While it's known as a great practice tool, the Zoom B1x4 is also a capable all-in-one pedal that's actually pretty good for live performances. I'll show you the patch I built and how I used it for a 70's themed rock show.
Get the Zoom patch here on my Patreon: www.patreon.co...

Thanks for the most instructional video I've seen on KZfaq. I first came across your channel for the "How to sound like.." videos and loved your style. I'm a newbie bass player and have been wading through the sea of pedal and DI reviews and was pleased to see this video on your channel. What I wasn't expecting was to learn how much you were able to achieve with just using your onboard tone control, picking/plucking and hand position on the bass and how this enabled you to cover a wide range of music genres so effortlessly. Inspirational. And a great insight into using the B1 Four. For someone like me just starting out, it looks like it the perfect tool and it means I don't need to spend almost as much on a higher end pedal as my bass cost

Very appreciated. The layout, order, and fxs you used sounded very appropriate for when and where you used them. Navigating the zoom's can be more involved than desired. B3n owner here, not as experienced as you, so, this really opened my eyes/ears to what the practical application of these multi effects pedals/processors can do. That play list was such a trip down memory lane... new sub liking this content!

I've got the Zoom B3 (slightly older model than this). I gig with it all the time and I've ditched my other pedals. At a gig all you need to do is set up your amp, plug in the pedal, plug your bass into your pedal and you're ready to go. The B3 only allows 3 pedals to run simultaneously but some of the presets have 2 sounds combined. What I really like is the built-in tuner, especially as if you press and hold the tuner is activated and the amp is muted, great for between sets as I usually check the tuning at the start of the set and then unmute and I'm ready to go.

Zoom fan here. Used to gig my B1-Four in a similar way, as 5 separate effects. A little clunky if I wanted to turn an effect on and off during a song, but really, what mattered most was how it sounded, which was fine.

@ampthebassplayer 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that’s always the trade off. It’s not as elegant and easy to use as individual pedals, but it is a lot smaller and lighter than a full pedalboard. For gigs where I only need an effect or two, the Zoom does just fine.

Nice to see someone else who runs a Zoom B1x4 into a Rumble 500! :) I found that the B1x4 comes preloaded with a lot of very usable patches right out of the box. I also have the Zoom B3 and Line6 Bass Pod. They were mostly preloaded with exaggerated sample patches to illustrate the capabilities - I had to design my own patches with both of the latter to get something usable on stage. Instead of using the up/down pedals in edit mode - I like to sandwich my base patch (compressor,amp,cabinet) between a copy with a Flanger and a copy with an overdrive (or whatever "special effects" I might need). This way, you can easily use the Flanger by selecting the adjacent patch. You could even use the expression pedal (with it linked to the drive control of the overdrive patch) and the you'd only need 2 patches.

B1 Four is something but B3n is superior and I do not exactly know why. I gigged with B1 Four on a professional stage, going directly to PA. Then, I bought B3n, and set it up with the same settings as in my B1 Four (only compressor and amp sim without cabin). The sound guy did not know I changed my processor. He just wanted me to tweak the master a bit. (B1 Four was 80%, and I had to decrease B3n to 50%. At the end of the gig, he said "your tone was really good today, went very good with the drum kick".

I appreciate this video - there's lots out there about the quality of the effects, but few people talk about practically using this device during a show. Many Thanks for the Vid. You have given me hope as i have been struggling with trying to and incorporate my Zoom live. Question - you say you use a Fender Rumble 500, do you plug Zoom direct into the guitar input or do you put it via the effects send/return?

I don't use the effects loop. All of my pedals go straight into the input of the amp.

@@ampthebassplayer Awesome - thanks for your help. One more question - what settings do you then run on the Rumble amp? Do you tweak the pre-amp settings as well or run flat?

@@tyco666 I usually start with it flat and typically end up boosting the low mids slightly and lowering the bass a bit.

Hey I am wanting to use this pedal with my friends just to mess around and maybe use in gigs. I was wondering if I can use my foot to control the pedal so I don’t have to reach down to the floor to turn something off or on midway through the song. Any help would be amazing

Yes, it has a stompbox mode where one of the foot switches cycle through the pedals in your patch (you can have up to 5) and the other switch turns effects on an off.
