IMHO, most of the negative reviews I've seen on the Integra are based on a faulty premise: that Acura intended to create a head-on competitor to the Audi RS3 or CLA 45. In reality the Integra is what it has always been: a value play for customers wanting something a little nicer that's fun to drive. Aka, the "Luxury Honda". With a low MSRP, tons of standard equipment and liely low maintenance and repair costs, the Integra is as true to the name as ever. But that means that it's not competitive with mid-level trims of the Germans because its mission is different. Don't like it? Don't buy it. LOL

As an Integra owner, I think your review was spot on (see how I avoided the obvious "Accur-ite" pun there!). I appreciate your detailed comparison to the competition. So many other reviews focus on whether or not this is worth the money over the Si, which is not very compelling (and a moot argument given that Si's are scarce and subjected to mark-ups by some dealers). I moved from a 2019 Accord with a 6-spd manual which was a great car but harder to park, lacked a sunroof, liftback design and heated seats, and didn't have the fun factor of a few more ponies and an LSD. I love most everything about the Integra, except Android Auto is completely unreliable via wireless and often unreliable even when wired, the rear defroster takes forever to work, the rear window needs a wiper, and the placement of the back-up camera makes it prone to getting covered in water and is essentially useless in the rain. But those are minor concerns, IMO. Thanks again for a great review - Dave

Why would you not compare it against a Mazda3 Turbo? I feel sad for that car. Reviewers don't compare it against GTI, WRX, Elantra N, etc. saying that it's not as hardcore and it's more of an entry level luxury car competitor. Now when it comes to reviews of cars like Integra, it's again not mentioned at all (which is beyond my understanding). It's a closer match to this car than all the other German competitors you mentioned.

Agree 100%…in fact, I’m picking up my Mazda 3 turbo tomorrow after having rented both the Mazda and an Integra A-Spec on Turo for a day to get a really good feel for each. I thought the Mazda 3 would struggle against the Integra, but it has so much more power and the interior is much nicer and quieter. No, the Mazda isn’t perfect. It has a smoother ride over smaller bumps but I think a bit harsher over the bigger stuff, possibly due to the twist beam rear suspension, but the engine felt much smoother & the 3 has much less road noise. I think handles about as well as the Integra does too. What really killed the Integra for me was the inferior interior materials, the road noise (I disagree with Alex's D rating though, I’d give it a C+ to the 3's A-), and most especially, the CVT, which dulls off the line performance and creates some engine drone, even with the stepped CVT 'shifts'. If only Acura hadn’t cheapened out on the sound deadening and materials and had used the ILX’s 8-speed DCT, it would have had a chance.
@markmiller3279

I agree that the Mazda is one of the few natural competitors and has some advantages. It also has a few weaknesses. Its safety tech is subpar, and its infotainment system is very poor. In general the Acura has more gadgets than the Mazda. The other big disadvantage is gas mileage, where the Acura's advantage is huge.

@@markmiller3279 Ofcourse each car has its pros and cons. The point here is to atleast do a fair comparison. As for the safety tech and the infotainment in Mazda is concerned, I personally love it. It's super intuitive while driving, once you get used to it. There is a learning curve there.

Maintenance costs and reliability are huge factors for me when choosing a car which is why I only buy Honda or Toyota (or Acura and Lexus) products. I went with the Integra with the manual and love it. It looks better in real life. The stock tires are trash and I'll be going with some QuietTraks when it comes time for new sneakers for the car. Otherwise, the engine has more than enough power. My only complaint is second gear being so darn short.

I picked up my Integra around the end of June, so I’m one of the few lucky drivers to get my hands on one early. Honestly it’s been great so far. I don’t have any sentimental attachment to the Integra of old and I got over my prejudice from the November reveal. As a daily driver, the new Integra is fantastic; practical, a solid 6MT, and 200 HP is enough for everyday driving. My only gripes are that the suede seats aren’t as comfortable as I’d like, the rear headroom is subpar, and there aren’t any rear air vents. My car also came with a defective rear passenger seatbelt and it’s hasn’t been easy to replace. I’m also starting to notice that my local Acura dealership is having a hard time selling Integras. All the enthusiasts already picked up their 6MT Integras. Now the only Integras flying off the lots are the CVT ones, but Acura can’t build enough CVTs to match demand. The 6MT Integras are currently rusting on the lots.

Might have something to do with the 6MT also costing a lot.
@deltahorizon26

@@afcgeo882 It’s not just that. Even the top trim CVTs are selling more frequently than the 6MT. A changing of the times. People aren’t interested in a manual for a non-performance car. I needed engagement in my daily commute so I’m okay with this.
@afcgeo882
@afcgeo882 Жыл бұрын
@@deltahorizon26 The automatic transmissions will ALWAYS sell better than manuals. This just isn’t the type of a car a WRX is. You’ll likely see a different story in the Type-S. The Integra isn’t a performance car. It’s a luxury compact. Manuals in non-performance cars were only attractive while they offered better fuel economy. Most people would much rather get an automatic if it will give them the same or better fuel economy. They’re easier to drive and are more comfortable. Now… if you had a base Integra 6-speed sell for $29,900, you’d see those fly off the lot.
@deltahorizon26
@deltahorizon26 Жыл бұрын
@@afcgeo882 Not going to argue with that. Nobody here in SoCal wants to drive a manual in soul crushing traffic. Technically, the Civic Si would be the base model Integra. But Honda is reportedly having production issues with the Civic Si right now. I’m also guessing the Integra having higher profit margins is the reason why Honda isn’t allocating more resources to making more Civic Si models.

@@deltahorizon26 I would agree on the Si, but I need a hatch and that LSD is clutch in NYC winter driving. I’ve driven manuals in NYC for years, but at 45 no longer miss it. I’m actually looking forward to the Civic hybrid, hoping it gets the same exact engine that’s in the CRV.

As always, I appreciate your detailed review. We got an A-Spec CVT and love it. Yes, we wanted the CVT for it’s better MPG and didn’t want to row the gears since it is a daily driver in stop and go traffic. We compared it tot he Audi A3 we had a couple of years ago and the GTI (MK8) we got rid of a few months after we bought it. The Audi was too softly sprung (Quattro without the sport suspension) and wasn’t really any nicer than the Integra. The GTI (Autobahn Edition) was quieter and quicker but it didn’t have as much interior room as the Integra and didn’t ride any better. The Integra is the better handler (IMHO). The GTI lost something in the handling department with its redesign. It just did not inspire confidence in the corners the way the Integra does. When comparing equipment levels inside, the Integra matches everything the other two had but kills them both in the audio quality. The Audi was good, the GTI was horrible and the Integra’s stereo is one of the best I have ever had!

Exactly. It's the nostalgic nannies who keep crying for an unrealistic expectation of a coupe in the U.S. and Canada when the coupe died for Acura in 2006 after the RSX and the coupe died for Honda in 2020 after the 10th gen Civic Si coupe died. Versatility and practicality of sedans, hatchbacks, and sportbacks/liftbacks is what makes them (Honda and Acura) money. The 1st gen Integra wasn't just a 3-door liftback coupe. It was also a 5-door sedan-esque liftback. I don't get why the self-proclaimed Integra diehards who are just complaining crybabies are so in denial of the new Integra following the old Integra's formula. All they're going to say is it used the JDM engines from Honda in Japan and it was designed differently. That's all they can say.

I bought one just before New Year's - manual, of course. I agree 100% with your assessment. I think you should have mentioned the Tech Package since those options you mentioned only come with that. Also, it needs to be added that the Acura should hold its resale value better than the comps. Of course, now it is 2024 and we know the Acura Type S with a 2.0 litre engine is available but I could not justify the markups and 60K+ out the door price when VW GTIs can be had for less money. I also don't like the over-the-top looks of the tripe exhaust in the middle of 2024 Type S.

Compared to a Civic Sport Touring this looks like a really nice upgrade. BUT! How could they forget to even offer Homelink on the rear-view mirror? I love that it comes with the Si powertrain and a manual. Also, 0-60 doesn't matter too much, it's not a drag racer. They geared it so there's a 3rd shift before 60 which kills the time score. Also also, I find it amazing that a premium car with supposedly more sound deadening material would score worse on the decibel meter than the standard vehicle on which it's based. You noted the Civic Sport Touring hatch scored 73 decibels but this gets 74? Totally bizarre.

Ok, let's get the positives out of the way. The exterior looks are fine and the interior is well sorted. The touch screen tablet is much more convenient then what we see in the other Acura models. Adaptive suspension is great and having the manual option is nice. It is based on the new civic, which is a great vehicle. Now the negatives. As a past csx owner and a current ilx owner, I am not fond of the cvt option. Having driven the new integra, it does not have the same fun factor as the DCT in the Ilx. Now people will say the gas mileage is better with the cvt and offers a smoother experience. I agree, but again, not as fun. The ilx has a 2.4l naturally aspirated engine that offers 201 hp and 180 ft lbs of torque. V tec kicks in around 4500 rpm, which offers a fun experience. Due to the quick shifts and linear power band that red lines at 6900rpms, 0 to 60 is accomplished in 6.6 seconds. While Alex is saying 6.8 for the Integra, 7.4 has been the norm. Additionally, only offering the manual on the top trim is frustrating.

Honda/Acura makes decisions and changes at the speed of a glacier, and they think with the balance sheet in mind, not the driving experience. Case in point. The 2007 MDX had a manual tilt rear-rear view mirror to abate hi-beams hitting your eyes instead of an automatic one. The reason? It made economic sense, kept costs down, and people didn't really mind having to use elbow grease. They didn't include a power liftgate until 2009! That's why the public is always disappointed with their new arrivals initially. This could also be why they are a rock-solid company. Definitely more evolutionary than revolutionary.

How much would your handling and ride ratings change if you were to rate the CVT? I know it's been a while since you drove that version but it would be interesting to hear how they compare. I'm planning on picking up the CVT version soon since a manual isn't an option for me unfortunately. Also, I wonder how this would compare to the Mazda 3. Even though you gave it a D for cabin noise, would you say it's better than the civic/similar cars?

Personally i would still choose the manual the car feels more alive with it, but the automatic isnt as bad as i thought it was. And for interior noise, it isnt bad either. Fairly quiet even at 85 mph. Car is worth it if you can find it for msrp, not worth paying anything more than that

However It is fantastic to hear you say its excellent, that its been made in India not German who is known to be more sporty. A lot of the early 10th gen civics had that issue, but it seems to have been all but fixed. Not to mention there's countless 1.5 turbo civics out there with high mileage already and doing just fine. That's exactly all I say too. When were older generation Integras and RSXs not gussied up Civics as well. It's just the nostalgic nannies crying that they're not getting a coupe anymore. They brag about being Integra diehards, but surely don't know that the 1st gen Integra started out as a 5-door liftback alongside the 3-door coupe and 2nd gen and 3rd gen Integras offered a 4-door sedan alongside the 5-door liftback and 3-door coupe. The nincompoop nostalgic nannies set their bar too high and their unrealistic expectations failed them. They got too caught up in the DC2 coupe and DC5 coupe-only body style and thought that's what Acura was going to bring for the bare minimum 5% of buyers when Acura's trying to get themselves out of the red from the poor sales of the NSX.

Also I think for the 30k mark, I would prefer a GTI over the Integra. 200HP/191TQ, you are going to feel that once you try to pass someone or pull out in traffic - not something I thought of until I had a low HP vehicle. Meanwhile the GTI is 243hp/273tq and its 2023 base vs the Integra base was 800 bucks cheaper with a CVT (36k+ for manual option). I think Acura is really upselling their stuff atm and thats why I am able to find them everywhere. Also Type S 52k start, stunning car but what the hell Acura.

The new Integra is an improvement over the old Integra; except, in people's minds. Acura needs an entry level sedan and CUV to get more folks into the brand to upgrade later to the RDX, TLX, and MDX. The Integra is a good compromise to provides a lot of flexibility for a sedan look with CUV utility for a entry level Acura. Acura just needs to add an Advance model w/ or w/o hybrid tech Integra down the road (360 degree camera, ventilated seats, rear vents, 6-way passenger seat, heated rear seats, etc...).
