12:30 The warning was from the species (so-called "space jockey") that presumably built the alien ship and not the acid bood alien. The fossilized space jockey (pilot) was a victim with its ribs bent out from the parasite/baby alien bursting out.

One of the best Sci-fi Horror Thriller Films ever made! Believe it or not, Dan O'Bannon, H.R. Giger, Chris Foss, and Jean "Moebius" Giraud, were hired by Ridley Scott after Alejandro Jodorowsky's DUNE adaptation was cancelled in 1976.

"It's got a great defense mechanism. You don't dare kill it." Classic sci-fi horror. The tension is so thick, you will need a sharp steak knife in order to cut it. The voice of "Mother" is so iconic, in my honest opinion. There's something unnerving about a cold feminine voice counting down to your death. It wasn't until GLaDOS that we rediscovered that a computerized female voice can be absolutely creepy. Fun Fact: In H.R. Giger's original illustrations that inspired the look of the Alien, the creature had eyes. For the movie, Giger insisted that the creature have no eyes, thus giving the bleak appearance of a cold and emotionless beast that hunts by smell. Real Guts Fact: The dead facehugger that Ash (Ian Holm) autopsies was made using fresh shellfish, four oysters, and a sheep kidney to re-create the internal organs. Filming had to be done quickly because the organic material would go bad very fast under the studio lights. Bloody Solution Fact: It was conceptual artist Ron Cobb who came up with the idea that the Alien should bleed acid. This came about when Dan O'Bannon ran into a wall with the screenplay on how to handle the last half of the movie. He needed a good reason for why the crew members don't just shoot the thing and kill it but still not make it an indestructible monster that can't be killed. The acid blood was the idea that solved this problem.

Alien is the best haunted house film made to date. The tension is nonstop until the end credits roll. Putting a haunted house in space was genius. Ghosts weren't taken as serious as they once were. At least not in America. We grew up with Casper and Scooby-Doo cartoons, the Abbott and Costello horror/comedies, and Don Knotts in The Ghost and Mr Chicken. But with a haunt with acid for blood and literally nowhere to run. Wow! Event Horizon also used this concept but in a different way. It's very hard nowadays to write a good haunted house story and avoid all the cliches that induce chuckles if not a belly laugh. Stephen King has done it twice with his miniseries Rose Red and The Shining (Kubrick 's version is very good, but I think the King scripted miniseries is better.). Thank you, lovely lady for another enjoyable reaction.

I love when younger generations latch onto classics. Your reactions were great, and they were exactly what I would expect of someone who saw "Aliens" before seeing "Alien." Great job! Notes: -There were no Adobe effects. This was largely filmed in 1978 or 1979, after all. Everything was a practical effect with the exception of Mother's interface. -Mother was not evil. Instead, it was bound by Special Order 937, which prevented it from answering Dallas' legitimate, but straightforward questions. Ripley questioned the computer differently, leading to her more informative outcome. -Ash was not only bound by #937, he/it was also a duplicitous SOB who only saw the others as lab rats. He/it opened the airlock not to let the crew back into the ship, but to get his/its hands on the alien. -The big alien was the same alien that burst out of Kane, the 2nd Officer. -The damage to the ship as it entered the atmosphere was due to the effect of hazardous weather conditions on ship that was designed to be a "tugboat in space", not an all-weather landing craft. Other damage was caused when a landing support was forced beyond its range of motion when the ship came down on uneven terrain. -There are several deleted scenes. Notably, there is a deleted scene that shows Parker, the chief mechanic, put up a strong, extended fight against the alien before eventually losing. The scene was cut because it showed that it was possible for a strong human to almost overpower the creature, which would have ruined the image of the alien as an unstoppable threat. There is another deleted scene that takes place during Ripley's escape from the ship. In it, you see that the missing crew weren't dead, but the alien had encased them in eggs and secretions that were transforming them into aliens and causing them unbearable agony. Dallas then begged Ripley to "unalive" them. Ripley, mercifully, tearfully, carried out the request with her flamethrower and ended their suffering.

The company didn't know about the Alien until the Nostromo picked up the signal, if they had they would've sent of team of actual trained people to collect and bring it back, there would be too many things that could go wrong otherwise, It's like putting a Wal-Mart cashier on a rocket and acting all shocked when the rocket crashes and blows up. The Nostromo was close so it was rerouted, the company wasn't expecting an 8 foot tall velocorapter thing or again, they would've sent a team of scientists and soldiers to get it. Remember, the Company still had no clue what this thing even was 57 years later in the next movie, you don't think they would've sent another ship there to collect the Alien in the 57 years in between the films?
@Otokichi786
@Otokichi786 2 ай бұрын
The "Nostromo" disappeared on the voyage back to Earth, so The Company possibly wrote it off as "caught/destroyed by an uncharted Black Hole/Asteroid field/Gamma Ray burst," etc. In the SE version of "Aliens," the two Hadley's Hope managers said that, 57 years later, it took two weeks to get an answer from HQ. Was the "Nostromo" in contact/transmitting to Earth back then? I'd guess that they were on their own out there.
@douglascampbell9809
@douglascampbell9809 2 ай бұрын
I beg to differ. The company absolutely knew something was there to find, most likely a creature. They sent a bunch of space truckers to investigate because they would be unprepared for the situation. The company set the travel route back to Earth that they traveled. Why else would they have changed the ship's crew DAYS before the launch back to Earth putting the android on board. Why else would Ash have modified programing to ALLOW him to harm the crew through inaction. That's why he broke quarantine. Ash's instructions where there from the beginning of the voyage. Radio only travels at the speed of light so there was no direct communication back to the company. The reason the company didn't know about the Nostromo and their attempt to procure the specimen is because the company scrubbed that info out of their records. (some bean counter trying to save his ass after the ship and refinery went missing)
@WarrenSmith1983
@WarrenSmith1983 Ай бұрын
They did know. They needed plausible deniability to get a specimen through quarantine, as without secrecy, the government wouldn't allow it through, and would confiscate it, possibly for their own projects. Ash had very specific orders: to investigate the signal source, gather the life form mentioned in the signal (the script mentioned that they'd already fully translated the warning to stay the hell away), and bring it back, with discretion, to the company labs. This stuff was "need to know", so only a handful within this interstellar conglomerate would know about it. Also only a few people at Ripley's inquest in Aliens were Weyland-Yutani, so feds and others present would've been as in-the-dark as the average person on the street.

I don't know if you watched the director cut, if you did not, there is a short scene when Ripley is running from the creature in the ship where she sees the crew members that have been abducted glued to the wall ready to be coocooned. The scene doesn't change much of the film but in the sequel (Aliens), there are several scenes cut which do add a lot of context so I strongly suggest you watch the Director's cut of Aliens. This is such a great movie, Ridley Scott really succeeded in creating an athmosphere of unease and dread throughout the film which makes it so riveting. The sequel directed by James Cameron is more action oriented than pure horror, but is fantastic too. The first two Alien movies are simply among the greatest Sci-fi flicks ever made and while the character of Ripley was at the begining supposed to be a guy, nor does she was meant to be the 'final girl', it just turned out that way and Scott and Cameron later on created one of the greatest cinematic heroin of all time and a true inspiration for women. For the chest burster scene, contrarily to rumour, the crew knew about it (they had to know) and even were shown the puppet of the creature that was suppoesed to come out of the fake chest of actor John Hurt. However, known only to Scott, Hurt and the technical crew, they filled the fake chest with fake blood and entrails and while the crew expected the creature to come out with minimal blood, during the moment Hurt is having seizures on the table, the pump broke and the first spurt of blood before he resumes his seizures was totally unexpected and you can see the shock on the faces of Yaphet Kotto and Sigorney Weaver. Then, when the creature 'came out' the were very large amounts of fake blood squirting everywhere with the majority of poor Veronica Cartwright with her shocked "Oh God" being genuine and her slipping on the blood and falling on her ass really happening. You can find here on youtube the uncut version of this scene and it's incredibly bloody. One of my favorite films of all time, i really like the washed down look of the ship and the characters that makes the crew so relatable like blue collars in space which is what they're supposed to be.

There's a novel (actually a collection of 4 stories) called Voyage of the Space Beagle by A. E. van Vogt, one of the early sc-fi greats. One of the stories, Discord in Scarlet, has a plot sort of similar to Alien and I think van Vogt sued them for it. Also, Voyage was an inspiration for the Star Trek the series. A. E. van Vogt may not be the best writer, but he influenced so much later sci-fi. His novel Slan is a precursor to the X-Men.

Per cat in the box I read today about a cat in Utah that crawled into an Amazon return box & the owner not knowing sealed it up & shipped it. The poor thing spent 5 days in the box before it was discovered in fairly good shape by an Amazon employee. The owners were putting out flyers in the neighborhood thinking it took off. A vet scanned its chip which immediately notified the owner it was in California. They didn't believe it at first & thought the chip malfunctioned. They flew to CA to get it.

Since the alien has acid blood its veins must be made of something that is incredibly strong yet also very light and flexible to allow the creature to move. If they discovered how to replicate that then they would have the strongest, most protective building material ever and it would net someone a fortune. It would be even more profitable than using the alien as a weapon.

The loose wiring and exposed tubing match the monster, creating a greater sense of dread, since it could be literally anywhere. Both design choices resulted in spaces that felt very real and distinct from other space films, creating a strong visual identity that is unique to Alien. Even today.. Sure it is way slower then modern movies, but thats a good thing. It takes time and Ellen Ripley is not already a badass female lead, she became one during the horror events of this movie. That's why this movie is so special. Also it has an aesthetic style, that no other Sci-Fi film had.

As I said before, i really hope you'll continue the franchise. Not a lot of reactors do, as they listen to the youtube gatekeepers that think because they disliked a film, its a bad film. But you'll find, as some other channels have, that doing 3 and 4 will get you new subscribers, new commentators and average or above views for your channel. It's a win, win to me! I would suggest watching the Assembly Cut of 3, it's the closest thing to both a workprint, and a directors cut that we have. Plus, the theatrical cut, misses out a ton of footage and is a bit disorienting....at one point the characters talk about something we only see in the Assembly Cut, for example. It's not without its faults, it's an incomplete film in some ways, due to a constant struggle between the studio and director, David Fincher. He now disowns it, but like it or not it's the start of that trademark visual style he has, if you thought Fight Club and Seven looked visually cool, then this is where that begins. Plus, Charles Dance and Brian Glover are magnificent in it! It's a return to a more first film setting than the second, much more horror than action. 4 will introduce you to the wonderful world of French director, Jean Pierre Jeunet. I think you'd enjoy many of his other films...Amelie, The City Of Lost Children etc. It has a slick, surreal, dreamlike look.....which provides a link back to 3.....Fincher would use the DP on 4, Darius Khondji, as DP on Seven. Jeunet calls Khondji, "The Prince Of Darkness", as he can make black look blacker than black( like Fuligin if you have ever read, Shadow Of The Torturer) and colours vibrant and super saturated. Theres a grim humour in 4 that some people don't like, but it's the same humour Jeunet injects into all his films, the supporting cast are pretty cool, particularly Ron Perlman, and we get the point of the android names...... One other thing that may interest you that passes a lot of people by is the running references to author Joseph Conrad that go right through the franchise. All ship names are references to elements of Conrad's novels. Nostromo is the name of one of his books, the lifeboat is called, Narcissus, it's part of the title to another. The Sulaco in Aliens...Sulaco is the town that is the basis of the events of the novel, Nostromo. Same thing with 3 and 4. Ridley Scott's first film was an adaptation of a Conrad book, I assume he included the names in Alien as he's a Conrad fan and the writers of the subsequent movies have kept that up. A couple of recommendations.. Outland, a scifi reimagining of High Noon, with Sean Connery in the Gary Cooper role of Space Marshall on a mining colony. Great supporting cast, solid effects and model wok. A classic. Westworld, early 70's scifi, with Yul Brynner as *the* most terrifying cowboy you will ever see. Written by the same guy that wrote Jurassic Park! Eerily prescient about AI and its power. Great film that spawned a not quite so good sequel, and the much more recent HBO series

(LOL) I've recently re-watched Your "Aliens" Reaction, which begins with You telling that Story; Remember..?😂Either way, I'm Happy to finally share this Horrific, Sci-Fi Classic with You🥰You might want to include a Link to the Sequel😉and if You've ever wanted to watch anymore of these (with or without Sigourney Weaver) then You'd have My Support too!👍

Alien: the first space rape. This whole film is just allegories around sex, and more particularly that of rape: the entrance to the ship in the shape of a vagina, the phallus-shaped machine where the fossilized skeleton is located, the facehugger and its oral insemination into Kane's body, the adult alien with its double retractable jaw, etc... And at the very end, Lambert's characteristic rape, which we do not see, but which we hear, and which we imagine. The work of artist and creator of the "bio-mechanical" Xenomorph, H.R. Giger, often revolves around sex in general. And Ridley Scott had picked up the idea. Several KZfaq videos also demonstrate all of this.

@32:12 _I guarantee you it came inside when they landed. When they landed there was this huge thud & the hull was breached. That huge alien was the mother._ They didn't land the ship but a shuttle & there was no mother alien. I'm terribly sorry sorry but you'd do better limiting what you say to what you know so far (vs. what you think you got an epiphany about). There is no penalty for taking 5 minute paying attention & thinking in silence so the next minute you'd make some sense.

@38:39 _He's not a person._ You already say something to that effect 4 times in 5 minutes.Trying to sound smart is the culprit behind you using speech as a sport & not paying proper attention to the plot. Now I can clearly tell you are smart so just be yourself, I'm sure your commentary would be perfect without the "reviewer" role-playing part-

"Alien": A youngster is boarding the "Nostromo." She's already seen "Aliens"? Even after a two year skip, let's see what she remembers about the sequel as she watches the original. I see that "Alien" still scares viewers 40 years later, with only Practical EFX, a solid story and well-defined characters, unlike today's "made for modern audiences" trash.

H R Giger was the artist behind "the Alien" creature. It was inspired by nightmares that he would sketch out upon waking. Matthew 25:30 And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. AND YOU THINK THIS IS JUST A MOVIE ? Revelation 9:1 And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit. 2 And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit. 3 And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth: and unto them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power. 4 And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads. 5 And to them it was given that they should not kill them, but that they should be tormented five months: and their torment was as the torment of a scorpion, when he striketh a man. REMEMBER THE SCENE WITH DALLAS SAYING "KILL ME"? 6 And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them. 7 And the shapes of the locusts were like unto horses prepared unto battle; and on their heads were as it were crowns like gold, and their faces were as the faces of men. 8 And they had hair as the hair of women, and their teeth were as the teeth of lions. 9 And they had breastplates, as it were breastplates of iron; and the sound of their wings was as the sound of chariots of many horses running to battle. 10 And they had tails like unto scorpions, and there were stings in their tails: and their power was to hurt men five months. 11 And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon.
