Allen Bradley Cascading Timers for Auto Sequencing

Cascading timers can be used to sequence through complex timed steps. Using the TON timer on delay instruction and some Examine On and Examine Off instructions, you can tie multiple timers together. This ladder logic works in Studio 5000, RsLogix 5000, RsLogix 500, and Connected Components Workbench.

As a junior programmer who also uses AB Studio via my own company as a Field Service Engineer and who also had no real formal training in AB Programming but learning on the job with my senior engineer these tutorials are very well explained in step and easy to understand and follow. Showing and doing each thing step by step helps to mentally understand in sequence how you are programming and making the new programmed bits and tags. And when you are teaching something, it helps to do things so someone else lesser inexperience can follow and understand. So thanks!

Tim, love the videos, I personally think what you do is really helping the community, I recommend your videos to everyone who's interested in PLC's... Out of interest do you think you could some videos on the following topics?: - ControlLogix redundancy systems/setup - Control logix safety plcs (im unsure myself on how these would fit in to most processes) - SIS/SIL/SIF programming techniques and understanding (simple) - Control logix communications (very long distances remote operation i.e. 150 miles) - General professional control logix programming techniques like a 10 minute quick tips video (i.e. having a digital input ladder rather than straight into a program, tag scoping, functions/complexity versus maintainability)

Ctrl+W as a shortcut for Create New Tag. I cut my teeth on RS500 and quick keys, and my coworkers are always annoyed when they borrow my machine to program something and they fill up a rung with instructions so quickly XD

I'm writing a couple of rungs of logic with 2 timers. The 1st timer will turn on the output after it has completed it's done cycle. Timer 2 will start after timer 1 becomes done. What's happening is that timer 2 never times out or go to done. What could be wrong

A few ideas...are you using the same timer more than once? Is something resetting that timer once it is done?

If your EN has a 1 in it and it isn't getting done, then chances are something else is writing to it.

How do the timers not need a reset?
