A phone call from Canadian TV star Alan Thicke brought Trebek to the United States where he launched a career as a game show host in the '70s, which eventually led him to "Jeopardy!"

I can’t believe that Alex was 80! He looked like he was not a day past 60! Rest In Peace Alex! You are and forever will be truly loved and missed. You were an icon with the upmost highest standard of professionalism, dignity and character. I only hope I can be even a tiny bit of a good person and man you were.

“Jeopardy!” was a quiz show that was actually before my time, when Art Fleming was the host. The NBC television network originally carried it from 1964 to 1974. Thanks to its revival in 1984, I got to watch “Jeopardy!”, but with Alex Trebek as the host of the show. I was age 5 at that time of the premiere. I grew up on “Jeopardy!” and “Jeopardy!” grew on all of us: In our homes, whenever the show was on, playing a copy of the home game and the video game version of the show, and even in our classrooms, as a method to prepare for an exam. What Alex wished before he passed was the show to continue, Even I wished the show to continue, mainly because of the things we may or may not have been taught in school, which eventually ended up on the show. RIP Alex Trebek. Thanks for making learning fun.

@@buckeyewill2166 Jeopardy! with Art Fleming also had a syndicated version and was revived with him in 1978 in NBC. They had a feature in that version that I've always wondered why it's never been apart of Alex Trebek's. It was called the Run A Category Bonus. They started a jackpot with $5,000 and each day a person DIDN't run a category, another $1,000 was added until a contestant finally ran a category. The jackpot was separate and wasn't added into the daily winnings. I truly wish they'd resurrect it because it would surely put an end to the idiocy of jumping all over the board, harem scarem without even knowing what a category's actually about. Ironically, Art Fleming also passed away due to pancreatic cancer.

@Benj Smith Productions his wife has a corpse next to her on a swing. She has to get off, he most likely slumps to the ground. He lays on the ground until coroner takes him away. Idk

Honestly, that makes me happy that he died in the way he wished next to the woman he loved... It’s sad that he’s gone, but be glad that he was here and was the man that he was.

I have no more words anymore . I’m speechless. I can’t believe my eyes . What is jeopardy without you. They might as well end the show now , because there is no point of continuing without you , o dear boss . You will be missed and remembered in our hearts and especially for us jeopardy fans . I remember in 1984, for the revived version of Jeopardy, they hired Alex as the host because they show would have a long run and they felt that needed a young host like Alex. They got more than they bargained for.

9:10 another game show legend.....Johnny Gilbert, who filled in for Bill Cullen on the original Price is Right, is 96! He and Alex had quite a rapport on Jeopardy! The game show world lost a big star to Heaven, but we have plenty of episodes!!! RIP Alex - you won Final Jeopardy!

For the first two shows did in the States, it was one of the rare cases where an emcee would have a show cancelled on a Friday, and be back with a new one the following Monday. Only a few others have had that happen to them that come to mind. I can also think of Art James, Tom Kennedy, and of course, Bill Cullen.
