In Oct 2019, this video caused me to read one of Allen Carr’s books. That book caused me to stop drinking. 6 months no alcohol today! (Apr 2020) UPDATE (Oct 2020): 1 year with no alcohol on October 11, 2020! UPDATE 2 (Aug 2023): After about 14 months without alcohol I decided I might be able to handle drinking again (Jan 2021). I was fine for a while but then slipped back into old habits. I quit again in Sep 2021 and haven’t had a drink since using the principles of this book. It will be 2 years next month.

This video made me seek out books on quitting drinking as well. It's nice to see a famous person talk honestly and openly about the destructive nature of alcohol and how quitting isn't an insurmountable obstacle, and could very likely be life-changing for many people.

Research shows it takes 2 weeks to make or break a habit. Looks like you've done it! Life definitely gets better but it takes time. I stopped weed and cigarettes within three months of each other. Both 20 year long addictions. My life has improved immeasurably. It's been 10 years now. I prayed to God, used the Alan Carr method and replaced the bad habits with new healthy habits but believe that everyone must find what works for them. Stay strong and vigilant. Everyone has got what it takes to stop and you have proven that by crossing the two week threshold. 💪

Yup, similar experience. Drank for much longer than the expiration date on fun had passed., years too long. Stopped the day after my 26th birthday, almost 32 now. There's nothing new to find there. Absolute zero desire to ever drink again. No struggle, no AA, just naturally tapered off over a couple of years with the growing realisation I was through with it, until it became months between drinking occasions and the final time was my brother's wedding. Not to mention all that money flushed. Life is much fuller and varied now.

I quit drinking nearly 4 years ago. Read the Allen Carr book but eventually relapsed. Best book for me was kick the drink easily by Jason Vale. Absolute game changer in my opinion. It's actually easy to quit drinking, it's what comes after which is the hard bit, you're going to have to relearn how to socialise as an adult, rethink most friendships and then find new hobbies to fill the huge amount of time you've now got because you're neither drunk nor hungover anymore. Good luck to anyone choosing this path

6:30 this was the part that got me the most. I read this book, and it did change my life, and I thought for so long that I needed a drink to "feel nice", but really what was happening was I was relieving my anxiety, and becoming less sociable, and less confident. Since not drinking, I have learned to be more confident, and not need a substance to improve my ability to enjoy myself. Loved this video, big fan of both people in it, I relate to a lot of what Nikki is saying. I knew I had to stop and I finally quit on 12/30/22. My strategy is to watch or read about how terrible alcohol is every time I wanted a drink and it has worked so far. I love that Nikki talked about the book "the easy way to stop drinking" by Allan Carr. I've never read it and now I am curious. It is truly psychological. If you think something is easy then you are more likely to accomplish it than if you think it is difficult. This strategy applies to working out, eating healthy, starting a project.. etc.

I stopped 31/12/22. I am listening to podcasts about how bad alcohol is. I could never stop drinking, when I had one, I would always have more and more, blacking out, hanxiety, getting into arguments with the people I love... It's not worth it

Get the book! I got the audiobook. It’s more than “if you think it’s easy, it’s easy”, but it will change the way you think about alcohol but you simply won’t want to drink by the end of the book. You’ll be literally elated that you’re finally free of alcohol. You’re relieved that you don’t have to drink anymore.

@ I hear ya. That was my initial and long lasting crutch as well. In a social setting, I drank until fully hammered. No middle ground. All because I became talkative, social and funloving. But I guess I got lucky in that I moved and no longer had all my party friends. My interests developed in things away from solely socializing thru drinking. And was amazed how great it felt to wake up on the weekend (and some weekday) mornings without a hangover. Everyone has a their own path to walk and cross to bear. Now on the occasion I tie one on, the next day reminds me how much I don't miss that lifestyle.

The only thing I regretted about quitting drinking, was that I didn’t do it 20 years earlier. The single most important thing about the book is you have to read it from the beginning to the end. Don’t skip. It’s very tempting to want to just go to the end to find the “secret”. It doesn’t work like that. You’ll ruin your chances if you do that. Whatever you do, DO NOT SKIP TO THE END!! Also: read it with an open mind. Don’t think “this guy doesn’t know what he’s talking about”. Better to think: “maybe this guy is onto something here”.

When I was about 30 years old, I smoked at least 20 cigarettes a day. I hated it but couldn't possibly imagine how to live without smoking. In the end, I read the Allen Carr book and immediately quit. A year later, I got pretty drunk and relapsed like a fool. Continued smoking for a few weeks and realized I had to do something about it. I found out that there were Allen Car Quit Smoking workshops, so I joined one (it was a full day session). At the end of the session, the guy leading the session said "if you'd like to, you can leave your cigarettes here" and pointed to the corner of the room where there was a huge pile of cigarette cartons. I threw my cigarettes and my Zippo lighter away and never smoked again. That was 20 years ago. I haven't missed it for a single minute and have never once been tempted to smoke since.

I love when sobriety becomes a topic of discussion. You hear so much about drugs because they are illegal. Alcohol kills more people than drugs. When you quit drinking and reflect on who you were when you were drinking, it's a completely different person that you become after drinking. It really made me realize that I was without a doubt 100% of all the problems in my life. I have almost 3 years sober and still have to remind myself that I can't just have a couple drinks. I have to avoid the first drink. Cuz after the first one you soon realize your 12 deep and theres no stopping. Quitting drinking changed my life.

@@danielgamboa3757 shouldn't. I used to drink 8-10 49.5% shots Daily on an empty stomach. I know I don't want to be in a hospital for days like that again. Basically to keep drinking, that will happen more easily and more often. Each time the pancreas can become infected or spill out an infect other insides. Basically was explained to me the pancreas began to eat itself causing the inflammation. I hope months from now I can have a casual drink. For the sake of not dying, there began a sudden stop to drinking like I used to. Very hard, but tomorrow gonna try meds to help with the craving. Odd enough most nurses said to me to smoke pot.

@coltonblake13
@coltonblake13 3 жыл бұрын
I couldn't tell you. They Basically told me nothing anymore. By I was more then doubling the "weekly ok" amount every day for like 3 years. I would assume that a beer on a full stomach here and there is OK. Well naturally I've heard hard candy sugar helped people or Marijuana but either is replacing a drug with another. There's a couple drugs prescribed. Some shut off the dopamine you get from drinking, so your body only feels drunk or "poisoned" but with no pleasure in the brain. So can rewire the brain to dislike it. On the other side they can give you drugs that make u sick and vomit if you drink anything. Again Basically to tell the brain to associate drinks with negativity instead of pleasure. 7 months though you seem to be doing pretty good. It is very serious though to go back to how we got there. Like, can literally die or loss the pancreas all together. My main nurse told me he sees people come in every month for it until they don't make it. I'd say a beer maybe two on a full stomach once in a good while is fine. Just a shot in the dark though, not medical.

Back in college I took up drinking. We all did. At the end of a particular night of blackout drinking I was sick. I was sick all night. I was at death's door sick. I missed my first class but I finally started to feel like I was going to live. I was laying on my bed and I heard a voice that was not mine. I heard the voice in my head but it was as clear as if someone was speaking to me. The voice said "So, how was that?" I replied "that that was one of the worst nights I have had and one of the worst feelings of my life." The voice said "you never have to feel that way again." I got the message and I never have. I just don't drink.

It is hard, but "Ya NOT dumb". Open your mind, guys! You are your own worst enemy. And fuck the naysayers. Consistency and stubborn perseverance is the way to results. Like most things in this world, it is only as hard as you make it. I smoked cigarettes for a decade +. I fucking loved smoking. Within a single month, two people I loved very much were given a cancer diagnosis. I realized, after what they are going through, that I'd be a selfish piece of shit to smoke another cigarette 100 feet within their vicinity. I enjoyed my last one, then I quit cold turkey 10 years ago. On a side note, my best friend's brother is an alcoholic, and recently been diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy. He is in his early 40's, and can no longer stand upright on his own. Now in a wheelchair. Alcoholism has damaged his nervous system to that point. It's fucking scary what it can do to you eventually. If you ever doubt how much badass potential you could have, think of David Goggins. Search youtube JRE David Goggins.
