loved this. When i was about 9 or 10, i took a mouse trap and did the exact same thing you did with the time but i used a 9 volt battery, steel wool and some fishing string as a trip line. I would hook it to firecrackers and play capture the flag with it. or i would use the 9v battery and some wire connected to some steel wool that wraps around the fuse of a something and just blow things up haha

With out dismantling you can solder positive in bell knob and and take that connectivity from bell crown and given to spark. Now you set timer as usual in clock. When time comes bell knob carry current and passed on bell crown now spark would come.

Hook it directly to the motor, instead of powering the motor (to make it ring), it will ignite the solar fuse

also.... do you think the AA battery would be enough to ignite anything? They only pump out 1.2v I doubt it would be enough actually.

You could prob get a AA battery to work. Couldn't find a data sheet that had any max discharge ratings but most the internet says they can dump 5-10 A for a decent quality AA. That would prob be enough to get a 1-inch span of a thin strand of copper red hot (sorry I don't feel like doing math right now cause I'm really tired so I'll give you a bunch of "prob" "I think" and hopefully that helps ya out a little). If not you could add a capacitor to help dump more current. Don't worry about the volts thats not (very) important in this case. Try to get your Amps as high as possible. Using thin gauge resistive wire would also helps some (its what I use). My fireworks igniter uses 4 AA connected in series (+ to - to + to - etc) to make ~5V (prob to run the radio receiver). Being connected in series boosts the voltage but current output remains the same which means 1 AA would have the same output current as 4 AAs wired in series which means you could get away with one AA (assuming my igniter doesn't have any capacitors in its circuit). Hope this helps.

+ Thomas Gronek I though of that, but it would have taken more extensive mods to the clock (attaching other parts to the motor, cutting out bits of the frame to fit it in, etc), so I decided to go for the simpler method. THat would be a good thing to try if I decided to make this a more practical usable thing for setting off fireworks or something.

you could also use a digital timer but the digital timers that you find don't put off enough voltage to trigger an electric match so you can hook it up to a thyristor the method you're using is not reliable at all and a electronic timer is very reliable

By the way it would be very easy to turn what you made in the video into a bomb it would be very simpleall you would have to do is put the electric igniter in a pipe bomb

Why wouldn’t you remove the hammer motor (for the bell) and connect your circuit to where the motor was so it supplies voltage to the new circuit instead of the hammer motor which would in turn ignite your cap-powder and fuse? After watching further I still stand by my comment but I love your coil on the fuse idea - would work better with some coils from a vape pen though, less wasteful than using copper too

@@jakemakes meh, it’s three years old. Cut yourself some slack. I’ve been messing around with fireworks and custom airguns and hand cannons for decades and I’ve never once thought to do a coil around my fuses to help with ignition so you couldn’t have been that dumb 😂 Honestly: I love your videos, old and new. You should check out TechIngredients - I oddly found your thru him and he’s been one of my favorites for years and I’ve always tried to support his channel. But I was actually thinking - maybe you could incorporate your coil idea with your pumpkin video and your war mace: let me explain bc that sounds insane… if you use Kanthal instead of Copper wire then modify the war mace by taking the spikes that you edge-grinded down from the huge nuts/bolts by wrapping the ends of them with kanthal coils (assuming they’re conductive metal) then embed an old used vaping MOD into the handle where holding the trigger on button of the vaping mod heats the Kanthal coils: you would essentially have the potential to do something similar to what you did to ignite your pumpkins via a cheapo stun-gun - except by producing extreme heat instead of high voltage low amperage arcing across two wires. You’d have to modify the MOD clearly bc you can’t just run Kanthal the whole way up to the bolts - and maybe it wouldn’t work and it might be more dangerous than it’s worth so I am by no means recommending it 😂 both because you’d be able/forced to use 18650 batteries to power it and because using 18650 batteries would inherently make it way more fun and dangerous but speaking of TechIngredients there is a video on his channel regarding custom epoxies (not the new one that’s just about thermal epoxy) which you may find useful if you ever experiment with those things again.

I wonder if the hot wires would be enough to ignite it over such a short timespan as a swing. Never messed with kanthal coils or any other wire heating for that application so I haven’t a clue. But I doubt it. Would be interesting to try. I think I’m subbed to that guy... did he link me in a video or something? 😅

Lol it’s just hard looking back at old videos with the knowledge I have now 😂 I just get to wondering what I was even thinking. I’ve learned loads about electronics this year. My next vid that I’ll be posting next week is run off an arduino. Had to learn a bunch of crap for that... anything electrical is usually pretty much dark magic to me

I even modded out my old 7 year old electric scooter to sit me and my daughter, go 35mph for 2 hours without needing to recharge and her seat even has a seatbelt and harness with a storage basket behind it 😂 But I wasn’t even thinking about ignition- I was just thinking the Kanthal would heat the bolts enough (and super quickly) to “Brand” or severely burn any pumpkins you swung it at. But since you mention it: yes. It would most certainly ignite. I’ve had them ignite cotton before back when I used to vape - because I forgot to put vaping liquid on my cotton and coils before hitting the button. I used sub-ohm MODS that I made my own coils for. I’ve got some extra ones I could send you to mess around with. Do you have a Patreon? I could message you on there And he didn’t link you but someone in the comments did - it was really funny actually because I love science youtubers and I couldn’t believe I had never seen you before! It was like discovering a diamond in the rough. I can’t believe you don’t have more subs. I can also help if you have any chemistry questions: that’s one of my many degrees I don’t use for my work but I use all the time for my hobbies and homeschooling during covid 🤣

Cant you just take out the motor without breaking anything and replace it with a sensitive explosive with a strong explosive attached to the sensitive one
