Cornell student suspended over Gaza protest speaks out

Cornell University in the state of New York is suspending enrolment and study for students who participate in campus protests demanding an end to Israel's war on Gaza.
The school says that this is because students set up an encampment which they did not seek permission for.
Across many American universities - student protesters have set up encampments on their campuses and are calling for their universities to withdraw investment from companies with links to the Israeli military.
Nick Wilson is a Second-year undergraduate student at Cornell University and a protest organiser with the Coalition for Mutual Liberation.
He was suspended two days ago for participating in a demonstration at the campus against Israel's war on Gaza.
He joins us from Ithaca, New York to explain his side of the story.

As a Cornell Alum I can tell you that we have had a long history of protests on campus. The College says that they encourage community engagement and social activism but then do things like this. Why is it that students are being suspended now for thigs that countless have done in the past? The college needs to do better. I am proud of these students!

I’m a Cornell student, and I want them out. The Arts quad is surrounded by classrooms and the protestors make noise. I was walking to the library at 7 am and I got driven up to and followed by a cop car just for passing by them. The administration isn’t backing down; notice the boy avoids answering the interviewer’s questions- no, there’s no progress in negotiation, despite being there since Thursday, and there’s a silent majority of people who haven’t voted for divestment and aren’t on board.

The Palestinian people voted in Hamas to govern them knowing that they want to eradicate Israel from the face of the earth.
