The big question is: Should I be a generalist or specialist? Should you niche down to a specific subject? It applies to every creative industry: whether you’re starting out in 3D, video games, film, commercials, design or VFX.
In this career talk, Allan McKay talks to Scott Rosekrans, a VFX Supervisor and Virtual Production Supervisor for Realtime Group at Zoic Studios. Since joining the Zoic Studios internship in 2007, Scott grew as a visual effect artist and into a VFX Supervisor.
Since 2020, Scott has been working to integrate Unreal Engine into every facet of the facilities post production workflow, from previz and on-set virtual production to final renders. He is also Unreal Authorized Instructor Partner for Epic Games.
Here, Scott talks about the wide number of specialities for VFX Artists, the importance of innovation and experimentation. He gives advice and tips on growth and whether you should - and when you should - niche down.
Whether you’re starting out in VFX or a junior VFX artist learning how to break into the film industry - this video is for you! Listen to this chat with Allan McKay and Zoic Studios’ Scott Rosekrans for this “Visual Effects How To.”
