What a pleasure to watch true craftsmanship! It really helps to show people exactly how much has to go into creating good shoes that can last LONGER than the sole of the shoe. As well as why the cost may seem high but what you get will last a decade instead of months.

@@abelis644 It very much depended on your income level and your cobbler. Some would have standard sizes and churn out adequate shoes for workmen, which would still be hand-made, but not custom and not great quality. But others would indeed provide the best fit for every adult in their community. Also, you can see why, from this video, so many children once went barefoot as much as possible!

@@Monsieur.Nobody. Unfortunately, I can't help you with regard of material used, but it could be a medium hard plastic type. My father ( and please do remember that it was over 60 years ago) had standard wooden lasts in male/ female sizes. After taking individual measurements he would ' build the last up' using pieces of leather, eg, the width in all areas or arch support hight could be altered to individual parameters. You can get standard plastic lasts on Etsy, or possibly other sources. There is also videos on KZfaq by podotools with information how to customise standard lasts. I hope this helps. Best of luck to you.

Wow, the countless hours of practice are evident in your finished product. Even while empty and resting the shoes appear dynamic rather than static, the life of the artists should be evident in the finished piece and even on the tiny phone screen your shoes appear to have soul. I'm sure that in person they are mind blowing. Thank you for sharing your process, I thought the sound was perfect, I felt as I were in your shop silently observing you work your craft, I only wish I could smell the leather.

How much money does a pair of handmade shoes actually cost? And how much time and expense to make them. Would there be a legitimate reason for boycotts? Otherwise the process of grooming & gelding looks slightly distasteful, even if you were Oliver Twist and a valued supply of commodity to somebody. It does have a slight air of Industrial Revolution era about it; except back in those days, anybody with some expendable income could walk into any old hat & shoe shop…it wasn’t like pretty woman, where you had to dress and behave in a particular way just to make a purchase & fit in with the social rules of being a customer.

This was great to watch my father in law and brothers in law all make bespoke shoes, I used to watch them making them and learned how through them mostly father in law. He made them for 55 years before he got I’ll and passed away, watching you do this brought back good old memories, my love of all thinks bespoke, came from him, I had already worked in Jones the boot makers N’Hampton so my father in law gave me the most knowledge about real handmade shoes, he made me two pairs that I keep as my feet got older and bunions appeared, he was I. The middle of making a pair for my deformed feet before he passed, I kept the last and leather and all he’d made till this day, though now none of his sons work as bespoke shoemakers now, we all still love to get shoes made not bought off the shelf, cost more though i it’s worth it as they fit perfectly and last for donkeys years. Thanks for your video it was excellent craftsmanship.

Wow I would love to own a pair of shoes made for me. I bet they feel so perfect you could walk all day in them without any discomfort. I used to work in the limb industry and during my apprenticeship was shown how the remainder of the limb was cast in the same way you did with plaster. Areas of relief were added and the leather was soaked and stretched to fit the cast. I watched as skilled leather workers would hand stitch just as you did it was an incredible process.

The most meticulous thing I have ever sat and watched, particularly without fast forwarding. I was captivated by all the work and how it would come together. I’m also impressed that you have such beautiful hands to actually work with them, in particular with leather - it seems it would be hard on your hands/skin, perhaps you moisturizer, but either I was impressed all around.

Everytime i see a pair of shoes for 1000€+ i thought why would anyone pay that amount of money for shoes? You can buy a pair for 100€ or less. But then i found clips on KZfaq and realized how much work and love for detail put into a great pair of shoes. So thank you for showing someone who has no knowledge about shoes why they can be this expensive. Great work and awesome Video.
