I calibrated my maker for the knife blade, then used the cutting blade to cut some 1/16 inch basswood. It recommended 14 passes, so I set it, and left my project. The final results were heart breaking. I had a perfect cut of a shape that went completely through my grip mat. Not deterred, I tried again, and this time I carefully watched my project. For my maker it actually only takes six passes to cut through 1/16 inch basswood. The settings don't allow me to change the passes, so I just make sure to watch the projects carefully.

YES! You have to start checking at about 1/2 way through the cut with any knife blade projects.

Hi ladies. I cut Graphix medium weight chipboard today with my Maker and a brand new knife blade. I chose the Cricut 2.0mm chipboard setting because my chipboard was 2.0mm thick. I ended up cutting completely through my brand new Strong Grip mat on 75% of the cut lines and I now have a few small, thin 1/4" long cuts/cracks in the floor*/base of my Maker machine itself!!! I watched it cut the entire time but my 2 designs were only 3" by 4" so most of the design was under the carriage while it was cutting, therefore making it hard to tell if it did cut through or not. I almost cried when I seen the scratches/cracks!!! I will be using the pause feature regularly from here on out!!! Absolutely devastated. I did cut one Print then Cut on printer paper after with the fine point blade and it cut perfectly, I really hope I didn't damage my Maker. I love it so much!! Thanks for teaching me about the pause/lift technique. 😭😭😭

I was researching what machine to get to do the type of crafts that I am doing now and want to do because my current machine, a Cricut Explore One, is older and I know not as versatile as I'm sure the newer ones are. Your presentation was excellent!!! Kudos for that! Very well organized and very informative. I do have one other material I was curious about, mylar for stenciling. When I first started gathering materials I would need, I got some 10mil (Yeah, really thick) because I wanted my stencil to hold up for several uses. All my Cricut would do is to scratch the surface. Being a new user, I didn't know that it is not uncommon to have to do multiple passes to cut all the way through some materials, at least I didn't until now. (THANK YOU!) I figured out it was way too thick so I got some 6mil. It would cut through some, but not all the way even after 2 passes. If you could try this on yours, I would appreciate it.

Thank you so much for this video. I feel like almost all the videos I've found on the circuit have been from folks who only use the Cricut brand materials and just do the most basic stuff. You always do a wonderful job. I really appreciate your efforts, Angie. You might want to experiment with sheet styrene. It's probably the most common material used by diorama and railroad modelers. It comes in many sizes such as .030 in, or .020. . I'm going to have to do some experimenting with it. Your methodology is very helpful to me in this. I enjoy your videos very much even if they're on a subject I'm not directly interested in.

With chipboard, start about half way through the cut and stop your machine to check the cut. That will prevent damage to your mat. You can remove the project when it has cut all the way through.

That was a wonderful video thank you. I’m very new to Cricut and my maker three only came with one blade and I don’t even know what that blade is, but I have cut paper and vinyl and HTV. I found it doesn’t do the dollar tree vinyl at all, it is so wonky, and I’m having a bit of issues with my machine letting go of the mat and Cricut has been no help to me at all. I literally have to pull it out to get the mat out, I forget not using a mat, but that’s another story. thank you for your tips and your hints and I look forward to using a lot of different materials now.

Try this for a blade explanation: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/r7h2qK172Muogo0.html - your machine came with the fine point blade. At the end of the cut, the double arrow button should be flashing. Press that button and the mat should eject from the machine almost completely. Be sure to tell the machine that you are cutting on the mat when you start your cut.

Plus, I can use it for designs in card making and so many other things. It just haste get has to first.

Hello you are awesome! I just purchased my maker and I'm so excited to use it... I was wondering what's the name of the heat form material you used, also do you know of a silicone or rubber sheet thin enough to be cut?
@AngieHolden

You can find the heat form here: www.eti-usa.com/heatform . I have not tried anything with silicone or rubber however.

Highly informative. Thanks! Any advice on cutting styrene sheets for scale model-type stuff, which is often bonded with Testors weld (liquid that chemically bonds the pieces)?

I would try the knife blade for that. However, how thick are those? You will be limited to the 2.4 mm that the machine can accept.

Since I just just purchased the Cricut Maker 3, I found the this very helpful! I was wondering if there is a chart that lists the materials and setting recommendations that you talked about. Thanks!

Most odd materials are trial and error for what setting you cut them on.

Yes I agree detailed information!! 90% of my craft is to recycle cereal, cracker, soda packaging. I do have a question in how does shrink plastic or stencil plastic cut and which blade would be best. Also do you just purchase more mats or clean and reuse old mats?
@AngieHolden
@AngieHolden 4 жыл бұрын
Both shrink and stencil plastic cut great and I usually use the fine point blade for those. You can try to clean your mats but eventually you will need to purchase more.

Thank you for the useful information! I want to cut foam sheets attached to a magnetic sheet. Do you think the knife blade would be the best blade to use?
