and that's not a joke.

I pick up the great traits of this Country, keep the good training I had growing up in Asia.
