I find this game's ability to introduce new mechanics without introducing new things fascinating, there has been so many times watching this series where I've thought to myself, well surely they've ran out of new mechanics to introduce without introducing a new object or controlling multiple worms at once and luckily this game keeps proving me wrong.

Something I've noticed about the sound design is that the level-completion jingle start playing a few moves before actually finishing a level. Having such convoluted mechanics and mechanics stacking, I think this is an ingenious sound design. The game has so many ways to soft lock and hard lock the player in any given level that it's very easy to have them overthink everything and it's just mentally taxing in general, so it can be reasonably assumed that a player will get to a point where they will miss even the most obvious things. Having the jingle a few moves before level completion avoids those frustrating moments where the player is so close to completing a level but just didn't. The game tells you "that's it, that's the level, feel free to complete it, we didn't prepare any more twists.".
@an_asp
@an_asp Жыл бұрын
That's my favorite piece of polish in this game. It's presumably got a partial level solver implemented, so it can see a few moves into the future. Aside from starting the level-completion jingle early so it usually finishes when you solve the puzzle, that's probably also how they detect that you've failed the level: it gives you the prompt to undo even if you can still move around some, once you've entered into a set of moves you can't escape from. That's a lifesaver in this game on some of the tighter levels. Coincidentally, I once designed some assignments to teach students in an AI class about solving a simpler version of this exact type of puzzle, about moving worms around while their tail trails behind them. It turns out that you can use the same algorithms normally used for pathfinding in games to search for a "path" through the state space of a puzzle.
@Charcoal190
@Charcoal190 Жыл бұрын
(pink zone spoilers) it does get annoying when you're trying to find a solution for the "bridge the gap" puzzles and you don't want to end the puzzle yet, so you sometimes hear the jingle when you're not ready to end the puzzle
@muntedfinger
@muntedfinger Жыл бұрын
@@an_asp Spot on! I already had code to look ahead a few moves to detect when the player is stuck in order to show the undo/restart prompt. I realized since I was already doing this search ahead anyway then I could also do the win-state check & jingle for no extra work!

Hey Tyler, I’m Andrew (just a casual circus jester) and I figured I should also start commenting to help your algorithm. 👍🏻 Emotion Dumb: I am a huge fan of your content; you take silly little games and complete them with such a level of intelligence. This is probably the only program I keep up on religiously; I NEVER miss an episode. I get myself snacks and ready for when it drops at 11pm (central time), highlight of my night. Probably been watching for years, got hooked on your poly bridge content and have been with since. This last year I worked in Quebec; being so far from my American norms was hard, but this was the normality I rebalanced with nightly at midnight (eastern time). I just love what you are doing, star quality, 11 out of 10. TLDR: A+ content. Tyler is a genius and the Editor(s) are lowkey really funny af (love the face-crop cutaways).

Loved the longer video! Glad to see the game didn't lose all it's magic after jumping to the late game zone so early. On the one hand I kinda like the freedom of going wherever but on the other I think it'd be better if the game didn't let you get to that worm that early in the game. It uses too many shenanigans and the layout of the levels doesn't help in hidding the unlearned stuff

The last puzzle had a very elegant solution where you would sock the U-shaped worm last, and then swap between either side to roll over to the other side in one motion. Yet your solution was impressive either way.

The editors went through the effort of making a fake Yelp review over a single sentence. I mean, sure, probably isn't TOO hard to do, but it definitely takes longer than the time to say that sentence, and adds unnecessary editing time. And yet they still did it, the fucking madlads they are. I feel like I'm praising Tyler's editors more than I'm praising him nowadays. Kinda weird, but I'm down. (And tbf, Tyler's always been a legend and has gotten his fair share of praise. Without that, he wouldn't have been able to build a channel that needed editors, and he also had the foresight and knowledge to pick out god-tier editors, among probably at least dozens that applied.) Also, Potionomics?
