ALL ABOUT READING PRE READING CURRICULUM REVIEW | Pre K Language Arts | Timberdoodle Non Religious

All About Reading Pre Reading Curriculum Review
For our introduction to Language Arts with our Pre K 4-year-old, we received All About Reading Pre Reading in our Non-Religious Timberdoodle Curriculum Kit. The program is broken down into 3 parts: Uppercase Letters, Lowercase Letters, and Letter sounds. Included are a student workbook and teacher's guide, as well as 2 readers to reinforce the letter recognition and sounds. Unlike other programs All About Reading includes flashcards and a storage box with divider cards, 2 posters of upper and lowercase letters, a sticker tracker, a completion certificate, a storage bag, and Ziggy. Ziggy is a zebra hand puppet used frequently to help engage your youngster and my little one loves him. He is such a fun addition to the program and I know he has helped in our learning. All About Reading also offers 3 apps: 1 for letter sounds, 1 for phonogram sounds, and 1 to replace the letter tiles needed in later levels. The people at All About Reading Press have truly thought of everything. Their multi-sensory approach couple with prioritizing a time limit over lesson completion keeps my child engaged and excited to learn with Ziggy. So funny! We are just finishing up the upper case section and moving into lower case (I still watch videos to see what others might do differently) and I giggled when I seen your sticker chart because my little girl used the zebra stickers in the same fashion before grabbing for the others. To cute!

I’m new to Homeschooling. I’m homeschooling Twin 5 yr old girls and found out about All About Reading from one of your other videos, I looked them up and was impressed. I love the fact that it’s only 20 mins of reading because I’m bound to have one of my girls having a melt down 10 mins in saying “I’m bored”. This video made me feel a lot more comfortable that my girls can do this, your daughter did amazing! Thank you for sharing these learning videos with us and I look forward to more of these types of video!

Thank you! Our pre reading AAR has been backordered and due to arrive Thursday so this was perfect. I am excited to get it. The preview was very helpful. I am going to go ahead and download those apps and let him play with them a little. I have a question but its not about the video. I was curious, what is your etsy store?

I love that she is wearing the B B Beatles shirts while practicing her B sound. Thanks for another great review. I can't wait to start this program with my little ones. If I have two pre readers working through the same time what extras do I need to purchase for each student?

I would only recommend a second student workbook since there are so many things to cut out and color.

Great overview I have been contemplating this set for awhile... I was curious do you think it could be used in conjunction with a letter of the week curriculum? We are using one now, but my 4 year old seems to always be asking to do more... also do you know how this compares to The Good and the Beautiful pre k and the primer k programs? I have ordered both of these and was curious if they compared at all. Thank you

Yes, you can absolutely do this program along side a letter of the day activity. I am not familiar with the Good and the Beautiful so I honestly have no idea. Sorry I couldn't be more help. Maybe someone here can enlighten us. We have just moved on to level 1 and she is having a great time. I honestly was shocked she could still recite all of the letter sounds after our long holiday break.

I’m excited now, I have had this program in my cart for awhile and knowing it could be used with the letter of the week is great, I want my daughter to be getting the most out of our school time everyday and if she is asking to do more things, I really want to take advantage of that!

Completely agree!! My little one is obsessed with wanting to read right now so I'll encourage that as much as possible. The motivation is big sister gets to read after lights out. 🤣

Do they move onto all the different sounds each letter makes in upper levels? Similar to Logic of English.

I'm not familiar with LOE but yes, when my older daughter did level 3 she has moved onto all the sounds each letter makes and more difficult phonograms, like 3 letter I sound: igh.

After this we went into All About Reading Level 1, she's now doing Level 3 in 1st.

One of my children will turn 4 in November, (in 3 months) and he knows all the letter names, but no letter sounds. Would this be the perfect level for him, or should I wait til next year? I'm not sure how much he needs to know to start this level. Thank you for any input! 😊

I think it would be perfect. They may have an assessment on their website. They do have a free app you can download and they touch the letter and it says the letter sound. My daughter was just over 4 when we started and she breezed through because she could recognize her letters already.

I’ve been waiting for this video! I have a 4.5 year old girl that has letter recognition down and we’re working on letter sounds. I wouldn’t say she’s master them though and we definitely haven’t focused on rhyming or syllables. I can’t figure out if this program would be worth our investment? It does seem a bit pricey. Thoughts?

My daughter had letter recognition and I would say some letter sounds down before starting. We did go through and follow the program, reviewing them anyway. Using this program has introduced her to rhyming and syllables. She is now telling us everything she hears or thinks of a rhyme. She can also clap out and count how many syllables in words. I am certain that this skill will serve her very well as we progress into learning to read. I would absolutely say that this program provides a great value.
