Just found this , how very sad , he was a true legend, got Allan to sign a few things for me a few years ago , looked very old , also got Dick Johnson to sign some shirts and cars at his race car garage, hope Dick is alright, as have no open shop signing days anymore , true heroes and gentlemen of old school racing.For Only Real Drivers 👍

I had the great pleasure of meeting Alan Moffett in 1974 when he was here in Southeastern Michigan in a place called Waterford Hills track which I took some pictures with my instamatic at the time I was only about 8 to 9 years old my father was a contractor doing the paddock Restorations at the track and it just to get away from him that particular day he told me to go watch the cars race what a gracious man he was annoying friends that have worked with him in Australia for Ford is great development in the vehicles that he produced help reduce was excellent I have to say the last time when he was here in Michigan I got to see him and I showed him the instamatic photographs that I had steal from all those years yellowing yellowing but still there sign two of them for me which I have in my collection I'll never leave also he signed two of the vehicles that I had that I had brought with me of course they were Mustangs when was The Brute fabrochet Mustang and the other one was the Coca-Cola Mustang that I had gotten purchased from a shop not too far away from where the track is the deals in collector cars in Michigan from what I understand from all the people that I know It Forward he was a fantastic human being and a great engineer I wish you the best I hope there's a cure for this disease cuz it cost my parents tell my friends in Australia consider that a National Treasure you wash broccoli and number years ago Brock you watched him a number of years ago another great treasure I could say I've known a few people that have worked in Australia they came back to the Southeastern Michigan area my neighbor across the street at the time used to work for General Motors and he worked in body development he worked on a Corvette he knew Leo very well I met him one year when he was here going to be sad when he passes both of them Sirius Legends those are some serious Legends

Allan Moffat has and always be my racing driver hero, followed motorsport since 1970. thanks to him I became a car racing fan, many thanks to you for your time in motorsports, best wishes to you.

Similarly - and sadly - Allan will never read this, but he’s entirely responsible for keeping me and my brother together following our separation by the untimely, early death of our parents. My brother (older) used to drive to where I was living to take me to the car races to see my idol, Allan, wherever he was racing in Victoria. Initially, the Mustang, then the Falcons. My brother and I still enjoy our love of car racing all these decades later - and we’re as close as any two brothers can be (him early 70’s - me mid 60’s). Thanks Allan and all the very best to you.

Yes Alan was amazing. And by the way Melbourne is still the auto and motorsport capital of Australia, always has been .....not bathurst.

Are you sure it was a Team Lotus Cortina GT......... Moffat could never get a factory drive until Ford Australia gave him the GTHO drive. Moffat made his name being overlooked by the Ford Factory team in England and then buying his Cortina GT off a showroom floor and embarrassing the factory cars with 50 less HP than they had. Ford tried to get Moffat disqualified but the scrutineers found his car to be big standard and completely untouched ...... he was just a better driver than all the British and Euro hot shots.

@@Rassskle I don't doubt the history. I checked my photos again. It was a left hand drive Lotus Cortina twin-cam with "Team Lotus" in matching yellow paint down the green side stripe. And I am certain he raced it again in candy red at Sandown. Where it came from I can't say. I thought Canada or USA because of the LHD

@@yasi4877 I don’t have access to my uncles books and my own are long gone..... can’t find anything worthwhile on the internet except..... he did race a Cortina GT in America before coming back to Australia with his Trans Am Mustang. Cant even find anything in Wiki about the failure of the Jimmy McKeon / Moffat Cortina in the USA. Now that was a farce...... McKeons Cortina was the quickest in the world and Moffat by far the quickest driver..... should have dominated in America but on the test day for Ford executives some idiot had put packing bolts for transport in the fly wheel but hadn’t told anyone. The flywheel seperated and almost cut Moffats legs off........just missed him. Ford slammed the car and refused to reconsider when they discovered the problem with the wrong bolts. lol

@@Rassskle K: The event was at Calder on 24 Jan 1965 when Norm Beechey debuted his blue Neptune Racing Team Mustang, the first to race in Australia replacing his S4 EH Holden PK-751. Beechey comfortably blew off Jane's 4.2 Mk2 Jag on the back straight before retiring with overheating. Although he won, Jane retired the Jag from racing after that event and switched to a white Shell Racing Team Mustang which made it's debut at Sandown on 21 Feb 1965. More photos of Moffat's #2 Lotus Cortina at the Calder event reveal that it was RHD. It had a transfer stuck on the rear quarter that read "English FORD Line" which suggest a Canadian or US origin. The Lotus green side stripe had a thin yellow pin stripe bisecting it with the words "Team Tricon" in yellow on the green stripe at the driver's door. At a guess I would say this was a Lotus Cortina that he obtained in Canada or the States. He raced it at the Sandown event finishing behind Jim McKeon's Neptune Racing Team Lotus Cortina and ahead of Bob Jane's white Lotus and Pete Geoghegan's black Lotus. I saw it one more time painted bright red at another Sandown event. After that he raced a Mustang. I don't have photos of that car but it may have been red to distinguish it from the other Mustangs.

@@yasi4877 If correct, then you mean left hand drive, not right. I don’t know the car you are talking about, but always believed the car he brought to Australia was his English Touring Car that he used to embarrass the English Ford Factory team and drivers. It appears he left that car behind then and bought another in the US........unless the car he raced in England was actually purchased in the USA where it would have been much cheaper to buy. The car he brought to Australia was incorrectly billed as the quickest Cortina in the world. The car itself was basically show room standard Lotus Cortina...... Moffat was just a freak driver. McKeons car was much quicker but Moffat was still the quicker driver. Was a shame about the travel bolts used for shipping and the idiot who never told them what he had done. McKeons Cortina had the potential to dominate in the US against the V8 ‘s

I’m also 25 years old and i agree. I always watch the older 70’s and 80’s racing, I’ve been to the fathers day meeting at eastern creek several times (first time was in 07). Dad often tells me stories about going to oran park, standing at the fence cheering on Moffat and Johnson while booing and giving Brock and Brock supporters the finger and a bunch of shit. I’ve been fortunate enough to have met Mr Moffat several times from a young kid up till recently. I’ve always addressed him as Mr Moffat or Sir. I still remember the time i brought the model of his Le Mans Porsche, i took it straight over to have him sign it. I sat it on the counter and opened up the box. Mr Moffat stood there looking at the model with a smile, reminiscing. I took a few cars over that day including a model of his brut and coke mustangs. It was a rather special moment for myself. I recall him also mentioning a younger collector thats a fan of him, knows and follows him and also how respectful i was

In saying that lengthy reply i never got to meet Peter Brock but i got to meet James maybe not even 6 months following Peter’s death. I had a photo taken behind James ute and had a chat before my dad asked if he would he able to sign my shirt (i was maybe 8 at the time), James was happy to oblige before dad said can you sign it with “son of a legend”. James looked at us asking are you sure? Like yes absolutely please if thats alright. Could see him tearing up, could just see how much it meant to him and how no one else would think of asking. Later on in the day he finished 3rd, knowing that we headed out to the back of the pits and bumped into James again. We congratulated him on the result and then i had a photo taken with him both of us holding the trophy

Good on you Young Blokes, History is Knowledge , he was ahead of his times And I am a Holden Man , I didn't mind Him , he was a Great competition , and When he went into the Media , He Was Brillant , and at Brocky death He showed a Soft side of him, he Was upset and said you new him As Brocky , I new him as My Friend Peter , that made him more of man than He always was .

@@markjones464 as much as a ford guy as i am and growing up hearing dad’s stories i hated Brock myself. But growing up you recognise talent. Both Moffat and Johnson were Brock’s biggest rivals and there was no better racing than the battles between them. There was always room, rivalry and respect between them. I wish i got to watch those guys race back in the day, I’m lucky enough to have met some of the older drivers and watch the cars do some laps or see them up close. It’ll be a big loss when we lose mr Moffat, atleast he will get to meet his brother again and all his old racing pals. Same as when Dick departs. It saddens me just thinking about it, I’ll be a mess on the day

Lost my mum to dementia in 2017, i think it just hit a nerve, and yeah we all grow old, its just sad to this happen to our heros.

@@yasi4877 Absolutely correct. Anyone getting sucked into donating to blood suckers to pay for cancer research deserves to be fleeced. Plenty of autopsies show dementia is primarily caused by localised brain die off attributed to loss of blood flow in a specific area of the brain generally caused by blood clot in the brain. Gee, I wonder where all these blood clots are coming from?

We have the cures for dementia and almost all cancers...... but too much money in not curing them. Christ, they make about $1 Billion a day from radiation treatments in the USA alone, do you think they want to stop that ?
