Gotta love how Big Red Button gets tasked with redesigning Sonic and their first idea was "let's do Crash Bandicoot." Then when SEGA shot that down, their next idea was "OK, let's just do Sonic again."

@@masterprick1 How come Sega restricting what Big Red Button can do and forcing them to make the characters just look like the originals but with sports tape on them isn't stupid to you?

@@ElectrikStatik900 Because that would affect how recognizable the character is and would have a direct impact on sales. If you want to criticize Sega for something, it should be for how they forced Red Button to change development mid production for a weaker console.

Even if you somehow missed one or two projects, I don't think it matters. This is easily the most comprehensive collection of cancelled Sonic projects out there on KZfaq. You should be extremely proud! Fantastic job!

Sonic Mars 32x "demo gameplay" is actually a mock-up made on Amiga computer by Chris Senn. No actual playable prototype was ever made.

Nitrome took Sonic day and made into Leap Day which is a really fun game even without sonic in it. I used to play Leap a day quite consistently back then and if I knew the game was originally a sonic game I would have been blown away.

My headcannon is that the word "Extreme" and its variations is a FORBIDDEN word for any future Sonic title. As if the idea of putting "Extreme" in the title is an omen for it to be cancelled later on. A curse, if you will.

With Sonic X, technically the original pitch was “canceled” since it was shown to take place on Mobius (or “Sonic’s World” as it was called in the anime) due to the population of Station Square having anthro characters. Most of the pilot was reused in the Sonic X Japanese opening “Sonic Drive.” Of course the main thing people remember about this pilot was the radical redesign of Super Sonic which became the infamous Nazo character which of course was reimagined as the main antagonist in ChakraX’s The Power of Nazo and Nazo Unleashed fan films as well as the canceled sequel Wrath of Nazo.

Nazo was not in the original pilot. He was actually in the 2nd pilot which has the same story as the final show

@@carso1500 That doesn't make sense. In the same animation you SEE regular Super Sonic, it wouldn't make sense at all for them to show off SS and then cut to this Form the way they did unless it was something else they were going to use at some point. Where did you see this information?

also was not expecting my friend Ynox's Unleashed port to be featured, awesome inclusion, I myself have been trying to work on a Unleashed DS fan game (only planned for PC as of now, maybe DS eventually), been taking a hiatus from the project, but I hope to one day finish what I set out to do @Jetter06 @@Jetter06

One thing you missed is that the concept for "sonic day" was later reused by nitrome for their own original game called "leap day" with the same premise and gameplay as sonic day

Leap day came before. They were doing a Sonic verdion of it. Leap Day later received high budget sequels though.

Great job with the video! Just a fun fact, you actually missed a cancelled Sonic game but I dont blame you. This game is called Sonic and the Level Creator. This game had a Sonic Official Level Maker that used Sonic 1 assets and even had an exclusive Zone 7 added to it that seemed more a Sonic CD zone in terms of style with a Sonic 4 theme song. You are welcome! This Sonic and the Level Creator game was made on Flash by the way. Despite there being many Flash preservation projects from both Sonic Flash Games and Sonic Flash Websites (Microsites), Sonic and the Level Creator is one of those games that was never preserved and unfortunately last time I checked it could not be played, which is a shame. Either way as far as I recall now this is the only Sonic game you missed out on so great job! If you ever need some help with video topics feel free to reach out and I will gladly help out! As an extra add on, Sonic Synergy was being built on the latest version of the Cryware Engine, which was not compatible with the Wii U. Essentially, Red Button had to do the game from scratch with a new engine with a tight deadline.

Actually, I didnt this time! There is two ways to spell cancelled! 1) canceled [this is the US version 2) cancelled [ This is the UK version I honestly just perfer the UK version of the word so I spelled it that way instead this time, 🤣 trust me im not about to miss spell that word a second time

3:30 Sonic Origins being the better way to play Sonic 3 & Knuckles when compared to Sonic 3 Complete is debatable.

I completely agree! I didnt mean that sonic 3 complete wasnt better then orgins, i meant that there are easier and more accessible ways of playing it for people since not everyone wants to use roms and emulators and or go out to find a flash cart

Knuckles Chaotix was also going to get a port on the Sonic Gems Collection. Also I don't remember which issue it was but in the Archie Comics around 1997 or so, In an interview with Tails writen toward the back of the comic. He mentioned a game called Virtua-Sonic which was in the works. I wonder if this is a long lost game or if it turned into something like Sonic R or Sonic Ride.

*Correction: Virtua Sonic was mentioned in Archie Sonic Issue 36 (And Tails Wasn't Writing it.) The Release date was said to be Winter 96 and I would have come out for the Saturn.

1:28:05 Japanese/French Translator here. For anybody wondering about volume 2... yeah there's only 11 pages that are actual comics in it. The rest is a game guide. I read through it and the comics are mainly sonic/knuckles doing a tiny bit of remenscing and that's it. Imo it's not really worth translating but I could throw out a google doc with the translation if people really want it.

Sonic day reminds me a lot of the nitrome game Leap day. They play mostly the same. It is similar to it’s act and day system.

Lmao, well this new video adds info to several entrys, fixes spelling mistakes and other issues, and adds a whoooole bunch of new entry's that were not in the orginal! Like the supposed sonic 4 for the saturn, sonic free riders for the wii, the offical sonic webcomic, and so on and so forth lol

Great intresting video, defenetly a bit more acurate information than the last one, however as one of the 4 ppl in the world that like sonic 4 I need to say that only ep2 was a comercial failure, ep 1 sold 1milion copies and at the time of its release recived favorable reviews. If you see "some call me jhonhy" one of his first videos is a sonic 4 review and I think he liked it at the time.

Man Sega should bring back Sonic Orgins and Sonic Synergy and hire the original development team again and give them the time they need to make these games extremely great and extremely awesome and I know Sonic synergy was basically the same thing as sonic orgins with a few changes but still Sega should do smart and good ideas such as bringing these games back

sonic 4 ep 2 wii was canceled cuz nintendo didn't allow the file size for the wii ware games to exceed a certain amount, it was impossible to fit the game for ep 1 they had to remade the music in MIDI so they can fit the game in the file size limit

This is just my opinion, but I think sonic 3D blast should’ve been called sonic 32X and released on the 32X Edit: I made this when I was like 10 minutes into the video and then it turns out there was a canceled sonic game called sonic 32X so never mind about the last paragraph I said about sonic 3-D blast

sonic 3 was also considered to have isometric gameplay which may be what that one mockup was for and not actually the later real 3D Blast

I love this video. It is PHENOMENAL. But I do gotta ask, why did you take the Sonic Fanon wiki as your main source for Sonic 4 Episode III? Not tryina judge you or anythin', and that probably IS how it would play, but I'd love to know.

Also It was the only source that I could reliably find, some websites had inaccurate info and or not enough, and ive never had any issues with the sonic fanon wiki befor so I mean, i just used the resources avalible to me that I was aware of! Why ya ask? Is there a better sight I could use in the future or look out for when im doing reaserch? If so id love to know for future videos!

I really do wish Chronicles got a sequel. The Gizoids are my favorite thing in Sonic lore and having just Battle and Chronicles talk about their lore and origins kinda sucks.

@@Jetter06 Nope...they just released a unifished builds. Misfit pack got canceled almost one year ago, while S2 Mania is missing a lot of bosses and a lot of Stages was not finished, like the Metropolis Zone, Sky Chase with no enemies, Wing Fortress with nothing than the tilesets, and Sand Shower, Wind Ocean and Cyber City was also not finished. Both got canceled :( the misfit ''final'' build is way more buggy than the demos we got in SAGE...

Sonic “Crackers” is actually called Sonic Clackers. Due to a translation error, it was accidentally called Crackers. Clackers are the toys that has like one string with 2 balls connected to the end. It was supposed to be like 2 characters with a clacker. Sort of how the physics worked in the final version of Knuckles Chaotix. [Info from Big Sleeter btw you should watch his content]

The old Movie Sonic design wasn't a publicity stunt. It was actually gonna be used. The on set eye reference prop was of the old design all the first movie's merch aside from books and plushies used the old design, leaked screenshots of early scenes of the film had the old design, they actually were gonna use it. If it was a publicity stunt, the movie wouldn't have gotten delayed.

If they had just taken the "Sega Rally" codebase, replaced the car with a hedgehog, and made the tracks as long as the CD ROM format would allow.... Because that is what Sonic is. It's a 2d racing game.

So sorry! I only just noticed your comment on the last video. I see you found the game books that I mentioned. It’s not related to sonic but around the same time we got 10 Super Mario, 2 legend of Zelda and 2 lemmings game books too. All were fantastic. There might have been more but that’s all I ever saw as a kid. For the sonic books. I could probably find you scans of the 4 that I mentioned. I noticed you showed them in the pic but didn’t talk about them. They’re super hard to find so it’s no surprise if you missed them. After a decade plus of searching. I actually find the books on Amazon of all places lol but I’m pretty sure I could find the scans on the internet if you wanted them.

Playing a little fast and loose with the definition of "canceled." I don't think a rejected pitch counts as canceled as to be canceled, actual preproduction at least should have been started. How would the Tangle and Whisper box set been a canceled ARCHIE comic when they were created by IDW for IDW, they were never Archie characters.

I have a theory that the sequel to sonic chronicles was reworked into either forces or unleashed, forces being the most likely one Both share similarities to the original sequel idea but forces shares more OG: going around the world amassing an army Forces: does that too OG: Taking down the eggman empire in a war Forces: huh, does that too OG: Big bad manipulating things behind the scenes Forces: ...KIINNNDDA does that and unleashed shares some of these too, this could be wrong so take this with a grain of salt tho
