My DADDY Touched me......I am just sick you idiots making irreverent statements like the one you just did. It won't last as long as an engine that would never be allowed by the EPA to be made today and has less horsepower, is nosier, consumes more gas and doesn't run as smooth. Plus like I stated with today's high tolerances in engines the Pentastar has been around for a long time now and has proven to be reliable and will out live the car. So what does it matter if it won't theoretically last as long as the old Inline 6? You know how many old timers say this with ever car engine from 25 years ago.

I will give you a hint since you fail in the comprehension department. When I referenced the EPA that was in regards to explaining why the Automotive industry has been forced to using smaller displacment engines to the pint of many manufasctuers using Inline4's with turbo's. Thus, how could the AMC line 6 be used today when it will never even come close to passing the EPA standards. Sorry that I didn't make up the rules.

In their defense they are what the car would have come with. I think it is fair to run what the manufacturer spect'ed in the first place. You are right that tires are the first upgrade to any vehicle. My FJ Cruiser on stock tires would not have done much better than the Cherokee Classic did. I'm guessing my off road traction control would have helped a bit and I've got a stock locker in the rear. But over all the tires would have been very limiting.

I agree I have 3 Cherokees an 85 with the 2.8 v6 on 33" mt Baja claws a 93 on 31" bfg a/t's and a 98 on 235 bfg a/ts. My 85 has been to Black mountain in Kentucky and bumpus cove in Cherokee national Forest. I don't have any lockers on any of them. The 85 has a factory limited slip. And an np242 transfer case and I feared down to 4.11s from the stock 3.73s. I've been in places that I'm pretty sure have left brown stains afterwards. But it's also driving style. If you're on stock height with street tires you don't creep you've got to have momentum to get over some spots. I'd like to have a go with that trail hawk compared to my stock height 98 with the a/ts.

I say the 91 wins. It did all that with highway tires nonetheless. Give it some off road or all terrain tires and there would be no questions... what I want to see is old wrangler vs new wrangler. There are many similarities from what i have seen between the 90's (early mid and late) and some of the newer ones. I have worked on both in the shop I work at. Maybe make it more even with lift and tires like cooper STT max tires or something of the like

The Cherokee Trailhawk is a great little beast, Fearless Trailhawk is a KZfaq channel that shows it going through some gnarly stuff, that a stock XJ could not handle. We all have a soft spot for the old Cherokee, like most people do for the classic version of most vehicles. But the modern Cherokee, while strange in design, is impressive.

But think about the percentage of XJs that have been modified vs the percentage of new ones that have mods...plus, I'd argue that the Trailhawk package is a factory mod (at least in this scenario). Tucker Garcia If you’re going to go off of that logic then, the Laredo wouldn’t have even been the the top model for 1991. That would be the Briarwood and the Trailhawk is not the top of the line 2019 model. That being said, a Limited Slip Differential was optional in 1991 and the XJ should have that for comparisons sake.

Nice review. I own both a KL and XJ and love them both. Each can go places the other can't, the KL due to it's locker and the XJ due to it's superior clearance. @FlackerMan
@FlackerMan 5 жыл бұрын
True, the XJ has much more potential when it comes to mods. You can put rock rails on a KL and lift it a few inches, but that is about it. However, the vast vast majority of people who buy jeeps spend almost all of their time on pavement and don't do even moderate off-roading. The modern customer wants a smooth ride, good handling, and better gas mileage. Jeep had to deliver on those specs or they would have continued to loose market shares and just be a one trick pony.
@jamesb3729
@jamesb3729 5 жыл бұрын
@J Dennison it's actually were you lost it not FCA. It's called a bloody CROSSOVER, Not a Wrangler. Maybe you ought to read what a crossover is. Also show me another crossover more off road capable than the KL Trail Hawk. It would seem FCA does in fact know what they are doing in regards to targeting there market share. The people that buy these demand independent suspension for on road driving which consists of 90% of it's use.
@jjc4577
@jjc4577 5 жыл бұрын
No question it's a grocery getter now. Also no question it's the most capable vehicle in it's class. You are right though. I stopped being a Cherokee customer when it became a crossover and stopped being a Sport Utility vehicle. I agree that FCA saw the market share being higher selling to those that are buying Chevy Equinox or Ford Escape and hoping for a bit more than an all-wheel-drive car. The Trail Hawk is impressive in its off road competence. That being said, it is inferior in its off-road prowess to anything with live axles. That includes the XJ and the Wrangler. Give me an XJ with no swaybars and I will beat a trailhawk on an off-camber climb any day of the week. I would not, however beat the Trailhawk in road manners, fuel economy, or comfort. The XJ is a pig on the highway when it comes to handling. For most folks, this means the KL is a far better vehicle than even the Liberty was, let alone the XJ.

I prefer older 4x4s over the new ones, especially when it comes to Jeep. The old Jeeps and Ford Broncos require more driver input and with a little finesse can be a lot of fun. The newer stuff is safer and are better on road. Newer SUVs also provide more traction but the old 4x4s make better off-road toys.

With the old ones one can use much more momentum and "gunning it" when needed. Try that in a new SUV and the T/C will brake the spinning wheels so badly that momentum will be killed - even when T/C is turned "off" (which we all know is a practical joke)
