A tune from Allan Holdsworth's album Wardenclyffe Tower arranged for symphony orchestra by Kostas Rekleitis. He is a freelancer composer and orchestrator based in Santa Monica, Los Angeles.
Equally comfortable with music beyond the concert hall, Kostas has written music for theatre, art exhibitions, and made numerous orchestral arrangements; his main interest lies on art song where he combines poetry and music.
This work is for educational, non-profit, purposes and it can used towards any kind of fusion and orchestra research.

Allan created some wonderful compositions well suited to be arranged for full orchestra.

I could take albums of orchestral arrangements of Allan's music. Maybe with guest soloists too. Great job on this.

Fantastic. I really believe that this is what he was hearing in his mind when he was composing, given his love for Bartok, Debussy and others and his latest work Flat tire… he would love it, I believe.

Thank you for doing this arrangement! I particularly liked how you treated Allan's solo as an integral part of the composition. It's hard to tell how Allan himself would have reacted to hearing this, but I can't help but think that he would have found it flattering. Allan of course enjoyed orchestral music a lot, he would often cite Debussy, Ravel and Bartok as his favorite composers, and in fact his main inspirations as a composer himself. So in a sense, this brings Allan's music full circle. Allan did not pursue formal study of music, he didn't even read or write music beyond a totally basic level, and by his own admission could never have written out orchestral parts himself. So it's great that you have done it, and created something original along the way.

Thanks for your message! I really appreciate it. Fusion is not my field of expertise and I’ve recently discovered AH’s music. Figures like him must be studied and celebrated, so this arrangement was an effort to study one of his work in detail. As the solo flies across all sections I tried for each phrase to find a suitable character, and yes I can clearly hear Debussy, Ravel, and Bartok on his melodic lines and harmony.

@@KostasRekleitis Just a note on the term "fusion": I understand why it is applied to Allan's music, but he himself did not consider his music as part of the fusion genre. When Allan thought of typical fusion (like GRP released) , he thought of elevator music. In harmonic terms, his music had very little in common with the fusion music of his time. In terms of study, you might be interested to know that there recently was an entire PhD dissertation devoted to Allan by Nicholas Freer of Melbourne Uni, called "Principles of Harmonic Organisation in Selected Compositions", which can be freely downloaded. Thanks again!

@@aharchives Thank you! I'll check the dissertation, actually i've just saw your message, I missed it. I didn't know the term fusion can relate to elevator music (a music that cannot lift you!), always thought of this 'jazz rock" I've been observing but not studied during the years, thanks again

Astounding. Another one you might check out is "Sundays" from "With a Heart in my Song" - I think that would work well orchestrally. This is really lovely.

@@KostasRekleitis Hey Kostas, I really appreciate and respect so much what you have done to make this super complex arrangement from a musician like Allan. You really are a special person for doing it. This is a piece that gave me goosebumps up and down my spine, especially Allan's solo. Taking this piece to an orchestral level is the best ever tribute to this guitar/musician hero of our time.

Oops... whenever I listen to AH, I thought about how the musical themes would be transcribed for orchestra, full of extreme legato techniques and with a surreal scale. You did something extraordinary. I'm a complete outsider to play any instrument, but I appreciate works by different authors and musical expressions. I encourage you to offer a project to AH fans who are quality musicians to translate the legacy into other spheres of art. Thanks!😊

Wow, I've been waiting a long, long time to hear something like this, feeling that a lot of Allan's compositions would work well in an orchestral setting. And this arrangement goes some way in showing his harmonic brilliance. I hope to see/hear more of this kind of thing. Looking Glass, Distance Vs Desire , Home to only name a few, Thanks so much for doing this.
