From Ruger: (keep in mind ours was a gen1)
ruger.com/products/precisionR...
Ruger® built the Ruger Precision® Gen 3 from the ground-up, specifically for long-range, tactical shooting. The Gen 3 Precision Rifle comes with a new, free-float M-LOK® handguard that provides greater clearance with large diameter objective lens. The Gen 3 also comes with a muzzle brake, featuring a hybrid port design that reduces recoil by up to 40-60%, and reduces muzzle blast, directing it to each side of the shooter's line of sight. A billet-aluminum bolt shroud also enhances the Gen 3 rifle. The upper receiver and one-piece bolt are precision CNC-machined from pre-hardened 4140 chrome-moly steel to minimize distortion; and a 20-MOA Picatinny rail is secured to the receiver with 4 #8-40 screws. The bolt has 3 lock lugs, resulting in superior strength and a 70º throw. The Precision MSR buttstock attaches to an AR-style buffer tube on a left-folding hinge, and the stock adjusts for length of pull and comb height. The buttstock features QD sling attachment points, a bottom Picatinny rail, and rubber butt pad. The buffer tube accepts any AR-style stock. An extended trigger-reach, AR-style grip, and a 45º reversible safety selector provide ease of operation, and the rifle is compatible with any AR-style grip or selector. The cold hammer-forged 4140 chrome-moly steel,

I love my Savage's. Easy to do any work on if you have any mechanical ability, great factory triggers, and super accurate barrels. Plus it's so easy to do a barrel swap, I could do it in my sleep.

I have a Savage Axis Precision in 6.5 CM. Bottom of the line in a chassis rifle but with my handloads I'll put it up against any of the higher priced rifles. One hole groups at 100 yards and excellent accuracy on steel out to 1160 yards. That's the farthest we can shoot on our land. I'm not knocking the higher priced guns, just saying the cheaper ones can do well too.
@chrisgullett4332
@chrisgullett4332 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, but usually with new guns the higher price gets you better made guns. Usually a better finish, stronger materials, more material etc. You will usually get things like thicker barrels, longer barrels, materials like stainless steel, and stainless steel cost around 4 times more than carbon steel. Stainless is usually used in precision barrels because it does not react to temperature changes like carbon steel. Not that cheaper guns are not good, but when it comes to guns, expensive guns are usually made better. Most people just see two guns and wonder why two guns that seem to be similar have totally different prices, and it is all in how the parts were made. It is kinda like comparing a Mossberg 88, 500 and 590, cause though all are cheap, the price varies as you go from the 88 to the 500 to the 590, and it is because the 500 has better made parts than the 88, and the 590 has better made parts than the 500. For example, they all use the same receiver, but the 88 and 500 use plastic parts and the 590 uses all metal parts. Like the trigger assembly which is made of plastic on the 88 and 500, but made of aluminum on the 590. Things like that are the reason for price differences in new guns. The cheaper guns are great, but the more expensive guns are greater simply because they are made better with better parts. I have bough a lot of cheap new guns, and most are fine, but some are not, but I have never had any problem with an expensive gun. I prefer cheap guns though, and for several reasons. One reason is I am poor, another reason is I do not like using something a lot that I paid lots of money for, another reason is some of the parts seem to be over doing it, like huge barrels for little gain in accuracy etc. I will stick with cheap guns, but still be aware of the fact that expensive new guns are better made. There are also times when the better parts do not justify the higher price. You see this mostly with AR15 rifles. You will see a $600 AR and a $2000 AR, and the only difference is a stainless barrel and stainless parts kit in the more expensive one, which is not worthy of the high price. Sure stainless barrels are the best barrels you can get for and AR, but their is not enough raw Stainless steel material to warrant the high price. AR15 rifles are the worst when it comes to high prices, cause the high price is basically only attributed to a better barrel and parts kit. I would never pay more that $850 for an AR15, but I have seen 5 thousand dollar AR rifles, and they are a ripoff. Companies that sell AR15 rifles are the worst. One of the best examples is that Delton sells an AR10 called the DT10, and Springfield sells their AR10 called the Saint. Both companies use the same exact machine shop for their receivers, and they are identical. PSA also uses the same machine shop, and their Gen 1 PA10 was identical to the Springfield Saint and the DT10. Well the Springfield is double the price. Built on the exact same receivers and cost double. It is the same with Tactical Machine, cause Matrix Arms and Fedarm both use identical Tactical Machine receivers, but the Fedarm AR10 is around $650, and the Matrix Arms is about a thousand dollars more. So with AR style rifles the price is not always worth it, but with other guns it usually is.

I’m going to get the savage axis 2 precision 6.5 CM, if you can one hole at 100 and on still at almost 1200 yards, I completely agree with you, why get the latest and greatest when there is only a very small difference. 100 yard 1 hole is more than enough for me if I can have a 3 inch pattern at 500 I’ll be excited

I bought a Gen 2 RPR in 6cm when they were Clerancing them out to move to Gen 3s. I got it for $750 out the door so I thought “I’ll try it and if it don’t shoot well I’ll be able to sell it and get my money back”. It shot pretty decent with Hornady 105 Bthp and 108 eld m. Then I tried 107smk and oh my gosh, it shoots amazing. Since I found my load I have not shot another projectile out of it. Everything was on sale at that time frame. I was able to put a Magpul PRS and Timney two stage In it and have $1068 in it. You mentioned the action on the RPR. They definitely cleaned up the action some on the gen 3s I have noticed. The nitrided bolt and a little cleaner machining definitely helped. It’s still not Tikka smooth by no means. I have owned many different heavy barrel Savage rifles over the years. They don’t have the nicest actions. Many models don’t have great features. With that said I have never had one that didn’t shoot to my expectations. I can not say the same thing for some brands. Right now I have a model 10 in an XLR chassis in 6.5cm as well as a model 12 in 223 and a 110 tactical 308. All are amazing shooters. Also have owned 12 LRP, a few 12 FVs, 10 T-SR, 10 FCP-SR. All shot amazing. I have come to respect their barrels and free floating bolt head. I love being able to put on my own barrels and headspace them.

Great video, a huge, in fact massive boot-ton of good thought & detail gone into the review & seamlessly presented. Target Tool Precision Products makes a beautiful Mag Release that installs with one screw and can be accessed easily with the trigger finger. They also make a replacement rear stock, but good luck finding one. Also, installing a steel bolt shroud and polishing the bolt does wonders for the RPR's smoothness. Adding an XLR stock is also a worthwhile upgrade. Last, but far from least, the Timney two-stage trigger, which can be set as low as 8 oz./ 8 oz. takes the RPR to a new level.

If you have a Gen1, RPR and still have the polymer bolt shroud, Ruger may be willing to send you a new shroud for free. It is worth contacting them. Just a note. When the RPR first came out folks were ditching the factory stock, for ones designed for AR rifles, and a ton of folks were ditching the forend, and barrels to rebarrel them. I picked up a bunch of spare barrels for my RPR, and put the RPR adjustable stocks on two of my ARs so I can adjust them when teaching different grandkids to shoot.

I have always been partial to the Savage 110 action and the barrel nut system which makes setting the headspace a breeze compared to most of its competition. I'll be the first to admit that the Savage actions have a tendency to not feel as smooth as some of the other factory actions. Their floating bolt designs intentional play that bothers a lot of shooters. But it all comes together to deliver beautiful accuracy within a value, factory platform. And the Accutrigger is one of the best factory triggers for the price and I find them easy to modify (not that I recommend it because I don't)😁. Thank you for this review! I enjoyed this content!

I don’t think it’s luck. I think Savage has the accuracy thing figured out. I’ve owned several Savages. Everyone of them have been shooters. I can not say the same thing for some other brands. One being Bergara. I was sorely disappointed with accuracy on two Bergara rifles I owned. Both would get random fliers all the time.

Savage is known for their amazing triggers. Nowadays nearly all rifles from the factory are very accurate. In my opinion, the biggest x factor and variable to the rifle is the user attached to it. The point where the accurate rifle and human meet is the trigger. The trigger has to be good. A great trigger can make a decent shooter great and a great shooter elite. Savage is like the Canik of the rifle world. One of the best triggers out of the box period.

Good question, a tough one at that. Id take a chassis tikka if their barrels werent so slow. For example as i mentioned in the video my tikka upr at 900m was dialed 11 mils up while that savage was only 7mils. And to be honest a smooth action is nice and all but having to dial less increases hit probability. Im still not 100% bu i think id go with the savage. Even with its not smioth action and 90 degree bolt throw.its got a dam nice trigger

This bothers me, i wish i knew how to correct the issue. I love my 10T in .308, i get .5" 5 shot groups at 100yds with my handloads (178gr eld m), just not guarunteed to feed smoothly every time

I have a Savage 110 Precision in 300 PRC and 1000 meters is like 400 yards in my Howa 1500 .308 and 500 meters in my Mauser M18 in 30.06. Its an awesome shooter and I have constantly rung the bell at 1200 which is not even beginning to hit its limit. Savage and Hornady claim 2000 meters which is far above my capability. I love it a lot and it was the best $1500 I ever spent on a rifle. I did put a Steiner H6Xi 5-30x50mm scope on it because that is what I was recommended and its incredible. Yea its a $2800 dollar scope on a $1500 dollar rifle but it wasnt overkill the rifle is just that damn good and at this price range its hard to beat.

I have both chassis systems and while I agree with most of your observations, a few things to note. 1. Gen 3 RPR comes in M-lok not Keymod? 2. Mag release on RPR has 2 types of mags it can house. 3. RPR can have cant in the butt pad, and you can’t have that in the Savage cheap version of the stock pad adjustment. 4. Bolt face is 3 lugs on RPR, Savage 2 lugs? Savage went with a low-cost MDT LSS for their package on the chassis, while RPR has a much better all rounded chassis package. As for the action and barrel, I would pick chrome molly over carbon steel. Shooting with both chassis systems when not cheating out on the MDT stock/butt pad and having it foldable is a very similar experience, however the fully wrapped forend is better for handling and night vision devices. With the two displayed, the savage is compromised slightly on the chassis, and even with it being upgraded to be on par with the RPR, I would still find the RPR edging it over the Savage due to the Mag choices, bolt config, forend. And you need to sort out the flex, my Gen I RPR has no flex, no wobble, something is up with your RPR stock... Just some 0.02cents for yah 😃

I have a question. I just bought a Savage Axis II Precision rifle in 308 WIN and I am trying to figure out which scope to get, there are too many options. I am new to this but have a list of some scopes. I'd like some opinions which I should look into getting. I got the rifle for target shooting, don't plan on doing hunter or anything like that. 1) SH4 6-24X50 GEN2 FFP MOA VPR Illuminated Reticle with Zero Stop - 34mm Tube 2) DIAMONDBACK TACTICAL 6-24X50 FFP 3) Vortex Strike Eagle 5-25x56 4) US Optics TS-20X

I've got a Ruger American in 308 that'll do the same thing with winchester 180 gr. Power Points. Also have a Howa 1500 in 243 that doesn't care if it's a Remington 100 gr Core Lok or a winchester power point. Even my Howa 308 cerakote camouflage will poke out a single jagged hole at 100 yds with the Hornady 178 ELDX. I always let my barrels cool off for 10 minutes between shots to let them barrels retract. These newer guns have better barrels, and tighter chambers besides floated barrels. They can do just as well as my experience with the custom rifles made in Quantico for my beloved Marines, but the optics we use are the best in the world, Thanks to Schmidt and Bender. These optics are extremely expensive. SEMPER FI.

1. The foldable stock on the RPR is great for inserting into a smaller, lengthwise, hardcase for traveling from home to the range and return and for protection of your rifle. 2. You can add a Vertical - Tactical Adjustable Buttstock or V-TAB on the RPR, but not on the Savage. 3. Toe of the Ruger stock. The toe is Picatinny compatible so users can pop in a rail-based monopod like the one from Accu-Shot. Or if you prefer, you can attach an Apex Bag Rider for the rear stock of the Ruger Precision Rifle. Shooters can improve shooting position stability and make rapid elevation aiming adjustments. The Apex is wider than the bottom factory Picatinny rail, providing a better rest on bags, packs, or even the support hand to help remain steady while taking a shot. To help get on target the Apex Bag Rider’s angled shape allows for generous amount of rapid elevation adjustment. Simply slide your rear support bag fore or aft to raise or lower the butt stock. This lets the stock rest on the bag rather than relying on uneven applied grip pressure to maintain the desired shooting position. 4. Finally, which one has more featuresmore aftermarket items and is more affordable?
