I can’t believe they cut the giant snake-sword battle... that was one of the best climaxes in Disney animated films

It seems to me that they did a rookie mistake; making the villain boring. Jafar has to be charismatic and devious for his role to work. Especially since he's really the only villain in the story and doesn't have a band of henchmen to play off of.

I realized the actor that play the sultan is also the shadow king in legion, which made me wonder, why aren't they cast him as Jafar instead. The guys is proper age, he acted as a cunning manipulated dictator in the show, he even look like jafar. I swear he would be a way better jafar

I thought Jasmine and Jafar were the worse parts of the film. Jafar was just a weak act, he wasn't threatening or imposing enough as a villain. I think for Jasmine they changed her character a little too much. In the original, her arc was about love, she was being forced to marry someone she didn't want instead of following her heart and true love and all that, whereas in the live action her arc is about power, she wants to rule the city as a Sultana (not Sultan, Sultan is for men, it's like calling Queen Elizabeth the King of England) because she and everyone else around her thinks she'll naturally be a good leader for some reason. Aladdin and Will Smith were perfect. I loved the songs, Will made those songs familiar to the fans yet unique enough by adding his own flair, a lot better than the song remakes in The Jungle Book. Jasmine's song was completely unnecessary though. It felt a little long too, they added a lot of subplots and interactions it seems just to fill the screen time and it could have been done without. Overall, I agree, 7/10.

The way genie broke the rules in the original was he shook Aladdin and forced a nod from the unconscious aladdin when he was drowning, suggesting Aladdin to ask genie to save his life. He took Aladdin’s nod as a yes

Well, Joe ain't speechless-----so Aladdin can't be *as* bad as the Game of Thrones finale.

Conclusion: It's decent but it could have been a lot better.

I have to admit even though I understand the point of “Speechless” and introducing a new story arch I love the song, but it feels very out of place within the frame of the movie. It feels way to forced and interrupts the pacing.

No idea whats the problem. Saw it yesterday and it was fun. The casting choice for Jafar wasn't good but everything else is fine. I'm positively surprised by Will Smith.

Joe, the 3rd Aladdin is called: Aladdin & the King of Thieves. It's about Aladdin finding his Father as the King of Thieves and find the ultimate treasure that turns everything into solid Gold. Great movie to end the series whenever that Aladdin TV series ends.

He was getting genie with it, nana nana na na na. I thought the movie was okay. Not great. Will carries it, surprisingly. Wouldn't re-watch.

Couldn't agree more, the forced women empower movement from Jasmine, reduced role of Iago, and although the dances were great, it felt unnecessary to put that in by taking out some of the plots from original animation. Also, their choice to replace the climax of the movie with some crappy angry bird chase scene really got under my skin. Will Smith as genie was one of my biggest concern, but he did a fabulous job, and was the saving point for this movie.

My overall comment is that this version lacked the emotions the cartoon version had. The one part that bugged me was when Aladdin was captured. In the cartoon version, Jasmine thought Aladdin was executed by the order of her dad. When she found out Prince Ali was him, the reunion was more special. 2nd, somewhere in the beginning of the cartoon, Jafar, with the help of Iago, already plotted to marry Jasmine in order to become Sultan.

That girl who did Jasmine is just so beautiful.

Pros: Music and songs, Aladdin and Jasmines relationship, the Genie was funny (Robin Williams is still best) Jasmine has more of a character. Cons: Jafar was annoying, Iago doesn't do much, the climax was not that intriguing.

Yes, in the animated movie the Sultan is about to bow while Jasmine goes "We'll never bow to you!" and the Sultan basically goes "Um yeah, what she said." and Jafar goes "Okay, if that's how it's gonna be, Genie, I wish to be the most sorcerous human ever." but they handled it poorly, they could just for example have had Jasmine sing that song while evading the lesser guards Aladdin-style with books, tapestries etc. in her imagination but they just brute force through it with swords etc.

Anybody notice the head on OJ's shirt matches the genies body in the background below hahaha! Can't unsee it!

I hoped there was more comedy in there. Like the marketplace scene in the original where jasmine almost got her hand cut off and Aladdin saved him and acted like Abu was the Sultan to make it look like she's crazy was so funny. Here it's just too bland.

In the animation, Jafar was arrogant and prideful. - He started as a trickster.. someone with a staff that had spinny eyes. (He used it to control the Sultan because he knew the masses wouldn't obey him.) - He then wished to be the Sultan because he has always desired the throne. - Then he started thinking larger, "I wish to be a real sorcerer." - When he fought Aladdin he revealed his true colors, he revealed himself to be a Snake. ;) - Jafar bragged about his power, then Aladdin goaded him. He taunted him by claiming, as a sorcerer, he would only ever be second best. Jafar took the bait and wished to be an, "all powerful Genie!" - Also, Jafar was keeping Jasmine as a prize.. he only wanted to marry her to become Sultan himself. Edit: Jasmine was strong willed and independent in the animation, doing as she pleased. Her father, the Sultan, was against her free will in the beginning because, "Royalty has rules." She didn't need to say it, we all knew it. In the movie... She has to keep saying it because nobody believes it or cares.

in the cartoon he says "oh you think im a snake do you ? lets see how snake like i can be" and turns into a giant cobra witch makes sense then aladin tricks him into becoming a geni becuse he knows that will trap jafar in the lamp. they removed this from the live action so it makes like 0 sense

When Jasmine stole the lamp couldn't he just teleport her and the lamp back to him like he could teleport the guards to the dungeons ?!

I think the scene you were thinking of in the animation that showed their friendship was when Jafar wanted to get rid of Aladdin when he thought he was a prince. He had the guards throw him off a cliff and Aladdin landed in the ocean. Genie rescued him. It was a tense moment in the animated movie.

This 2019 aladdin Film is Felt like Indian Film(Hindi) or Bollywood Film To Me.

As a life-action remake it was really good. I have to compare it to beauty and the beast and this one wins. One of my problems is the new song from Jasmine. It just ruined the the whole vibe.

100% agree about the last act. The movie built up everything SO well that I was looking forward to the giant snake scene. They didn't make Jafar seem as powerful as he did in the animation. And the scene with Jasmine on top of that made the end feel slightly unsatisfying. Without the good end for Genie, the ending would like have felt really bad.

The Jafar stuff worked for this version. It gave you as parallel for Aladdin's ambition. The age worked and he seemed more believable in the live action setting.. Just my opinion
