The fact Layne Staley didn't make Rolling Stone's Top 200 singers of all time is an absolute travesty. Meanwhile, Kurt Cobain is #8 on that list. An all time joke.

Rolling Stone Magazine black listed Laynes image and AIC reputation .Putting his photo on the front cover one year, taking only about the drugs and not asking or wanting to know about the bands 🎶 music. Layne had supposedly called Rolling Stone Magazine up and told them to go F%#k themselves. Lol, and that ended the relationship between them permanently.

@Dave S I hear you. It's very obvious to me he was the best vocalist in that grunge era. So underrated. It makes it so much more tragic his loss. I wish that heroine addiction never got hold of him. As you said, he was still amazing when he was in really bad shape. AIC would have been on another level and Layne would have gotten the acclaim he deserved. Rain when I die, Bleed the freak, Rooster, Down in a hole, Love hate love...the notes he was hitting...Noone could replace him and outdo him. We were robbed of that Staley-Cantrell powerhouse quality combo. RIP once again to him🙏

Jerry’s song writing matched with Layne’s innate ability to story tell with his voice and make someone feel every emotion he was singing I swear a match made in heaven was formed with them. It’s such a sad shame that this masterclass of a bad didn’t get to keep one of its main components. Not saying that black gives way to blue isn’t good but man just those times in the beginning. When they made sap. When they made dirt. Love hate love. One of my favorite Layne live performances. Mixed with the bands beautiful melodies I swear just rip to such a legend. Such a rock god legend. I swear to god every time I watch a live perfomance from these guys, it's like a religious experience. I can't imagine how awesome it was being there irl instead of just watching online 30 years later. I'm jealous of anyone who ever got to see them in the 90s lmao.

I love how demonic and dark the music sounds cuz that's exactly what drugs are. A dark demonic tunnel you lead yourself down till there's no light at the end and you have no idea how to get back.

Only two people could sing like that, with voice so smooth and velvet but the same time like having swallowed a thousand razor blades. 1) Layne Staley & 2) Chester Bennington. RIP both of you. Thanks for your perfomances.

The one time that I got to see these guys live, Festival Hall 1993 Melbourne Australia (with Suicidal Tendencies) and I was too fucked up to really appreciate where I was and what was going on, god damn it. Sure am glad there's recordings like this around, making me feel alive, and I'm still here to enjoy them. Love what AIC have given 💖

I don't think there has ever been or will be a better singer than Layne. Just unbelievable I was born in 95 but I grew up with the good music thankfully and I keep with it. The music in my school days and since has been hard to deal with especially this new rap and pop even the new rock isn't music. It's ridiculous because there is so much real talent that can't get any recognition they are in small area bars and doing shows. Like my boyfriend.
