Hey Richard, I just used your video as a guide to pull the turbo out of my 01 Jetta ALH. Your tutorial was excellent. I was lucky; the oil feed line came right off without twisting. Thanks for your excellent how-to video.

I had to cut a 17mm wrench in half and shave the sides of the open end down to fit on the bottom nut of the oil feed line.

Been putting this job off for two years, finally got it done thanks to your video. Oil supply line was a bear, broke my first shaved down wrench on the bottom fitting. Second wrench I used a thicker 17mm wrench instead of the narrow 11/16 that I broke. Using a 17mm flare wrench on the line is the only way to go, I don’t think I could have gotten it done if I tried to use an open ended wrench.

I took it out from the top super easy. I just removed the top manifold as well. 8 bolts. 3 hoses. way easier than taking off the driveshaft. The wrech idea worked great for the turbo line.

Interesting. I have EGR cooler deleted with much more room behind the engine vs stock an no lift so I may try this depending on how I feel at the time. Turbo swap this week.

Hi Richard, I have a 1998 VW beetle 1.9 alh. I am leaning toward a bad turbo. No chk engine lights, Heavy smoke under load. No real smoke at idle. I pulled hose off right before intercooler and there was a 1/4 cup of oil. 110 K on car. Changed MAF, and coolant temp sensor.

The EGR pipe bolts are unrecognizable in my case, at over 400k km. The down pipe is more awkward to access but at least the bolts have their shape. I gave it some heavy liquid wrench after striking out last night. Seeing this however has me thinking I should bring it to a friends where they have a lift and an acetylene torch.

I'm getting an Under boost code just like this car did, good thing I have a different vehicle I can drive to work while I get this one sorted out. i think i watched more than 30 of your videos so far. Thank You! i'm a month new to TDIs and am curious. if i may ask. would you know if a ALH is more reliable than the PDs? its for a conversion im doing on a T25.
@CoolAirVw
@CoolAirVw Жыл бұрын
Sure I would say ALH is more reliable, but PD's are still good. Since PD's don't have a injection pump they fit easier in a conversion engine bay. They also are a bit beefier.

Nightmare job, good video. Have a reconditioned Turbo sitting at home - garage wouldn't fit it because it wasn't supplied by them - not covered by their insurance. Leaking turbo oil collects in boost pipe - can be sucked into intake, I have drain screw fitted.

Dunno exactly which one you're talking about, but it's either the EGR cooler itself (the one that stayed bolted to the head) or the EGR cooler pipe (the one he removed).
