“6.5 should have a 6.5 muzzle brake”. I don’t think you’d know the difference. I have argued this for years with people. Finally Ultimate Reloader did a full video showing that there is very little difference for muzzle brakes with over sized bores. They were very surprised. Great video. You should check it out.

Still a great pump gun even though it is mostly plastic, kzfaq.infoUgkxh4su9YgU1tWmjikirWcKJbjsFLEU62Bc but with care it will last a long time. It would be neat if Crosman would make a commemorative version of this with real wood stock, but of course it would weigh more and cost more, but hey, it would be cool. The included scope is more of a toy, but it does work for backyard plinking. I prefer to use pellets for greater accuracy, but BBs are just as good for plinking. This is not a Red Ryder folks; fully pumped it is 3 times the power of a Red Ryder and can be dangerous if not handled properly. Be safe out there.

You can get a Howa 1500 and an MDT Oryx for under $900. You can get a solid optic for $400. So for about $1,300 you're in the game and able to shoot accurately at long range. Or you can get a short action 1500 with the Hera H7 chassis for under $750.

Your comment on second hand arms is bang on. I bought my first GenII RPR for ~$1200 AUD when the Gen3 had just been released I put the savings into a better scope and reloading set and could not be happier. I own a few of the Tikka T3X and could not agree more on how butter silk the actions are, even without the coating on the bolt. Biggest down side is the magazines for them. My first upgrade to any is a replacement bottom metal to accept the AICS mags

I know mine has the HACT trigger. Maybe that’s the difference? 🤷‍♂️ I prefer that trigger over the Tikka. And having shot the savage 110 tactical, I much prefer the Howa 2 stage over the accutrigger. If you wanna talk triggers…both my CVA cascades at $600 have a much better trigger than my $1200 Tikka. I’m happy with the Tikka, but trigger wise, the cascades beet the Tikka.

Nice one mate, I'm building a very similar setup. Started off as a Tikka roughtec lite in 223, MDT elite muzzle brake (can't recommend that enough) Leopold mark 5HD optic. Lightened trigger spring. MDT ckye pod bipod. Just waiting on my MDT HNT26 stock to complete the build. First custom load tests produced amazing groups shooting prone. Smallest group was less than a 1/4MOA at 100m. Largest was a 1/2MOA. It's a great calibre I reckon. Can't wait to try my hand at some competition shooting. Good luck with yours!

I have two of the rifles you reviewed. A Savage Axis II Precision in 6.5 Creedmore and a Bergara B14 HMR in 308. The Bergara shoots as good as my five thousand dollar ground-up custom-built rifle. I get consistent 0.3-inch groups with Sierra Palma Match 155s and Barnes 130-grain TTSXs. It doe I did replace the trigger with a Trigger Tech because the factory trigger was a little creepy. The Savage shoots great, and the first load I came up with using 140-grain ELDMs shoots just about 0.7-inch groups. I found the trigger very nice and have no plans to change it out. I disagree with buying used rifles because you never know why they were sold. I know I personally sell any rifle I can't get to shoot to my standards with a reasonable effort. I know others do the same. It's always somewhat of a roll of the dice with a mass-produced off-the-shelf rifle as far as accuracy goes. Sometimes you get lucky sometimes you don't.

Not trying to start an argument here, but if you own custom long range rifles, why did you buy the 110? Was it in a different, cheaper caliber? I'm fairly new to LRPS and looking at different platforms/brands, so I'm curious why you'd go backwards in budget.

I have one as well in 308 and I got the long barrel version (24" instead of 20"). I wanted a "sniper rifle" to add to my collection but didn't wanna spend a lot of money. Researched it and it's all the reasons stated in the video. I don't have to bed it. I can adjust comb and LOP and don't need to get another stock. It already has 20 MOA rail. It's already threaded. It has a trigger that doesn't need to be upgraded. It's basically already ready to go package. Extremely economical. And it's definitely sub-MOA. Not sub-0.5 MOA but it's plenty accurate for all but competition shooting. I don't like the grip angle and bottom of the stock. I wish the bottom was flat instead of angled. The sling point digs into my hand when I support the stock.

My Savage 110BA in 338 LM was bought for $1900 at a time where the big name stores were charging $2100-$2400 .It was from the original pre-order that forced stores to buy at least 1unit of all 3 calibers it came in , nobody local to this small rural shop wanted to spend the cost of ammo for 338lm so this rifle was discounted to clear so their money wasn't tied up sitting on the wall for eternity The longer 26 " with the 1in 9 twist that only came in this caliber barrel makes this a tack hammer at conventional ranges and has been 1200m regularly using Kool aid filled water bottles . The brass clearing issue is easily remedied by any competent gunsmith for minimal charge and in my case only the Hornaday brass was sticky , the cheapo S&B and the Remington rounds that I tried had zero issues other than the S&B being kinda dirty and requiring a quick cleaning after every 10 or 15 rounds .

Chambering can make a significant difference in accuracy. The new 6.5 creedmoor and all the PRC cartridges are specified with tighter chamber tolerances compared to the old 7mm rem mag for example. You are basically getting a match grade chamber. On average the 6.5 creedmoor will be more accurate in factory rifles using factory ammo.

Tighter chambers in regard to SAAMI spec AND ALL THINGS BEING EQUAL, will shoot SAAMI spec FACTORY ammo more consistently as long as the factory ammo isn’t too long while still meeting the spec tolerance window. The reamers for the 6.5 C are not all the same either. Early on there were variances and those variant reamers are still floating around. The new Hornady offerings ( 6.5C, 6.5 PRC, etc) do not have a tighter SAAMI tolerance. SAAMI tolerance is the same as any other chambering. Go to SAAMI website and look it up yourself. Custom, tighter chambers with turned necks and etc can, may, might, offer better consistency when going after lower velocity S.D.’s, ALL THINGS BEING EQUAL, but that ain’t the holy grail in precision. The holy grail starts with an amazing barrel and a balance of everything else as required. Yes, I meant to repeat myself.

I haven't shot my Bergara HMR a lot, but now that I got a good scope for it [Vortex Strike Eagle 5-25/56] for Christmas, there will be no stopping me [except for ammo prices, maybe]. One reason to prefer the Bergara is it's use of AICS magzines. I have several that I use in my Ruger Scout. It may not be a prime consideration in terms of accuracy or overall quality, but it's a consideration none the less.

@@michaelhill6451 Saying one brand is more accurate than another is simply not true, also if you're going to shoot in matches AICS mags are the way to go, they are relatively cheap, available, and several companies make them. Rifle companies that make proprietary mags in Precision rifles are just trying to screw you. If I toss one of my mags on a station and then crush it I'm not that upset LOL. Also posting group sizes is ridiculous, EVERY gun shoots a .3218756" group once in a while......

It has a medium heavy hammer forged barrel that seems to shoot everything really well that I load it with. Not fussy about bullets or jump. Not fussy about a dirty barrel either. It’s too heavy to carry around for hunting but the weight is really nice to have at the range. It also comes in .308.

I owned a regular Savage 110 in .243 when it first was released. I very much regret selling it a few years later. I put a thumbhole stock that I customized on it with pillar bedding. I could shoot a group at 200 yards that would touch or fall into a quarter. Magnificent firearm. (sigh) A man does what he must in hard times. My plan was to shoot competitively. One was a dead stock Remington 40XB-BR in 222 REM the othe was a real benchrest rifle assembled by a notable gunsmith on a Wichita 1375 in 22PPC. those two woul make single hole five shot groups. Other great rifles I had was a Rem 721 in 300 H&H that would make a group at 200 yards that could be covered with a quarter. Another notable gun was a stock FN Mauser made for Venezuelan 1954 PanAm games with open sights it would make MOA groups off a rest. 😂 I own a bergara b-14 and the actions are butter. The issues is this guy has absolutely terrible form 😂. I actually laughed my entire way through his video personally. But to each their own. Putting a savage axis on this list was the first thing that got me dying. They are so inconsistent on build quality you don’t put them anywhere near precision. The bergara b-14 and the tikka t3x is where performance out of the box starts. Browning x bolts perform well with a $10 spring for the trigger to upgrade it. Bergara are a built up Remingtons 700 basically. They perform better out of the box but you can built 700’s to be honestly some if not the best rifles. Their is a reason they are a common sniper in the military with a couple parts thrown at them. Anything precision is going to have a heavy barrel on it. Light barrels are for hunting and mobility and low shot quantities. That’s why they suck after 3 shots. So much misinformation in this 😂. But he’s a Canadian so I wouldn’t expect much.

Having probably never fired anything more than whatever worn out bolt gun his cousin used to deer hunt with. You’re talking shit about the man’s form but we can’t see how your groups look. It’s ignorant, xenophobic, nonsensical comments like that that contribute to the stereotype that gun guys are just stupid, hypermasculine idiots with a Napoleon complex. The same stereotype that’s currently being used to slowly but surely whittle away at our constitutional rights with the ultimate end-goal being an outright ban and confiscation of pretty much anything outside of a pump shotgun or a .22LR bolt gun. Extremely informative and well-presented comparison. Honestly, I never even considered the Savage 110 Tactical until watching this video. I had been focusing in on the Bergara B14 HMR. Now I'm not sure if it's worth spending the extra $400-ish on the Bergara for rifle that will be used strictly at the range and probably not for competition. Or to put it differently, the Savage is 2/3's the price of the Bergara. The bolt throw angle difference has me considering scope clearance, preferring the 70-degree of the Savage. But the Bergara's stock features are far superior to the Savage's. Thoughts?
