Alitalia Business Class? In 2023? Flying the Airbus A330 Classic from New York to Rome

Alitalia - Italy's flag carrier - went bust in 2021. MilleMiglia, Casa Alitalia, and Magnifica Class were no more, and many were sad to see it go, but the airline had struggled financially for years and only recorded one year of profit in its nearly 75 year history, so it was time for the Italian government to try something new. That something was called ITA Airways. The new Italian airline launched in 2021 to much fanfare, but two years on, it seems not much has changed. Come along as we hop on one of ITA's ex-Alitalia A330s - frozen in time - for a trip across the pond in Business Class!

OMG that is totally unacceptable that the lavatory of business class and/or first class which is far less people was so disgustingly filthy. I truly hope that you notified the purser and in addition to that wrote a letter of complaint to the CEO of ITA this way they can eradicate that once and for all. I would have been livid. Thank goodness that the dining service was outstanding. It was like dining at a very elegant Italian restaurant in NYC or in Rome, Milan for that matter. What were the amenities given you did not showed us that. Were you able to use the lounge upon entering the terminal and going through the customs? I understand that you can use the lounges as well and be able to shower if desired and shave and then have some coffee or tea and off to business or to the hotel and start a magnificent vacation. In your case go to the gate for your flight to London's Heathrow airport. Thanks again.

She has been retired for good. It was the oldest 330-200 still operating

It’s scrapped now, the current A330s still in service are EI-EJG, JH, JK, JL, JM, JO, and JP. They are the newer ones the oldest two are EI-EJG, and JH, which I flew onboard both aircraft in Summer 2010 when they were recently introduced to Alitalia’s fleet, from JFK to Rome, and the newest one is EI-EJP delivered to Alitalia in 2013.

do they lost your luggage because they are known for loosing baggage especially when you have connection can you tell me? and also do they served you snack and drink before meal because I hate when they jump to main meal

All my bags arrived safe and sound! And with respect to the meal, we weren't offered warm nuts or anything, if that's what you're asking. We were offered bread and a drink though, and there were two "courses" before the main arrived, so I'd consider that a snack for sure haha

'fresh' review, but not the bathroom! also the breakfast is very poor in my opinion! After all, its an old Alitalia plane....

So, is ITA part of SkyTeam (like Alitalia was before it)?

Officially, they’re a member of SkyTeam, but it feels like kind of a scam because they don’t allow reciprocal mileage earning with many SkyTeam partners and I don’t believe they recognize SkyTeam elite / elite plus status (i.e. if you’re a Delta Medallion traveling on ITA). However I think they do have closer partnerships with some SkyTeam airlines (i.e. Korean Air) that allows reciprocal mileage earning & redemption

@@jwil4286 I'm not sure. Looks like they just rolled out reciprocal mileage earning/redemption with Aerolineas Argentinas. I doubt they'll ever look and feel like a full SkyTeam member though - especially if the Lufthansa investment proceeds as planned, then they would likely join Star Alliance

@@flaps1019 idk if a deal with Lufthansa necessarily means they’ll join Star. For example, Alaska Airlines has partnerships with both Singapore Airlines and Turkish Airlines (along with many others that are not in oneworld), and yet it is still in oneworld.

At the time I flew, ITA was operating both between JFK and FCO. One daily frequency was the A330 classic and the other was the neo

NO INTERNATIONAL FIRST CLASS CABIN WHICH THEY OFFERED ON THE B-/$/ CALLED TOP CLASS. ONLY AIR FRANCE AND THE NEW LA PREMIERE FIRST CLASS CABIN COUNTS

Alitalia should not exist anymore. Those planes are expected to be retired once the newer models will enter service..

Yup, in 2027 all to be replaced by newer more efficient A330neo, but it’s really sad to see those classic old A330s go, because I remember flying on two of them (EI-EJG, and EI-EJH) around Summer 2010, when Alitalia recently introduced their A330s, and it still feels like yesterday, brings back memories

@@ramyfares9099 I'm italian, I live in Rone, they're hub all the A330s NEO arrived, they're slowly retiring A330s-200, A320s-200 CEO (replaced by 18 A320s-200 NEO) and A319s-100 CEO (replaced by A220s-100/300)
