If your church provides space for 12 step meetings you should be very proud. Jesus is at those meetings and people really do get help.

Great video. You’re absolutely right there needs to be less of a stigma on this particular addiction and more focus on its impact on mental health. In my experience, the other addictions are the result of gambling. It’s the catalyst for the downward spiral. I am a statistic in the suicide attempt due to gambling addiction. The hopeless feeling is worse than any other addiction could understand.

Gambling addiction is fascinating. I think we all have an addiction or 2 but for the life of me I cannot understand the appeal of gambling. I guess that’s why your story is fascinating. Thank you for sharing.

Same. I can understand alcohol addiction because I like to be drunk. Gambling addiction is something that I do not understand. Everybody is different I guess.

Alcoholism is no different than drugs is no different than gambling is no different than overeating. The behavior is but a symptom of a deeper spiritual malady and indicative of trauma that needs to be healed.

@@1Jason I will explain gambling addiction lets say one day you decide to play. You buy a scratch off ticket for $5 and you win $100K... in your mind you have won 100K, but then when you go to your state lottery commission to claim your prize they tax you about 30%, so instead of 100K you only get 70K... since you've already had plans with the 100K and you recall how easy was to turn $5 into 100K, you will now buy more expensive scratch cards to try to win more. What's going to "more than likely happen" is that you will lose 20K of the 70K you had and now you will begin to play more not to win more but to recover the money that you lost(the 20k). You will continue to lose more and more and you will continue to "chase your losses". By this time, or even before, you have made this a habit and you will continue to gamble until you lose everything you have. Scenario 2 - Lets say you lose the first time you try it, you will play again to try to recover what you lost. You can end up losing a lot of money that it will be almost impossible to recover. Most of the times with this scenario eventually you may say: "enough is enough. I'm just going to cut my losses and move on. But years down the road you may remember that you lost money and may get back into gambling to try to recover what you initially lost but more than likely )over 90% probability) you will lose more and more and get your self deeper in the hole.. you will make this a habit and spend your life chasing your losses. My best advice to you would be to stay the way you are, do not even mess with this. Although, the first scenario is more likely to get you addicted (the majority of gambling addicts experience a significant win in the early stage of their gambling), some people can also get hooked trying to recover their losses. The reason you get hooked is because we are addicted to our own hormones/triggers... when we win our brains release dopamine and we feel good... just like you feel good with alcohol and drugs, so gambling is a trap,,, if you play and lose all the time, most people wouldn't gamble. So you lose about 4 times and the 5th time you win, we get addicted to that anticipation and expect a big pay out when that win comes. But in the end, 97% of the times you end up losing more than you win. However you do it so often that when you do the math, you have lost a lot and you've develop an addiction and you want the money that you've stupidly lost back. Then you go back for more and the same happens... now you've lost more and rinse and repeat until you say enough is enough and seek help. This is a very stupid addiction that it is hard to understand, but easy to fall victim of. My advice to you is NEVER mess with this... not even as an experiment...
