Ford has revealed its smallest SUV, the Ford Puma Facelift, The updated model features a refreshed exterior design, enhanced styling, and a completely revamped interior. While retaining the current range of 1.0-liter engines, Ford has announced plans to launch an all-electric Puma version in the European market later this year.
in terms of exterior design, the new Puma closely resembles its 2019 predecessor that revived the nameplate. The front showcases the latest interpretation of Ford's badge, accompanied by newly designed headlights incorporating a distinctive daytime-running light signature. Additionally, there are variations in trim levels, with Titanium models sporting a dechromed front grille and ST-Line versions featuring a more assertive front bumper.
The side profile remains largely unchanged, with only a few updates such as the availability of new alloy wheel designs for added customization options.
The rear end of the Ford Puma appears almost identical to its predecessor. While the lower bumper features a few subtle creases, the overall design remains unchanged. Even the tail lights maintain the exact same look, but considering the previous design was already appealing, this consistent aesthetic is a positive aspect.
Ford has invested significantly in enhancing its best-selling model, particularly in the interior. The new layout introduces a cleaner and less cluttered dashboard with a wraparound effect, slim-line air vents, and a fresh two-spoke steering wheel design.
In line with the current trend, the Puma embraces a streamlined look by reducing physical switches and centralizing controls on the touchscreen. To accommodate this change, the Puma now features larger displays. The digital instrument panel spans 12.8 inches, allowing customization for prioritizing preferred driver information. The infotainment display measures 12 inches and runs on Ford's SYNC 4 software, boasting faster processing and a machine-learning algorithm compared to the previous SYNC 3 setup.
Additional highlights of the revamped cabin include ambient lighting, an acoustic laminated windscreen, an optional panoramic glass roof, and synthetic-leather upholstery on the seats, steering wheel, and armrest. Trim levels offer different colored stitching. Notably, the Puma retains its distinctive drainable boot-mounted MegaBox, a standout feature in Ford's competitive class.
in terms of powertrain, the Puma's powertrain lineup has undergone some streamlining. At its core is a 1.0-litre three-cylinder EcoBoost petrol engine, available with either 123bhp or 153bhp, complemented by a 48-volt mild-hybrid starter-generator. The 123bhp option offers a choice between a six-speed manual gearbox or Ford's seven-speed dual-clutch auto, while the more powerful unit is exclusively automatic.
The top-tier range is also undergoing adjustments, as the esteemed Puma ST bids farewell to its 197bhp 1.5-litre engine and the manual gearbox option. Instead, the performance model will exclusively feature a 168bhp mild-hybrid version of the 1.0 EcoBoost engine, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch auto transmission. Additionally, it receives enhancements like a Ford Performance splitter for increased front-end downforce, unique ST front grilles, and the option of a contrasting gloss-black finish for the roof.
The updates include the introduction of new safety features for the Puma. The model now includes Intersection Assist, Reverse Brake Assist, and Rear Cross Traffic Braking. The latter intervenes if it detects people or other vehicles in motion behind the car.
There are four available trim levels for selection: Titanium, ST-Line, ST-Line X, and the ST.
The Ford Puma facelift is now open for ordering, with prices commencing at £26,590. This marks an increase of approximately £1,000 compared to the previous model and positions it slightly above the Volkswagen Taigo in terms of pricing.
