Hats off to Liza...Conan had to be a very "challenging" person to be around after the Tonight Show mess. Every spouse just wants wants their partner to be happy and I'm sure there didn't seem a way out (in Conan's mind) for awhile. So glad they did this tour, it was a lifesaver for a lot of people!!

The birthday party and the “Who does a meet-and-greet before the show” are separate events. This documentary is about Conan’s live tour during the period of time when he was barred from being on TV after the Tonight Show debacle. (That makes it sound like it was his fault, which of course it wasn’t…anyway.) He’s under a lot of pressure to put on a good show for the fans-and it seems like he did!-and so he isn’t pleased at having to be “on” for a private event just prior to going on stage.

Conan made a deal with NBC to take over the Tonight Show. Guess what. He didn’t ask Jay Leno if this was ok. Except Leno doesn’t whine 24/7.
@whochangedmyscreenname8 ай бұрын
So, first, NBC made the deal. Years ahead of time. They notified Leno for a smooth transition. I legit heard the news nearly five years before Conan took over. NBC did this because of the utter fiasco when Leno and Helen Kushnik worked behind the scenes to push out Carson and make a deal behind Letterman's back. They didn't want a repeat. Leno agreed, Conan agreed, NBC agreed. They gave Leno 15 years on that show. And Leno didn't complain because he got the show out from under David, and then snuck his way back into that time slot less than two years after Conan got the job. So why would he complain?

@@yankrizzuto6760It's really not that complicated, man. If Jay had a problem with anything then all he had to do was express it. I'm sure NBC would've been happy to obligue any request he wanted (this is the same company that gave him his own unprecedented 10pm show just to keep him on NBC). Also, you're comment about whining "24/7" doesn't make any sense: obviously Jay's the one who went back to host the Tonight Show for several more years, why the fuck would he even remotely be the one whining about the way things turned out?

@SomeGuyInNevada245 ай бұрын
Well, here’s how it goes: FOX makes a HUGE offer for Conan in 2004. NBC needs to find a way to match it, which was to give him The Tonight Show in 2009. Leno agrees to the deal in 2004 that he leaves in five years. Leno schmoozes Kimmel so Leno could take 11:35 at ABC when his contract is up. 2009 comes up ; Ferguson starts beating Conan on some weeks and NBC gets nervous. NBC offers Leno cable, which he turns down. NBC then offers 10 pm. Leno agrees. Leno ghosts Kimmel. Kimmel gets pissed. Leno gets 11:35 ratings at 10, and took down nearly every affiliate and Conan with him. NBC decides to stay with Leno and he wins out in the end. Honestly, with the power Jay had in 2004 and 2009. He could have gone to ABC with his entire staff, much like Letterman and Conan did with their networks, and probably could still be on the air today. Instead, Leno went on a rampage of revenge and probably ended up worse for the wear.
