She is great but her coach forcing all the skaters to learn quads and do multiple quads a program like this, is harming women's figure skating, NOT pushing it forward. The reason why these girls can do quads like this, something unheard of and unseen all this time, is because Eteri is willing to resort to abusive and cruel tactics to achieve this. Being a Olympic level athlete is hard, and they should be proud, but the quads are the result of starvation, depriving them of water, because Eteri realized if she can keep these girls as small as possible, if she can delay their body going through puberty, and teach them to rotate in a way that is incredibly damaging to the back(as seen by the girls from past seasons who have had to retire before the age of 20 due to injuries, typically to the back, some so severe that the poor girls have permanent damage and are unable to twist/turn their backs ever again) that they can pull off quad jumps for a few years max. Eteri has caused more injuries than any other coach in this time span, she has caused multiple skaters to develop anorexia because she admits to severely restricting their diets, she had Yulia on a all POWDER nutrition diet and both Eteri and her skater's have stated they cannot drink water around competition time because even a single GRAM of weight gain can disrupt their ability to jump quads. Eteri breaks young girls and because quads have now become this gold standard, it is concerning that other coaches might be willing to risk their skaters health and safety and future career, all because Eteri is being rewarded for her disgusting abusive coaching techniques. Look at the podium from this year's Olympics, Anna and Sasha are absolutely tiny compared to most of the other skaters, figure skaters usually have muscle mass, strong leg muscles and this helps them with their sport, but it makes being able to stay in the air long enough for a quad jump, almost impossible.....but the answer to that isn't to starve them and dehydrate them like Eteri does. Skating has been an amazing sport for so many years, without the need of quads and Eteri has proven with the list of injured girls and early retirements, that the risk is not worth taking
@saxumbonum
@saxumbonum 2 жыл бұрын
@@Juwlz I need more people to understand this! The technique is both harmful and not sustainable. There's no glory in being able to do quad jumps if you have to break your body to achieve it and can't have a career longer than a few years as a result.
@Juwlz
@Juwlz 2 жыл бұрын
@@saxumbonum exactly!! Finally someone who gets it lol it's really sad how many people don't see the massive problem happening, these poor girls are being starved, forced to think of food in a way that creates eating disorders/terrible relationship to food, forced to learn techniques that will cause lifelong damage to their bodies and sadly when I mention this to people in comments, too many times they care more about the fact that the girls can do pretty jumps than about their wellbeing. It's so sad and because it's being rewarded it is causing other coaches to try the same terrible techniques for a chance at a medal. Honestly Eteri needs to be removed as a coach, she's hurt too many of her skaters

I will add that this is the Olympics - the most important competition in life for an athlete. There is a certain burden of responsibility: not to fall. Therefore, the face is restrained.

Robbery is a tradition at the Olympic women's figure skating. Trusova had the fierce spirit of a warrior princess, an irrespressibly unique flair, and the fearlessness to attempt 5 quads (landing 4 cleanly), and still somehow lost to Anna's much less difficult program in 2022. Evgenia, the pretty doe-eyed two-time defending world champion expressive artist wearing the most beautiful dress in Olympic history in her "Anna Karenina" free skate, somehow lost by 1.31 points in 2018 because Alina gamed the system by backloading her long program with jumps to gain technical points (it took her 2+ minutes to attempt her first jump). And Adelina over Yuna Kim in 2014 Sochi was the biggest homer-scoring joke in figure skating history.

True not just about jumps and she did leave out a lot of her choreography to concentrate on her jumping passes but this is a competition at the end of the day. It’s about points. Trusova had it in her head that if she managed to land the five she would be well clear especially after Valievas. She took a gamble doing it all too. The Russians have been pushing the boundaries in ladies competitions for a considerable time now and it’s exciting to watch. Was stagnant for a long time. Twizzles are for ice dance lol 💃

Stop this team program BS and have three categories for figure skating: athletic (focused on jumps), artistic (focused on flexibility, musicality and port de bra), and individual overall (for both). All the emotions related to this performance... to see this smile... literally only those who truly follow figure skating will understand. The 40 days before this performance, watching practices in the middle of the night, worried that of the 2 practices every single day in Beijing, she did this only once, knowing she's been dreaming about this achievement for so many years, being the target of so many critiques, withdrawing from a Grand Prix due to a serious ankle injury a few weeks before nationals. Then knowing how wrong the judging system is and how robbed of the gold medal she was. Her scoring was fair, but others weren't. This is the true gold medal performance and the true history made. Every 4 years there's a new Olympic gold medalist but there will never be someone as iconic as Trusova, she's the embodiment of everything the Olympics represent and too bad judges couldn't follow through.

Sasha actually beat Anna in free skate. Kamila beat Anna in short program yet Anna still takes the gold

@@kateirahmarieify the drama was focusing on Kamila though. She choked in her freeskate and Sasha tried to comfort her. Then the cameras followed Sasha who ended up having a meltdown. Meanwhile Anna sat by herself in silence in the waiting room. Not sure if she should stay or comfort Sasha.

@@Snowfang00andco There was really nothing Anna can say to comfort Sasha, being the person who took what Sasha dreamed of doing since she was a kid (of course, it would've been Anna and Kamila's dreams as well). I initially thought that it was fair that Anna won, but now having a better understanding of figure skating, Anna's technique has way more problems than Sasha, especially the inside edge lutz and 3/4 prerotations. Regardless, what's done is done, I can only hope that Sasha can have her moment, whether it's in worlds or if she manages to go for 2026

Sorry to see her so upset later but she needs to understand that Olympic gold is not for most quads or making history or setting new records, Olympic gold is for best in show. And Anna was best in show in this night.

Sasha lacked emotions and made small mistakes on her landings. It is her fault for assuming that just performing her quad jumps would be enough. She counted too much on it. There's more to skating than that fortunately. Anna performed better and deserved to win.

she was absolutely perfect and made an history!!! elegant and powerful and a bit of agressive at the same time. incredible and exciting to watch. I understand soft and more elegant movements are considered better for women ice skate programs but this is no fine arts, it is a sport in the end. I am seriously rooting for this girl for the next olympics! just like power is not much without the elegance, elegance is not much without power and she clearly shows that for my pov. a perfect combination she has! sending all my love

When I watched initially, I liked Anna’s program better because I thought it was more elegant. But watching it over now, I think it’s just because she has a pretty face and a more fragile physique. Sasha is the real Olympian and the true champion this time around. I do think that artistry is very important along side with technicality in figure skating. But when you push limits like Sasha did with her athleticism, that deserves to be rewarded in nothing but gold.

Jumping can be a form of expression when you're doing it like this. Jumps come from technique but it also can come from rage, anger, from massive excitement or pure happiness just like when kids run or jump in the rain! For the sake of fun. I jumped to express many things when I was a skater and I feel this from Sasha and it gives me massive energy ⚡ this performance was so pure.
