Күн бұрынI wanted to do a video about the Dreamcast since its one of my favorite video game consoles, so then since I couldn't find a video on youtube that had every dreamcast startup, I decided to make a video about just that! Enjoy! The Dreamcast is owned by SEGA not me (obviously)

It was announced today, April 2nd, 2023 that Ryuichi Sakamoto, the composer behind the Dreamcast startup theme, has passed away on March 28th, 2023. May his legacy of film scores, experimental albums, and an iconic startup theme be remembered.

@@Hillthugsta no it failed because some people hacked/stolen the dreamcast SDK from sega, which allowed people to burn games using exploit in the MIT CD media format and because there was piracy less developers made games for it since they would lose money because of the piracy *l͟o͟o͟p͟* and because there were less games less people wanted to bought it and because less people bought it developers didnt make their game ports to the consoles because there wasnt lot of people on the platform who would bought it so it was little waste of money. *go to "loop"*

I'm getting a system modded with the 3D bios startup screen, so it will be nice to see this one for a change. I can see how some may think the devkit startup is tacky, but the music makes me think of saturday morning cartoons as a kid, it's a cool little tune. I prefer the minimalist startup, but I like both.

The last console for sega... Sadly it was the first descent console for the company. Dreamcast was the first console that did everything right without need for extra components and add-ons. It was so good. For the fortunate few who have the console still today I recommend to keep it alive because Dreamcast took with it a whole gaming era... Excellent machine.

saturn was an excellent console if you were Japanese or you knew how to import japanese games the mega drive was also the company at its peek and the system went toe to toe with the snes the dreamcast I dont even need to explain the master system is still being support in regions like brasil

It failed because when the Playstation 2 was released people started liking it more than the Dreamcast and because of this it's sales plummeted.

Along with what thenewmannumber1 said, a big part of why it failed is because of what came before it. The disastrous Sega CD (a Genesis add-on that didn't add much to games beyond FMV capability), the even worse 32X (Another Genesis add-on, which Sega of America made without permission, not realizing that Sega of Japan was TRYING to work on the Saturn), and the Sega Saturn (which, while not bad in itself, was released too early in order to try to beat the PlayStation 1, frustrating developers who were trying to get launch titles out, along with ultimately having its planned main-series Sonic game (dubbed "Sonic Xtreme") cancelled) failing all in rapid succession meant that no matter how good the DC was, it had a heck of a lot of debt to cover that simply wasn't possible. Made even harder by the disillusioned-by-then fanbase who were sick of shelling out piles of money for every single new installment in Sega's then-frequent hardware releases.

It didn't have a DVD player, which the PS2 had. Also, it was released too early. On the other hand, the Dreamcast were basically pioneers on online games in consoles.

No backwards compatibility with saturn, PS2 Could with PS1 which lead to even more games than dreamcast and saturn combined.

I didn’t grow up with a Dreamcast (I was 2-3 when Sega announced the console’s end), but there’s a strangely nostalgic feeling I get from all of these versions. Maybe it’s that late 90’s-early 2000’s aesthetic that was so popular back then? Like the “water drop”-like sounds in the opening of the US/EU consoles? Or even the magical song to the later console openings? I don’t know. Either way, I love it!

I feel like the second version was a better demonstration of the Dreamcast's abilities. They should have stuck with that.

The secound version was for the developer-only devkits. So in a sense it did demonstrate the habilities, but for a different kind of people.

Devkit boot should have been the retail boot animation, and the retail boot shoud have the devkit boot animation. Makes more sense.

The differences between the Dreamcast swirls: the orange swirl represents the USA, the red swirl represents Japan and the blue swirl represents Europe.

One of my friends was from Switzerland and had the German version. We thought it was so weird that his was blue. His dad was an engineer at some big tech firm and broke the location lock. He could also play some PS1 games on it.

The Official startup sounds like they believed in their "ultimate gaming system" motto. The breeze and water drop sounds gave the console some PC startup vibes (funny, since the Dreamcast has some connections with Windows CE). The Development Kit startup it's pretty, colorful with a cute jingle, like if it was made to remind you of your inner child wishing to have fun with said console.
