It is the pigment that gives our skin its color. Typically, it appears on the cheeks, forehead, nose, and upper lip. Also, it is observed that melasma is more common in women than men.
Proceeding, the doctor discusses the causes of melasma wherein he explained that exact causes of melasma is yet not determined. However, hormonal changes, sun exposure, and genetics are believed to play a role. Also, pregnancy can cause melasma to happen. Women who are pregnant or taking birth control are particularly susceptible to developing melasma.
The doctor then goes on to explain the different types of melasma. There are three types: epidermal melasma, dermal melasma, and mixed melasma. Epidermal melasma affects the top layer of skin, while dermal melasma affects deeper layers. Mixed melasma is a combination of both.
Lastly, the treatment of melasma is discussed by Dr Jangid. These may include topical treatments like hydroquinone, tretinoin, or corticosteroids, as well as chemical peels or laser therapy. Additionally, the doctor mentioned that treatment plan for melasma may differ for every individual as it will be tailored accordingly and may involve a combination of these approaches.
To illustrate the effectiveness of these treatments, the doctor displays some before-and-after photos of patients who have undergone treatment for melasma at SkinQure Delhi. Many of these patients have seen significant improvement in the appearance of their skin after treatment.
