The film "The North is Near". 2019. Production: Russia / "Amur waves" (Amurskie Volny). Genre: Road movie, documentary. Film director and scriptwriter: Roman Super. Cast: Aleksei Makarov, Maksim Belonogov, Sergei Berent, Aleksandr Miakonkikh, Sergei Lapin, Konstantin Gavrilov, Evgenii Skazka.
The plot of the film is based on the second part of "The North is Near" expedition. In the spring of 2019, the daredevils in three all-terrain vehicles covered more than 6000 km along the North-Eastern coast of Russia from Novy Urengoy to Anadyr in 29 days. They chose directions, and powerful Arctic vehicles carried them straight on.
The film begins in Tiksi and shows Russia hidden under snowbanks and the ever-frost layer. In Burlak all-terrain vehicles, the travelers passed places where other vehicles got stuck in the snow forever. While driving through the most remote inhabited localities and weather stations, they got acquainted with the everyday life of locals. They had to go through blizzard, rows of ice ridges and thermokarsts, repaired vehicles at 35°C below zero. The travelers visited the former distributional center of the Gulag, a ship graveyard, abandoned villages and saw true lords of the North - white bears.
As in the days of the earliest explorers, the Far North is far from being a perfect place for people. Severe frost, lack of roads and thousands of kilometers of snowy wastelands among small inhabited islets.
The Russian North is part of world history and culture. This fact makes it more interesting to look at how the film director shows this territory and looks for answers to difficult questions about life, which we all ask ourselves from time to time.

Раз, фильм предназначен для англоговорящих зрителей, тогда и отзыв на ихнем языке. Great movie. Special thanks for the work of the film crew, shooting from the copter and night timelapse with the Northern lights-super. The Russian North is waiting for its turn... we need a comprehensive program to adapt conditions for long-term living in the Arctic...

As a retired Engineer, I'm full of admiration for these vehicles. The basic concept is superb! I've watched a lot of video's of trucks in Russia, off road, and they all have one failing, ultimately, they sink! With these tyres, no matter what, as long as the tyres are intact, they cannot sink. As the comment made, they are the ''Kalashnikov'' of trucks. As for electric vehicles, they're strictly for ''townies,'' you can keep them. .

The Burlak all-terrain vehicle floats well due to the large displacement of the wheels and a sealed boat in the bottom of the body. Additionally, special floats can be installed in the rims. This will allow the all-terrain vehicle to easily keep afloat, even with heavy overload.

@@burlakoffroad On another site, I said, ''When designing a Russian truck, start with a submarine, and add tracks!'' I suppose, you've started with a boat, and added wheels.😊 Have you any plans to scale these machines up, to haul really big loads across country {Say 40--50 tons}? .

We do not have such a goal yet. First, we need to meet the demand in our class of all-terrain vehicles. After all, we first made an all-terrain vehicle for long autonomous travel in the Arctic. Then it turned out that such an all-terrain vehicle is needed by various enterprises. We compete with smaller ATVs and helicopters at the same time.

@@burlakoffroad Thanks for your response. I would think that helicopters are well out of the range of competition, due to their purchase, and operating costs. Anyway, good luck for the future, I hope everything works out for you all.

Anything to avoid building a road, eh comrades? :D
@burlakoffroad
@burlakoffroad 3 жыл бұрын
The joke is clear. But in reality it is not necessary and possible to build roads everywhere. There are huge wetlands and gigantic snow deserts, mountain ranges, kurumniki, ice of the northern seas and rivers. There is no urban life and there will not be, and some economic activity is being conducted. In many territories, it is forbidden to build any roads in principle: in vast reserves, national parks, the size of which is difficult to imagine. On the contrary, wild places are interesting for scientific research and expeditions. And the Burlak all-terrain vehicle is the only opportunity to fully carry out such activities.
