Of the "Big Four" of Seattle Grunge, Alice in Chains was the most heavy metal. Soundgarden was kind of bluesy in their own way. Pearl Jam was more 60s/70s rock influence. And of course Nirvana was very punk inspired. Each had their own sound and flavor, even being part of the same "scene".

Kurt Cobain was my favorite sardonic poet of his era, but AIC were the best raw rock band of the period, and Layne was the ONLY vocalist who could give Chris Cornell a run for the money on vocal chops. Layne had such a gutteral, emotional to your core vocal delivery that still stuns over lowfi video. Crazy talent. Sean Kinney underrated drummer. He had such a great swing and groove to everything he did. Sorry, I don't put PJ in the running with the other three Seattle greats. STP, Pumpkins, Collective Soul were the other greats of grunge NOT from Seattle. Pixies and NIN and RHCP preceded grunge. Just lay down a straight gritty minor riff in the verse, and then some power chords for a chorus, and have one of the best singers in rock history to make a counterpoint screamed melody work. Layne loves to imitate a wah guitar. Hilarious. I'll never forgive him for throwing his talent away, though. Then again, opiates took Cornell also. I'm pretty sure Cobain was offed. Still, stay away from opiates and their ilk. One would think the 90s impressed that message on people. Now we're going through an opiates epidemic that makes that era look like amateur hour. WTF is wrong with people. Life sucks, yeah, it really sucks on opiates. Just make it quick and walk into the ocean instead. You'll realize the water is cold and the planet beautiful.

I wish Demri didn't died, i think her death marked Layne's destiny, we can all learn from his strenght.. Battling with his own demons, depression and addiction and on top of that the love of his live died so young... He was alive for almost 7 years after she passed away and never stopped being creative. I cry for them and Mike Starr too, and Shannon Hoon, kurt, jim morrison... And for all who passed away at a young age. I can only put my shit together and, with their art supporting my life, be brave and stand strong... I just miss Layne so much, i started to listen to aic, mad season and the other things layne did (for example the funky tunes and the song with heart) at the beggining of this year when i was going through my last schizoid episode and thanks to that i could keep myself alive for more time just because i wanted to enjoy their messages and music, music literally has saved my life two times at least.
