Thank you so so much for making this tutorial. Do you have a tutorial video and I’m sorry if you do and I just haven’t checked yet but I just really liked your video so I thought I’d ask quickly, but do you have a video on cutting tool in leather on the cricket maker? I’m having a problem with it it’s spends all night cutting and in the morning and still not cut all the way through I’m using the knife tool and I’m using 4-5 oz. of tolling leather! Thank you so much and advance for any help and for this video!

Hi Siufer, I do show you how to cut the tooling leather with a Cricut in this video. I use a knife blade and I think it does do that many passes if I recall. If it hasn't cut through (and you haven't unloaded the mat yet) you can push the ”go” button again and it will do a few more cuts. That's probably the easiest thing to do. Another option would be to create a custom material setting that uses the knife blade and increases the pressure and passes. You can do that my clicking on the custom materials button in the bottom left corner of the material settings options page. The last recommendation would be to to skip the Cricut and just use a rotary blade and a ruler. Tooling leather can be cut fairly easily by hand. ❤️

Great job...one question do u have to use the purple mat if your taping it down anyway?
@WellCraftedStudio
@WellCraftedStudio 3 жыл бұрын
You should because even a little bit of shifting can screw up your engrave. By pressing your object to the mat you’re get a strong adhesion over the entire surface. The tape acts as edge reinforcement but can still have some wiggle room. That being said if you use a new standard grip mat with tape you’re probably just fine because the adhesive is so strong at first. Hope that helps!

Hi! Thanks for asking- I’m not super sure though what you’re asking. You gave specifics which is great but I’ve been trying to figure it out and can’t look at your time bc this video is 19 min. Maybe you’re thinking of a different one? The debossing leather and cutting this thick of leather unfortunately is not something you can do with the air. BUT- you can cut leather with the air. It just has to be thinner leather- preferably the faux leather. If you reply back with a little more info I might be able to help more! And thanks again.

Great video. How clean are the edges when you cut the leather? I suppose if you sand and burnish your edges after it doesn't make a huge difference. I'm debating buying a maker myself as otherwise I'd cut using metal die's and a mallet which definitely gives clean cuts though is less flexible than the cricut in terms of varying design
@WellCraftedStudio
@WellCraftedStudio 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you!!!! The edges are super clean- as long as you check the cut before you unload the mat after it finishes the cut. It gives you the option of doing another pass. I just peel up the edge and If it hasn’t cut through entirely then I push the “go” button again. Then I repeat this as many times as needed. It does take a little while though- so if you’re planning on production you might want to use a rotary cutter and end stamp for the leather. The Maker will cut, deboss, engrave, and cut holes in the leather- so it is one machine that does it all. And like you said, it is very flexible as far as the design. I love cutting my own shapes with it. I have a leather barrette tutorial where I cut a more intricate shape. It’s pretty awesome. ❤️

Okay so I did looks this up and I can’t find any info on it using a Cricut. So I would suggest just trying it! The engraving tip would have worked differently on the leather but it would have worked. I used the debossing because I’ve crafted with leather in the past and know that it works well with stamps if the leather is the tooling leather and somewhat damp. It made sense to use the debossing tip for something similar.

Hi! So, I just have a quick question about the pattern you used. I really love it, but I was wondering if you knew where I could find different patterns to use with my circuit? I would like to start making leather earrings with different debossing patterns on it, more of a western feel if that makes sense. I was just wondering if you knew where I could find some online, or would I need to purchase the circuit cuddlebug in order to do those types of patterns?
@WellCraftedStudio
@WellCraftedStudio 4 жыл бұрын
Taylor Welch hi! I drew the pattern in Procreate and then uploaded the image as a .png into Cricut Design Space. I think I know what you’re saying with the more Western feeling and that is something you could design pretty easily. Earrings are a smaller area to work with so you might want to try engraving the leather instead of Debossing. Because the Debossing is pressing down on the leather it kind of makes wider lines then you may want for a smaller area. If that makes sense. You can get more detail with the engraving tip. Depending on how thick your leather is using an embossing folder may work better. I have a leather feather I made with a Big Shot (like the cuddlebug) and there’s really nice detail. But, you don’t have as much control over the design. I hope this helped- if not feel free to ask me!
@taylorwelch7930
@taylorwelch7930 4 жыл бұрын
@@WellCraftedStudio Yes, that did help! But, I am not the best at drawing up designs, so I wasn't sure if there was a place where someone else had made them, like what you did, if that makes any sense! I just can't draw lol. But, thank you for that information, I was definitely going to dry both debossing and engraving to see what I liked better. I was also going to try debossing leather, and then tooling over the embossing, (because I can't draw very well). I'm not sure how well it would work, it was just an idea. Thank you for getting back to me! If you happen to find any information about different patterns that have already been made and could be downloaded for the circuit, I would love to know!

Taylor Welch sorry! I didn’t think through what you were asking. I would search Etsy- I always find design ideas there. You can use any .png .jpeg, or .svg file and upload them into Cricut Design Space. Just search leather earring design files. Hi Jess - I have supply links in my blog post. The best place to get the leather depends on what’s accessible to you and how much you want. I have a Tandy Leather near me and think they’re a great resource for materials and advice. However, you can get the tooling leather in strips at any of the major craft stores as well. My post has links to Amazon and to Tandy. Unfortunately, you can’t cut the thicker tooling leather with a Cricut explore, and both the Knife Blade and the Debossing tool are only available for the Cricut Maker. Hope that helps!

It’s a good idea- but personally I found that the pressure for some of the tools (like the engraving tool) was less consistent on the side. If I did it in the middle I had better results. No clue why- I maybe the wheels? I think there’s probably something to do with the star wheels as well, since they have us move them all the way to the right.

But that being said, there are times I do line things up in the corner because it’s easier to get a consistent alignment between mats. So it’s one of those things that I guess you could go either way on, and you’ll likely form your own opinion based on your experience. 💕

Is there a difference between debossing and engraving leather?
@WellCraftedStudio
@WellCraftedStudio 4 жыл бұрын
Jennifer D Yes! I love that you asked! Debossing is pushing down on the leather and basically moving it. You’re not getting rid of any leather, you’re just compressing it and shifting it aside. Engraving is basically scratching the leather and removing the top layer. The leather you would use for Debossing is tooling leather. Tooling leather has not been finished yet with dye or a sealer so it moves more easily when debossed or “tooled”. The leather you use for engraving can be tooling leather but you can also use a leather that has been dyed and sealed. I hope that helps! Let me know if you have more questions about this- I love to help!

Can you help me, please?(Thank you for this tutorial.) I am going to make many leather wrist cuffs for a donation for a friend's company. Originally, I thought I had to use a metal stamp, (The kind you hit with a mallet), but getting a custom made one with the name and logo was on average $300.00 for one custom made stamp! And I needed 3! That price was way out of my range! Especially for donations. A friend was telling me she just got a new Cricut and loved it for her type of crafting. So I thought I would look up Cricut Machines to see if they embossed (stamped) a name and logo onto leather. They did! My only problem is I need help in advising me which one would work best for what I need. Obviously I'm on a budget, so I want to only get exactly what I need. It doesn't have to be able to do many types of crafts. Just mostly stamping/(embossing(?) Is that what embossing means?) leather. May I ask for some help to find the best one I need for embossing (like stamping or imprinting), please? I already have some that are cut, and I was hoping to use them, (up-cycling/re-purposing real leather belts) but I can get a piece of leather like you used. Any advice or help in what I need would be greatly appreciated. Also does The Cricut Machine embroider on leather? I have looked everywhere for places to make me a stamp, I never thought The Cricut Machine would do this! I had never even seen a Cricut before! I will purchase one if I can find someone to give me advice. So far, no Cricut tutorial page has replied back to me 😥.
@WellCraftedStudio
@WellCraftedStudio 4 жыл бұрын
Gibby's Wife Hi! I love that you are making cuffs to donate! The Cricut is a pretty amazing machine. I’m constantly finding new things that I can do with it. If you’d like to do the debossing on leather there’s a couple things to know. 1) Is you would need to use the tooled leather. If leather has been finished (stained and sealed) then you can’t tool it any longer. So that would be the same for stamping on it as well as doing something like Debossing. 2) Debossing is similar to embossing. Debossing is pushing down and compressing the leather. Usually you deboss to emboss. The embossing is a raised surface. So in paper crafting you push down on the back of a piece of paper so that the front is raised up (embossed). I totally had to look that up when the Debossing tool came out. I’d never heard of Debossing before that. 3) So to deboss leather you need to be able to push down on the leather. It needs to be tooling leather. And it doesn’t push down very deeply. If you wet the leather then it goes a little deeper and you can get it to go over the design multiple times, but it’s still not as deep as traditional stamping or tooling. Cricut calls their Debossing tool a “fine Debossing tool” so I’m hoping they come out with something that makes a deeper impression. 4) This only works with the Cricut Maker- it has the power to press harder then other Cricut machines. But- kind of cool is that you CAN engrave with the Maker as well. And that does work with upcycled leather because it scratches the surface instead of pushing down on it. Sorry I didn’t respond right away. I actually wrote you a reply this morning but my phone died and by the time it was powered up again I’d forgotten I hadn’t finished the comment. I’d love to help if you have more questions or want me to clarify anything. ❤️ It sounds like you’ve got a great heart and creating with purpose is something I love to encourage!

@@WellCraftedStudio Thank You So Much for taking the time to reply to my confusing dilemma.😊 I will certainly read through your reply over again and even a few more times too (lol) and look into exactly what I need. I appreciate you explaining the difference between embossing and debossing! All of the words I see used that mean the same as those words are confusing to someone who this is new to! I now have a better understanding of at least words pertaining to the difference, now. Thank you. May I ask yet another question? I hate to take up so much of your time. You have been so generous of your time already, by sharing your detailed reply. But there is something I'm still a bit confused about. (To most crafters it's probably a no-brainer..lol) Here goes: As I understand, The Cricut Machine itself is just the ~'main system'~? And for each different craft you make, you will need to purchase separately, a cartridge for each particular craft you want to make, and use the Cricut~ 'main system' ~(computer part?) to run the cartridge? Or is there a particular Cricut product I can purchase to use to make only one craft? (Like debossing) I'm so sorry if I'm not explaining my question clearer. But maybe you can get the idea of what I mean? I hope so🤷‍♀️. I'm not sure because there are so many different Cricut Machines? Or another way to put it: Is there just one Cricut Machine that only "debosses", and not be used for any other craft? (by needing to purchase separate cartridges for crafts I will never make? This question is mostly about saving money.) For example: I dont want to over purchase a whole Machine that has the capability to use many different cartridges to make many different crafts, because I only need to use it for one thing?) Is there one Cricut Machine that is solely used to deboss and engrave leather? I'm thinking maybe the Cricut Machine you suggested can accept more than the cartridge I will use? If Cricut does not make an individual machine for one particular use, I understand. But if you could possibly clarify that for me, I could better understand what cartridges I would be able to use. (I also make jewelry.) The Cricut Machine and etching pen you talked about sounds great! Also how many cartridges would I need? (and Cost?) For all the trouble you have gone to, and the extent you went to in helping me, I will buy Cricut products, for sure. I want you to know that. Thank you for your time and suggestions. I feel more confident that I know there is something I can use for making my leather cuffs. I certainly appreciate all of your help. Any advice is very much appreciated because I have no one to ask or show me how to use The Cricut. (I'm 62 and it takes me a little longer to understand new things like this all by myself.) Thank you so very much.😊

Seriously it’s no trouble! Helping people makes me feel good so I love it when I get questions! 🥰 So Cricut has different machines available. None of the newer one’s use cartridges anymore. They are all using a computer based design program. What that means is you are not limited to what you want to design. They do have pre-designed patterns and files but you can easily create your own designs as well. That’s what I do. They do have one machine that does it all- that’s the Cricut Maker. It takes different tools to do different things. Some of the tools are sold separately. The tools clamp into the machine and has a mechanism that pushes down and moves it. Legit anything you can design you create. It’s awesome. Besides using tools like the engraving tool, the Debossing tool, a rotary cutting tool, an xacto knife type of tool there’s also markers that you can insert so that it draws your design. Something else you may want to consider for the cuffs is that you can cut your design from iron on vinyl and iron it onto the leather. It’s a different look but that would be easy. Lots of the people in the Cricut Facebook groups I’m in are 60+. So I’m positive that you could rock this. It’s just a little hard to wrap the mind around at first. I’m in the Jennifer Maker Cricut Crafters Facebook group. I also have my own Facebook group that’s pretty new. But in both people post their Cricut projects and that would give you an idea of what’s possible. It’s really going to blow your mind! 🤯 And again, if you have more questions please feel free to ask!

@@WellCraftedStudio I would like to thank you so very much for all of your help. You have been wonderful, and so very kind! I currently don't do Facebook. But maybe I can join just on your pages? I would love to see what all you can do😊. I will be looking into purchasing what I need to start on my project, at first, so it will be easier to follow along with the tutorials. I can't wait to see the end craft product before I even start my craft project! This is a big step for me. When I was in School, we didn't even know what Computers did, a Telephone was something only used for talking, and a Television had at the most 7 channels, if you lived in the rural country areas like I did. Times change! Thank you again. You have been more than helpful. Have a wonderful Evening. Please stay safe and healthy during this Coronavirus Pandemic. Take Care. Blessings to You, my Friend. 🙏💞

@@WellCraftedStudio Hello🙋‍♀️ I again wanted to thank you for your help and the time you took answering all of my questions. I wanted to let you know I just ordered The Cricut Maker Machine Bundle!!! I am so excited. I will be using your tutorials and holding on to every word you say😊. It's got a lot of new things that I am not familiar with that comes with it, but maybe it will spark a new craft interest in me I never knew I had! Lol. Thank you so much again for your help. I just may have to ask you a question or two in the future, if you still don't mind? But I'm hoping I can figure out as many things that I can on my own. Baby steps at first, for sure! Please stay Safe and Healthy during these serious and intensive upcoming weeks facing us now. Sending Prayers To All 🙏. Blessings, My Friend.🤲💞

Oh no! The knife blade you mean isn’t cheap? You definitely wouldn’t want to use the fine point blade for this. I can see how that could go wrong fast! And I honestly haven’t made a ton of these because I tend to figure something out and then move on to the next thing. But if I was trying to do a bunch of these I would cut the leather with a rotary blade with a straight edge like a ruler, use a hole cutter for the snaps, and then use a template (or in a belt end tool) to round the end of the leather. I would just use the Cricut to deboss the leather with my design. Leather, even tooling leather, cute easily with a quality rotary blade.

So I went to the website to get the free password, however it takes me to a page that says "Woo Hoo!!! You're just seconds away from getting the super secret password to free Procreate brushes and Cricut designs." And is asking me to buy a $12 Boho Rainbow Brush Bundle. There is not a button to bypass this page, so it looks like I HAVE TO purchase this $12 bundle before I can get the FREE password. 🤔🤔 Oh, and it's been longer than seconds that I've been waiting. What's the deal??
