A divisive issue for sure. There was no discussion, no compromise, and no informed decision making by the Liberal parliamentarians. We have non-gun owning politicians describing policies they can’t understand, but that they crafted, not for public safety reasons, but to score political points with urban voters, who themselves mostly don’t own or understand firearms. “You don’t need an AR-15 to bring down a deer” … “Weapons that were designed for the battlefield have no place on our streets”. These statements are clear indicators that the responsible politicians don’t understand what they are legislating. For example, in the first case, if one were to take an AR-15 chambered in NATO 5.56 mm deer hunting with military ammunition they would then face legal and moral consequences, and not because it is too powerful or deadly, but because it won’t ethically dispatch game reliably. Respecting “weapons designed for the battlefield”, well, that is almost every firearm- those that are designed and intended for hunting are based on military firearms. The differences between a hunting rifle and a battle rifle may be slim to none as they are usually one and the same. Where a modern manufacture hunting firearm is concerned, it it likely better built and more accurate than its military grandparent. By saying battlefield weapons don’t belong on the street- what that is saying to to hunters is that rifles in general should be banned. Hunters have no idea what comes next.

Good thing his present job doesn't require him to practice law. Especially in a country where the law is being fashioned to support one group of people. A group of people who can as the minority (27% of popular vote) win elections based on the disproportional dispersion of seats in Ontario and disregard the majority (31% of the popular vote) and spend seven years disenfranchisong them. When the system disenfranchises people they look outside the system for leadership. Crime is up 27% during the Liberal regime and that's what causes violence. 97% of gun crimes are committed using illegal firearms. So the solution is stop seeing how poor and reliant on government handouts you can make people and they won't commit crimes. Then go after the organizations selling illegal firearms. It would be more effective than spending all your time weaseling shifty bills in without the parlimentary process as a minority government which has NEVER behaved like a minority government.
