Your definition for Mechatronics is fit for electromechanical engineering, while they're similar but there's two major differences: 1- electromechanical engineering have a sequential approach, you design the mechanical aspect of your project then the electrical the software while Mechatronics have a concurrent approach. 2- Mechatronics has information system while electromechanics does not, using information system for modeling simulation and optimization is our whole shtick.

@@Moos1904 No such thing as better, theyre just different, Mechatronics rather than being "Electrical and mechanical" is "Mechanical and Electronic" Electromechanical engineering focuses on the design, maintenance and construction of different systems and machines that, as the name suggets, use electrical and mechaical systems, this engineering ususally works on higher scale (factories, rochets, vehicles etc). Mechatronics on the other hand focuses on the design, maintenance and construction of mechanical systems that make and emphasys on software, Robots, automated systems, prostheses, for example, hence why it combines mechanical and electronics and not electrical.

There are trade-offs when you've gone through the old curriculum. Mostly, advantages... Your school may had just opted to change it because of the high drop-out rates and taking into consideration the dropping student's affinity or gifting to his or her major.

This is so different in Belgium, my dad has a degree in civil engineering but specialized in elektrotechnics and now desings car parts. I also got my degree in civil engineering but specialized in applied physics and I now work more on general calculations like checking how much a bridge can hold etc.. In Belgium theres just three main engineering degrees: Industrial, Bio and Civil but we specialize for example in chemistry in industrial engineering and in pyshics in civil engineering.

It would also explain the "why" if your university is a private university and run by a chancellor or president plus a board of trustees. Because if it's a board of trustees, your department is dependent on budget allocation and budget allocation is dependent on research outputs and research output is magnified by graduating students. Less graduating students means less hand and brains on research outputs. And the budget of private and regional universities are limited compared to state universities which are secured due to General Appropriations Acts every year which are determined by both houses of Congress.

Supposedly, these subjects are departmental subjects or common subjects among engineering disciplines: 1. Statics of rigid bodies 2. Dynamics of rigid bodies 3. Strength of materials 4. Fluid mechanics 5. Numerical methods 6. Probability and Statistics 7. Engineering management 8. Engineering economy 9. Materials science These are ES or emgineering science subjects. The same professors. The same subjects. The same exams. The same grading standard. That is why these are called engineering science subjects because whether you are a civil, mechanical, electrical, electronics or computer engineering, you will all have to sit under the same professor amd take the same exams.

Like data science with AI, connected to robots in manufacturing lines and drones. So I think that the engineering side here, would be much simple
