Alabasta saga is the starting point if u want to dive into 'what one piece really is' rabbit hole. Now, you already watch OPLA, there is some hints sprinkled throughout s1. For example: what nami said to zorro after opening safebox in the boat, world gov insignia, and many more. A lot of hints about one piece treasure is subtle in OPLA. At this point onward, the worldbuilding became "the background" kind of type ('if u not paid attention enough, you missed it'-type) and the world itself is starting to 'makes sense'. You should try to questioning more about culture and tech in this world. Good review and video. I wish you could discover more fun in one piece.

Glad you loved it! The Alabasta saga was what made me fall in love with One Piece. And it gets more fun as it goes on! One of my favorite series. I enjoyed the filler arc honestly.

12:10 Well, they said that in the Grand line, Devil fruits or Akuma no mi are much more common, but, if you think about the "frequency" of them appearing, it's not "everyone" that has one. The top members of Baroque Works were selected because of their strength so almost all of them have one, the two guardians of Alabasta (an almost strength type position) have Zoan fruits (the most common ones), Ace is the second commander of White Beard's crew (a strength type position) so he has a devil fruit, Smoker and Hina are captains in the marines "mostly strength type positions) and so they both have devil fruits. It's not that Akuma no Mi are everywhere it's just that "big players" are much more involved in the arc and, in One Piece, to be one of the "big players" you almost need a Akuma no Mi, it's not a coincidence it's intentional

Love how you're following both the Manga and the anime at the same time. Haven't seen any other creators do this for this first time through the story!

One big thing to consider about luffy vs croc is that luffy was written to be a big fish in a small pond to mirror what mihawk said about zoro. Luffy beat don krieg and arlong in the same day while not really taking either of them serious until the last hit and croc matched luffy on powers but lagged behind luffy in every other aspect. couldnt take hits, couldnt quickly dish them out either. he's not a man used to getting punched so once luffy could punch him it was pretty much over and in the end croc was never stronger than luffy he was just more experienced and luffy has always been resourceful in his fights but they were usually for him being silly and messin around but vs croc it was 100% serious and tactful.

I have to say, it's pretty unique seeing someone experience the manga and anime side-by-side and compare the two--I think it makes for a great review. Also tackling the filler arcs was not something I expected you to do, but I'm all for it--especially a certain filler arc later down the road. The Alabasta Saga honestly still remains one of my favourite in all of One Piece, and the Alabasta Arc is my second-favourite arc. It's great to see that you're enjoying it as well! In terms of going by Arc or Saga, I'd say go by arcs for the most part, but for smaller arcs packing them in with other arcs might be a good choice instead. Either way, it's up to you. Great commentary! From now on openings spoil a lot of stuff. Trust me when I say Robin joining the crew is a very minor spoiler compared to what is in future openings. As for Sanji being in the background, with more people in the crew, Oda tends to rotate which characters get focus in the arcs. Luffy always does stuff, and then the rest kinda gets turns to being MVP, or getting great character development, or getting the badass moments.

When it comes to the vast variety of devil fruit usage in this world, you have to take consideration that to the average guy they are still rare. One Pieces world is 2.7 times the size of earth, so narurally its population size would be bigger too. It also isn't surprising that when climbing upwards in the world of pirates, those with devil fruits would pop up more often due to the advantage of power that comes with the fruit. So yeah, expect more devil fruit users to pop up 😅 Glad you're enjoying the series. 👍

Any question that comes to your mind throughout this entire show, will be answered in some capacity. The answer is usually will not be directly given to you but will be slipped in. The Mysteries are what are great here. We only learn the answers to these Mysteries as Luffy does unless the narrator feels that pertinent some people know the answers to your questions but not the straw hats

11:47 Devil Fruits are still rare, but the Grandline itself is mystical and dangerous, so more strong people especially those who have a Devil Fruit enter the Grandline. Plus, the East Blue is called the weakest sea (and almost as ordinary as our world), so Devil Fruits or in short Fruits are very unknown. 18:52 I recommend to skip the openings until you either are caught up or have finished reading around 600 chapters to watch until including opening 14. The openings are notorious for spoiling anime-only fans, but there had been instances when an opening has spoiled even up- to-date manga readers. Personally, I like arc by arc more than saga by saga. Because it's usully more condensed and focused than having to remember all of the little details in each arc for a saga review. But if you prefer saga reviews, then do it! However, I'd highly recommend to do arc by arc for the fourth saga because it's more epic than the Alabasta saga. Thanks for this review and have fun reading! Arbitrary straw hats not getting enough time in any given arc/saga is something you'll need to get used to. Happens pretty consistently, especially as the crew gets bigger.

Alabasta is still in my top 5 arcs even after all this time. Amazing arcs still to come!

Lost Island is not cannon, it is a filler arc ... that's why it is so inconsistent

Devil fruits are much more common in the grandline, there's no official reason yet, but common speculation is because the strongest people tend to gather in the grandline.

Im a manga only person so I never actually watched this dragon filler arc so I didn’t know there was a moment where Luffy read a creature’s mind. Thats gonna make more sense hundreds of chapters later but also… it doesn’t make sense because that would mean Toei saw 20 years into the future. Also I’d just like to say that Sanji getting lost in this saga is sort of the point. What you sort of get to understand that while he is a heavy like Luffy and Zoro, he is the best at thinking about the bigger picture and doing a key thing in the background that makes everything succeed. Like, if he didn’t do the whole Mr. Prince shtick and keep a low profile he wouldn’t have been able to save the crew during the whole banana crocodile thing.

To explain the fruits a little, and trying very hard to lean into lore not spoiler. No, there is no tree. They simply spawn on random fruiting trees after the previous vessel expires, be that fauna or flora, so even if the fruit is destroyed, it will grow again elsewhere. It's almost like the earth itself is the first thing to "eat" an expired DF user, and plants grow a fruit instead of gaining abilities because, you know, they're plants. Effectively, the power just works its way around the food chain manifesting in different ways depending on the host. I have no idea if bugs can manifest DF abilities, but it could be a fun little bit of side content. Yes, that does mean that if a wild animal manages to get the jump on a DF user and kill them, it will gain their power. If it's a pack effort, the power goes to the first one to eat the victim.

16:18 The live action (spoiler free) is a very ""lesser"" (to put it lightly) version of the original story in regards to characterization and developing characters, Coby goes through a nonsensical arc in that where he says he's a marine and it's going to capture Luffy the next time they see each other just to end up standing up to his commander to defend pirates (he would be better off leaving the marines and going for a bounty hunter, he's in the marines for a week and in the first chance he gets he goes against direct orders), also, he has absolutely nothing to really do in the live action because he doesn't have much to offer as of season one, so they put him in every episode but with little to no impact in the story. If you edit the live action and literally remove all the marine scenes after the first episode, it's a better paced show with absolutely nothing lost except the spoiler about Luffy's family. Tashigi has a much more proper arc of her own where she doesn't contradict the marine code lightly, she cries about only have being able to help pirates dealing with the problem instead of being the marine hero she thinks people expect of her, you can see how serious she take her position as an officer and how much it took on her dignity to point the way to Crocodile to a pirate, so that's why she cries, because she is frustrated about her weakness and her sense of duty to the people of Alabasta. The Live Action Coby has a superficial and laughably worst arc of that

I found lost Island a pretty cool story. But I watched it from the lense of watching it after some major events later in the story making a lot of the weirdness less weird. Not everything but enough of it. And I kinda wish it was canon and would just get the continuity errors fixed by putting the island and its story on the grand line after Alabasta, because that would fix the Zoro issue and some of the other things are probably happy little accidents that upon rewatching with spoiler knowledge felt like foreshadowing.

Please cover arcs at once cause they do get longer further in the story

Please do the next 2 "sagas" in one video: Skypiea and long ring long land. One of those is short and the other one is the least favorite by the majority of the fans

Filler arcs are filler for a reason, they have no bearing on the story.

luffy can kinda talk with animals, but he does not get words, more like intention from the animals, that includes seabeasts and other future colossal beings. Now Chopper can really talk with animals.

The first Arc you're talking about isn't a real Arc. It is complete filler and breaks half the established rule system. it's a fun art to watch if you're not the serious reader, but if you are into lore, it's garbage and should be skipped your first time through

Pluton Oh and you won't learn much about Robin until Water 7 and Enies Lobby arcs. So you got a long while to go yet for that.

Also skip ahead in the anime past the Rainbow mist bullshit arc. It is not canon filler rubbish. I am skipping all filler. I watched a little bit of the filler. But just to get caught up I am skipping all filler from that point onwards. I don't care. If it is not canon, I no watch.
