This is the first (of so many) X32 "introductions" that actually explains and builds on the basic operational areas with unambiguous clarity, free of the jargon and references that so many others leave hanging - and all in under 30 minutes. I'm so grateful.

I've had some time on this mixer for live stream broadcasts, fairly basic audio signals, but lots of routing involved. When I heard "this is how I explain it to my trainees..." I knew this would be the lesson I never had. Thanks very much for not only explaining things, but demonstrating practical uses for that feature. Most people that try and train either think everyone knows what they're talking about or they just don't know how to explain it properly. So, every point they make is general and ambiguous, like "you can put, you know, whatever you want here." But, no one knows what "whatever" is and why you would do this - so, no...we don't know. Love the approach to teaching and not just THAT you can, but WHY you can or should way of thinking about when navigating this board. As I mentioned, broadcasting involves a lot of routing and the big picture is really important to establish before you start to execute. Learned a lot here.

Thanks for the encouragement and feedback. I agree that many people either stay too ambiguous or go too far in depth. Let me know if you have other topics you are interested in learning about and I can either point you to other videos or make new ones.

Hey I just wanna say. 6 months ago I got a job at a church and the guy told me they have a x32. I was a bedroom producer with zero experience in the real world audio application. This video was the first one that made me familiar with the board. Now I can work on this board and even process on my daw during service too. I just want to say thank you.

I guess it is nice that the X32 has that button to be sure if something needs to stay out of the LR mix, but you could jus as well keep the fader down (why set it to 0?) and add it to the monitor mixes (which are prefader) like you would do on any (analog) console.

The last few minutes are the most important to me, all before very interesting and worth, now I can research how to connect my external reverbs and compressors and so on... Your way to explain is slow enough and with excellent timed pauses so I can follow and understand the routing. What the hell, they have had the chance to make it more simple, but I think their ambition was to make it as complicated as possible - but - to be honest - flexible as possible... Than you for sharing 👍

Great tutorial. A good sound tech makes a huge difference in the overall mix and quality of sound. I have been playing drums for different churches during the past 20 years and I have worked with the best and worst sound techs for worship services. I know that a church can have some of the best equipment available but if you don't have someone who knows how to use it correctly the service could be a disaster as far as the music goes. My hat's off to all of you good sound techs out there, trust me, you are greatly appreciated! I have gone from a large church with one of the best sound techs I have met who uses two of these X32 boards with a very good worship team to a very small church with a sound tech/guitarist who thinks the only answer to a good mix is more gain. Ouch! Keep us in prayer as this is a small church that is redoing everything from the ground up and I want to help them in any way I can, one way would be the sound quality in worship. I believe your tutorials will help me do this. Thank you so much.

@@AllamHouse Thanks, everything went well. It was a festival with 8 Ukrainian artists so I had the chance to get to know many different things. Had to figure out how to assign effects and their settings like tap tempo to the buttons and channels and also had to do the routing for streaming audio via a matrix which might be covered in one of your other videos. Luckily I also had an engineer familiar with the board to help me setting it up but I feel it is quite self explanatory as well. As I will be working on Yamaha consoles and originally work in studios with SSL duality I guess I will forget everything I learned until I have to work on this console again. In this case I will definitely come back to your channel. Keep up the good work and take care! Greetings from Germany

This was really good. It was slow enough and has no irritating music so I was able to go through it with my German friends and was able to stop and explain things step by step. Really nice. The only thing I did not understand or missed was how you route the desk outputs to the XLR out sockets. I am a bit confused between moving the output sliders and mixing to the Main vs allocating a slider to the XLR out.

Hi. Quite informative and useful. Thanks. I like the way you explain step by step. I only have the manual in front of me so some of the things are lost on me until I get in front of the X32. BTW, at 20:09, when you turn off the "click track" to main, couldn't we just *not* push the fader up on Input Channel Bank but still send it to the mix bus? Thanks again
@AllamHouse
@AllamHouse Жыл бұрын
If you are using a monitor that is Pre Fader, you can leave the fader down and just turn it up in the monitor send. If you are running a Post Fader monitor it will need to have the input fader up and removed from the Stereo LR Bus so that it will properly feed into your monitor.

Thank you; this was very, very helpful. Any info on the CAT5 connection that you can elaborate on?
@AllamHouse
@AllamHouse 21 күн бұрын
Assuming you are talking about connecting to a digital stage box, Just make sure to use a proper shielded Cat5 cable and connect to either AES50a or AES50b. You would need to adjust your input and output settings according to what you have connected. In terms of the network connection on the back, that is designed for connecting to a standard network usually providing remote access to the console from the sound tech with a tablet or the band on stage with phones to mix their monitors.

As far as you know, the eight output faders can be configured as input faders to have 24 input faders at hand at the same time without having to change layers??? It would be useful for live. With the compact model it is possible by pushing 1-8 and 9-16 at the same time even if it does not appear in the manual.

This is really helpful! If you want to add effects to the mains (say a reverb to a vocal in the mains) would you just send the reverb to the vocal channel with sends on fader?
@AllamHouse
@AllamHouse Жыл бұрын
The short version is you select the BUS that relates to your desired FX rack, hit Sends on Fader and then build a mix to go into that specific FX Rack. This is similar to building a mix for any other BUS (like a monitor mix). Deselect the Sends on Fader and then, go to the AUX FX layer on the left and you can bring up the return (effected sound) and this will then be heard in your main mix. The longer version is housed in this video that walks through the different types of FX available on the X32 and how to implement them towards the later half of the video.

Great video. Thanks. Very helpful guide. Question about FX at the end of video. You have Fx Sends on the right of board. Fx return on the left of the board. Both have fader sliders. Which one do you adjust to hear more or less of the the Fx such as reverb in the house speakers?
@AllamHouse
@AllamHouse 3 жыл бұрын
You actually have three options (maybe 5 if we get technical). Assuming your gain structure on your inputs channels are set properly the basics are this... (1) set the MixBUS fader to unity (0) (2) set the FX return (left side) to unity (3) select the MixBUS and hit sends on fader to build the mix going into the bus using the instrument faders. As you increase the fader of the normal instrument into the bus, you will get more of the effect returned into your house mix. Once you have a mix built, you could either turn up the instrument fader that is sending to the Bus, you could turn up the overall bus fader to send more input into the effect this bringing more volume out, or you could just turn up the return side. At a basic level, all three will offer the same result. More advanced techniques would include using compression on the send or return side or the volume on the actual FX rack itself.

@AllamHouse

Any changes made to the channel strip of an input channel will impact that channel everywhere it goes. If you are mixing a monitor, or FOH and make a change it will be across all mixes. That being said, you can choose a tap point for your input to be Pre-EQ when going to a BUS and this would take the signal before the channel strip and send it to that BUS. This might be helpful if you are sending the signal to an IEM and you want the raw signal going back to that BUS while allowing your channel strip to be heard in your main mix.

Here is a short, 1 min. Idea that explains the difference between a MixBUS and a Matrix. They each serve their own purpose and you just need to determine which option is the best for your setup and tech team. In terms of you input needs, you will want to use a DI Box for each instrument to convert the signal from a 1/4” to an XLR cable.

Hello, can u give us some info on why the system signal goes on and off sometimes? The power doesn’t go off it’s just the signal. And where can we starting looking when the system is making bad signal noise?
@AllamHouse
@AllamHouse 2 жыл бұрын
Give me a little more info about ‘the signal’. Do you have mics plugged directly into the back of the console? Are you using a digital stage box that connects across Cat5 cable using the AES50 ports? Are you talking about a signal that is coming out of the console like a house mix or live stream mix?

Still haven't found what i'm looking for, a video which will show me how to set up a mic for flat EQ no reverb, no effects, etc. I do audio at a church and the quick start guide is useless.

Thanks for reaching out. I’m sorry your questions are not covered in this basic overview of the way the console is layer out. To get started all you need to do is: 1) Connect a mic to input 1 (XLR) on the back of the console. I recommend using an XLR cable so the mic can move around. 2) select channel 1 on the console 3) use the top-left know (Gain) to set the input level so your mic signal is reaching -10 at the loudest point of the signal being produced. 4) turn the channel 1 fader up towards unity 5) turn the master fader up as needed for the venue. By default the channel strip effects (EQ, Gate and Compressor) are turned off. No reverbs or outboard FX are setup. If your board is not currently at the default settings, you can go to Routing > Input (on the screen) and confirm that channels 1-8 are set to “local 1-8”

What you will do if the Backing track its not getting in to the monitors?
@AllamHouse
@AllamHouse 3 жыл бұрын
Backing tracks need to be treated like any other instrument. Select the monitor send, hit sends on fader and then turn the fader up for yourself tracks. You will want to know if your monitor is setup as prefader (in most cases) vs post fader to make sure everything works well for your musicians. Here’s a video about monitor la that might help. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/sN2JlrGayq-3dmg.html

I'm new to this. When you say monitor, do you mean speaker?
@AllamHouse
@AllamHouse Жыл бұрын
If I’m saying monitor, this refers to either a floor wedge speaker that is aiming back at your band so they can hear certain things while playing… OR in-ear monitors which are individual mixes being sent into headphones for each band member. If I say PA (public address), FOH (front of house) or House Mix, then I am referring to the speakers that the audience is hearing in a live performance. I hope that helps. Feel free to ask other questions.

Question on the mix buses, when you send an input to the a Bus is it post fader? Can you configure the input bus send to be pre-fader? Thanks so much!
@rpiboy
@rpiboy 3 жыл бұрын
so reading the full manual, it seems like Buses are Pre-fader and Groups are Post Fader, and then DCA groups are a shortcut for quickly managing total level of a mix of channels (as you explained in one of your videos). Do I have that right?
@AllamHouse
@AllamHouse 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, but with the update of firmware V4.0 and newer there are more features available so you do not have to pre-set your busses in the settings window anymore. You can now do it bus by bus which is a great benefit and you have the ability to determine different set points for buses as well... IE: Pre-EQ for a monitor bus to send the exact signal you get from an input back to their monitor instead of the EQ needed for FOH.

@@AllamHouse is the manual updated with that kind of information? The manual doesn't seem to address that level of nuance. What's the best way to learn the details, watch all your videos? :-) FYI my church just got a compact to replace an aging analog board. We are also live streaming now (like everyone) and I also have an AM transmitter and outside speakers. I have a shot-gun mic for ambient sanctuary sound so I really need/want at least three unique mixes (FOH, Stream, External Speakers) plus occasionally a monitor wedge at FOH.
@AllamHouse
@AllamHouse 3 жыл бұрын
I doubt the manual has been updated. usually they put out "release notes" with each release, but nobody wants to read through all of those. In terms of your separate mixes, I would recommend have two main mixes... FOH and then the stream (which also can be sent through a matrix to the foyer or other external speakers). A wedge for the stage would need to be specific to what is needed to supplement any room and stage sound.

midas dl16 vs behringer s16. Thoughts?

I would prefer the Midas as it has nicer preamps included. You can have a Behringer console and improve its sound with the Midas preamps. The sound is determined by the preamps the input plugs into.

I am using version 4.02. Make sure you backup your scene by saving it to your console or to a thumb drive. Your current settings will be cleared out when you upgrade, but the scene can be immediately reloaded to get you right back where you were. also note, the IP address in Settings tab will need to be reset as well.

BEWARE NOTE: Behringer has a major problem with its products documentation manuals in them using proprietary PDF X software, just has a nice long email session with them and this is my findings response: I believe the problem is you are using a proprietary PDF X software and it is a password protected doc. Most all pdf docs will open in acrobat pro and have full edit, but yours does not and has a password protection on if. I do not use any other PDF creation software, do to them not having the functions that Adobe Acrobat has and does such as copy, scan and insert functions that all others do not have. SO whoever created this manual in PDF X software, password protected this and all your other PDF docs created by it. SO yes your downloads for manuals are password protected by its creators. In conclusion this is a major problem, so no one can copy text or pics to create quick reference user notes to learn on using behringer products.
