I never thought they’d one up the Old Gods musical mission from Alan Wake 1. Then they did it with Control. Then I never thought they’d one up the infamous Old Gods Ashtray Maze sequence from Control. But they’ve done it again in Alan Wake 2. This is what a unique studio full of talented, passionate devs, that is willing to take risks looks like. And man does it pay off. We need more of that these days.

@@1nosurprisezz I feel like a lot of people haven’t. I’ve talked to people lately as well that say they started control but put it down before the bizarre stuff hit because they thought it was slow. Less have played Alan Wake 1, even less have played Quantum Break, and even less less have played Alan Wake’s American Nightmare. Lol. Lots of people played Max Payne but not everyone even knows Remedy made those. Lol. I think Wake 2 will be a great gateway game for people to discover their back catalog. Which is consistently awesome and unique. Especially with Control 2 and Max Payne 1 and 2 remake on the way. Remedy is really coming into the full mainstream and you love to see it. One of the last risk taking triple A devs out there. Even Quantum Break, while their most standard cinematic title, was one of the best time travel stories in any medium nevermind just gaming.

@@Andriej69 Everytime someone mentions anything about graphics, there's some pseudo purist like you that pretends that appreciating greater fidelity means you cannot appreciate anything else. Greater fidelity allows for perfect composition, and like in this instance, it elevates the scene. To dog on people for enjoying that is akin to shitting on people for appreciating or favouring good narratives over everything else in games, it's mindless elitism. Just because the core of the art is interactivity doesn't mean you cannot appreciate anything else about it. We'd have not gotten anywhere if people all thought like you.

@@johncallof8839 That sounds like copypasta from reddit, also you're completely manipulating my point. What I said essentially meant is that relying purely on graphics (in this case even a single visual gimmick that is gay tracing) creates a very shallow experience. AW2 has other merits too, but often games have nothing impressive about them except for presentation, and without good story and gameplay, even the best graphics aren't worth shit - interestingly, the same does not work the other way around: many great games with amazing writing, story, voice acting, gameplay loop don't have advanced graphics, yet they work without them. Your little pitiful tirade can be hilariously reversed: sheeple like you, who drool over inconsequential, yet pretty shit like RT, are the reason even AAA games in 2023 still don't have functioning mirrors (yes, that includes Alan Wake 2). BTW RE4 Remake is still superior

The way Remedy uses AMV is incredible and really innovative, this has to be the best use of the medium I’ve ever seen in any video game. Considering how bad AMV was used in the 90’s I always thought it was cheesy and not artistic, but here it’s brilliantly used to tell the story as well as add a bit of comedy. It fully leans into the cheesy nature of AMV, but at the same time delivers some banger rock music. But it’s never self-aware to the point it’s a wink and nod to the camera breaking the immersion.

When Alan is on the screens it doesn't feel like he's really "going with the flow" if you get what I mean , like he comes across less like a performer and more like marionette that is reluctantly going through the motions. Not sure if I'm reading too much into this, but it really feels like this whole segment is just the dark presence fucking with him.

I think that it's more likely that Mr. Door is the one in control here. I think he's like coaching Alan on how to have a better understanding of the rules of this reality. If you played the game in the end there are two revelations. He's not stuck in a loop but in a spiral. You can descend or ascend the spiral. Alan was stuck inside this reality after a traumatic event, and his confrontation with the dark presence/scratch led him to believe that everything was bad about it. But the fact is that the reality he's in is not bound to only horror stories, any form of art affects it. So you can descend in horror and madness, but you can also ascend to fun and epicness like this song. Mr Door at some point ask Alan to do one thing for him in the future (it's not specified what) and that is why I think he's coaching him. He needs something from him.
@genkotone7979
@genkotone7979 9 ай бұрын
Mr. Door most likely wants out. Even tho he's a Paranatural Entity, the deal the Andersons made with the Dark Presence most likely made sure that Door won't be able to find a way out. He blames Alan for all this because, just as Alan himself basically said, "Mr. Scratch is me, I am the Dark Presence" or smth like that

I wouldn't get the game based on this scene. I'd watch an hour or two of one of the full playthroughs. For me, this scene is one of the only highlights in the entire game. I keep coming back to videos of this scene and Dark Ocean Summoning, because they're *that* good, but watching a full play through of the game, I came away thinking that the rest of the game is a vulgar (enough F-bombs are casually dropped by most of the characters in the game to glass a small country), relentlessly oppressive, agonizingly slow, rambling mess. Also: you don't even play as Alan for more than half the game. Even when you are playing as him, he's mostly stranded in the same location, literally running around in circles, out of his mind. It's hard to find a story compelling when the hook is that even the real-world writers don't know where they're going. I'm waiting a week or two for the hype to die down, just because I'm curious about what the _real_ world thinks about this game.

@@purplecowadoomI personally have the complete opposite opinion, for me this is one of the best horror games, one of the best stories and one of the most unique experiences i’ve had in a game. yeah sure you don’t play as alan the whole time but even when you are playing as saga alan is still central to the entire plot of the game the entire thing is about him even when you aren’t playing as him. alan being stuck in the same area and it constantly looping is the entire point of the game he is trapped in a nightmare world that is constantly shifting and changing and trying to keep him trapped there. it seems to me that you just failed to understand the story the game is trying to tell.

@@montana4515 No, I got it. I even correctly guessed 99% of the "twists and turns" in the plot within the first couple of hours. I'd been all aboard the Remedy hype train until this game took my enthusiasm out back and killed it. On Steam, I have all of the achievements in Alan Wake, American Nightmare, Quantum Break, and Control. I just don't think this game was good. American Nightmare already did the loop mechanic. It wasn't good there either, but at least it was somewhat engaging, it felt like Alan halfway knew what he was doing, and he was clearly progressing towards an ending where he could win. This was really~ slow. I have ADD. I know when something is bad when no matter how much I want to get into something, literally anything else will divert my attention from it. This was one of those. Eventually I started rapidly fast forwarding through half-hour chunks of the game, 5 seconds at a time, until something (anything) actually happened. Combat is almost non-existent. The puzzles are bare bones and uninteresting. The Case/Writer's board stuff aren't puzzles at all, just a one stop shop for crude exposition dumps. I'd say the story ended in the same place it started, except certain plot developments mean it ends a few steps back from where the *first* game started. And the non-stop barrage of swearing. I understand the real world is the real world, but I hate swearing. It was minimal in all the other games. In this game it was a deluge of filth. I felt like I needed to mute every other word the characters said. And take a shower afterwards.

@@purplecowadoom well you are entitled to not like the game but pretty much everything you said is wrong. there is plenty of combat throughout the game maybe not quite as much as alan wake 1 but this game isn’t meant to be alan wake 1 again this is a different game and a different style of game. alan wake 1 was an action game with elements of horror and this game is a survival horror game the whole idea is that you are meant to be low on ammo every encounter with an enemy is supposed to be intense and the game handles that perfectly. you didn’t experience that same tension and intensity because you decided to watch someone else play the game instead of playing it yourself so you aren’t experiencing the game the way its meant to be experienced. i think had you experienced the game for yourself and if you had the patience to sit down and enjoy it you would’ve had a good time with it but i’m guessing survival horror just isn’t for you. i’d be willing to bet you feel a similar way about resident evil games and silent hill games as you do with this game.

@@montana4515 You would lose that bet. _Supernatural_ horror usually isn't for me. Survival horror is fine, on the rare occasions where it doesn't overlap with supernatural elements. Alan Wake is an odd exception on that. Not really sure why it doesn't bother me in the same way. I have played through RE4 and 5, and watched playthroughs of 6-8. I know the gameplay appeals to me, but don't play them any more because I'm disgusted by the over-the-top body horror, and 7 and 8 (especially 7) play out like snuff films. I also really don't get the point of RE in general after 5. Wesker was the bad guy. Chris killed him in a volcano with a rocket launcher, as you do. The End. I digress. Silent Hill I don't touch. One of my favorite series is Dead Space though (which is also odd, given my problems with RE's body horror), so you're not going to peg me as just "the wrong kind of person for this" and disregard the rest of what I said. I already established that I know what I'm talking about. I already said I *watched a full playthrough of the game* . Yeah, I started spamming my right arrow key a bunch to advance the videos, but I stopped doing that at the first sign of anything *at all* interesting. I didn't miss anything. I know *exactly* what combat is like, and how much of it is in the game. It's a slowed down, bullet-spongy version of the original's combat. I wouldn't mind _that_ , except that for most of the game you fight a couple enemies an hour, max. You can have your horror and your fighting too. "The-Thing-That-Was-Hartman" in Control was terrifying. My complaints are mostly based on things that are *objectively true* . If you liked the game, great. It sounds like a lot of other people do too. Anyway, I think I'm done. I'm just really frustrated as a long-time fan that I waited 13 years and *this* is what we got. I guess this was my outlet. Still here for the music though.
