Alexander is my favorite pianist. He might lack a little skills, but he's the only guy to play the etudes so profoundly. And the Ballade F minor, I love the 6/8 time, so smooth and free, he's the only one to play outside the box so far. Not to mention the vibe and completeness, extremely impressive. He definitely deserves the final.

@Mazzel Tov If you listen to the Etude in F major carefully, there are a few mistakes(especially in his right hand), but most of them are minor. Let's see how he's going to play the sonata op 35 when he reaches the final.

I think the first qualifiers who chose SHIGERU KAWAI this time made the right choice. This piano clearly highlights the individuality, technique, and poetic state of the pianist who plays Chopin's piece, and is a very impressive and memorable performance for the listener.

You can never predict competition results. Unless someone is so far above the competition, it can be pretty random. I don't think Seong-Jin Cho winning the last time was random at all. He really had a gap between himself and the other competitors, and it was consistent throughout the competition. Blechacz was that way too. Not every competition has been like that. That said though, I am hopeful that Gadjiev advances because I like his playing. He has a very nice sound and range, he communicates and doesn't draw so much attention to himself or his technique.

Your great-great grandmother's Chopin is back.Hofmann and Rubinstein ,Arrau had stomachs and fire but now!Again like in Armellini's playing where is the discomfort the harbinger that Chopin was of the new unease .It ain't here .I hope Liu has it. Gorgeous smooth lines will that be he 21st century legacy.Chopin was deeply troubled and not a kind person This is the first time op.25 no.7 made me cry . It seems neurosis and anxiety in Chopin is being wiped off the pages and the stages .Is this what the record companies want to sell.? Relaxing Chopin and Scriabin and Ligeti .It's not right I've never heard more class and artistry or sense in no.8 FM etude . This is what the music isreally about ! Genius ! Gadjiev We will hear more from this remarkable musician !!! His left hand tone was remarkable and his phrasing and the two voiced duet in BMajor in no.7. I just heard entire Armellini recital but this young man (TEXTURES!) has a way of melding and mixing color ! His fminor Ballade seems finer than any recording I've ever heard .
