This is a lecture given by Alan Watts in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, which can also be found in textual form here:

Probably one of the best of his talks I have heard, I hope you may find this as inspiring.
Music Featured:
Extract of "NÖVO PIANO by Maxence Cyrin (Kwaidan Records 2010) blended with orchestral/symphony background
Original score: Pixies - Where Is My Mind

When his son comes after you for a copyright issue and has this video taken down, keep posting it. This exact video has touched millions of lives but Alan's son doesn't care about that. His greed doesn't understand that clips on KZfaq are responsible for his father's teaching reaching new generations in the first place.

Two years ago, this particular talk opened ways of thinking and perceiving that many of millions of people pay thousands to a therapist for, in hope of achieving around about the same effect. Provided Mark does not request it to be taken down, I will keep this in place. But as you point out, we live in a world where info is sensitized by copyright and infringement etc, this will always be a potential barrier. I just hope it does not come to that, time will tell

Please tell young Mr Watts’s that his father would be terribly disappointed if this magical piece had to be taken down due to some copyright paperwork. And we ALL know this. This is marvelous, just marvelous and it’s everything that Alan Watts could have hoped for, to celebrate and amplify - his work, insight and grand message!

The music is irritating, hypnotic. Imo, Eckhart Tolle explains this msg/ insight much better than Watts. Boring, up til 44:50. Nice representation of Icarus. Imo, this isn't Watts' best explanation of his msg/insight. @34:00: "It's no longer possible to practice contemplative prayer at (catholic) mass... The biggest ego trip going is getting rid of your ego...but your ego is an illusion...If u can't transform yrslf, u can't control yr thought & feelings; just watch them. 46:33: Verbal chatter in the mind. We live in the eternal 'now'. Guru competitions: I'm more aware than you are, more evolved, more spiritual, more loving than you are."

I looked up the poem at 2:00 The Laws of God, The Laws of Man by A. E. Housman (1859-1936) The laws of God, the laws of man, He may keep that will and can; Not I: let God and man decree Laws for themselves and not for me; And if my ways are not as theirs Let them mind their own affairs. Their deeds I judge and much condemn, Yet when did I make laws for them? Please yourselves, say I, and they Need only look the other way. But no, they will not; they must still Wrest their neighbor to their will, And make me dance as they desire With jail and gallows and hell-fire. And how am I to face the odds Of man’s bedevilment and God’s? I, a stranger and afraid In a world I never made. They will be master, right or wrong; Though both are foolish, both are strong. And since, my soul, we cannot fly To Saturn nor to Mercury, Keep we must, if keep we can, These foreign laws of God and man.

for anyone who's really interested, perhaps this will be interesting. I'm paraphrasing but I think this might be the most powerful and wonderfully uselsess bit that I sought to understand: Think of the ego as a thief looting a very tall building. When the cops arrive (self reflection) the thief will move up a floor. The cops, having found no thief on the main floor will also move up a floor. So on and so forth does the ego disguise itself as a higher form of consciousness, until we reach the roof. The theif has nowhere to run and the police are bound to catch up... what now? Thanks for hearing me out, if indeed you did.

This lecture has single handledly helped me accept my own dimise. The human race as one will bring about its own demise. There is a reason we only live for 100 years give or take, if we live for any longer we would be quite frankly FUCKED!

I believe it’s an instrumental version of “where is my mind” by the Pixies. Heard it in Fight Club and fell in love with the song. Edit: found it - music.kzfaq.info/get/bejne/et6TaNiq09u9mqs.html&feature=share

He would probably see it as the logical consequence of our illusory belief systems. I doubt he would be too surprised.

Hey would say, "You cannot make a mistake because of who you really are. There really are no problems." The terror that bad might win, is what makes the good things possible. Don't be deceived. The two go together. 🖤🤍

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: 00:37 Watts *argues that the concept of "I" is a hallucination, a false sense of personal identity that leads to inappropriate actions in the natural environment.* 01:47 Mistakenly *viewing the environment as separate from ourselves has led to destructive actions, including environmental degradation.* 03:12 Watts *emphasizes the interconnectedness of humans with the universe, stating that people are expressions of the energy and nature of the cosmos.* 05:33 Describes *the relationship between organisms and their environment as a field of behavior, highlighting the mutual influence between the two.* 07:26 Humans *often lack a vivid sensation of belonging to their environment, leading to a focus on individual ego rather than recognizing their integral connection to nature.* 08:54 Watts *critiques the limitations of human intelligence, particularly its linear scanning system, and warns against interfering with genes to overcome these limitations.* 10:47 Discusses *the challenge of dealing with multiple variables in human thought and behavior and how linear thinking limits our understanding of complex phenomena.* 15:21 Watts *highlights the distinction between the world as it is and the world as it is described, emphasizing the vast difference between direct experience and symbolic representation.* 16:24 The *notion of "I" is challenged as Watts explores the feeling of existence, pointing out that our sense of self is often tied to a limited and illusory image of ourselves.* 21:45 Watts *criticizes the impoverished image people have of themselves, emphasizing the incomplete understanding of their physical, psychological, and cultural aspects.* 26:21 Watts *discusses the chronic tension associated with the concept of "I," highlighting how awareness of an organ's functioning indicates dysfunction.* 30:01 The *ego creates a chronic tension within, leading to a futile illusion about oneself, causing a sense of impotence and an inability to transform.* 31:23 Changing *oneself is a common pursuit, but true transformation involves addressing the collective selfishness and finding genuine love for others.* 32:31 Many *seek spiritual development to change egocentric consciousness, but traditional religious practices often lack effective methods, leading to a pursuit of alternatives like Zen and yoga.* 35:18 Attempting *to improve oneself implies a paradox, as the self that needs improvement is the one trying to improve, highlighting the futility of such efforts.* 37:25 The *biggest ego trip is trying to get rid of one's ego, but in reality, the ego is an illusion, and there is nothing to eliminate.* 39:52 Mystical *vision becomes accessible when the main obstacle-identification with the self-collapses. The realization that transformation is impossible brings joy.* 41:39 Meditation *involves observing thoughts without trying to control them. The deeper level of meditation arises when thoughts naturally come to silence.* 45:00 The *notion of a separate controller (thinker, feeler) dissolves in meditation. The grammatical rule of subjects and verbs doesn't apply to the spontaneous occurrence of experience.* 46:42 Meditation *reveals that one lives in an eternal now, where past and future dissolve. The sense of being a separate, isolated individual fades away.* 51:07 Transformation *through meditation is hindered when approached as something to be achieved individually, leading to spiritual competition. True transformation is in realizing the interconnectedness of all beings.* Made with HARPA AI

You put out some valuable content. A little off topic maybe, but there’s this woman I got in touch with during the lockdown which cost me my job. Ms. Norman Davis helped me manage my assets by introducing my to the best investing platform and strategies, I earned a lot of $$$ working with Norman at the comfort of my home. I still keep in touch with the amazing lady

I have a master in mathematical finance, so it wasn’t so easy to get me convinced to begin an investment without me carrying out proper research on her. I had her broker ID checked and she’s fully verified! So I began with a few bucks, only to get huge returns in a month. I reinvested and now I get long term monthly returns… So glad I don’t rely on pay checks anymore.
