Was born in Hoboken and basically grew up there. Sucks I probably won’t be able to afford to live there in the future, and if I was, it’s just a shell of its past.

Original nickname, "The Miracle Mile" Yep, my hometown, the greatest little city in America. Home of Frank Sinatra, Pia Zedora, and many more. Dig it, the best pizza on Earth, the best Italian deli's, who make the best damn Mutz on the planet, restaurants with every kind of food imaginable. The nightlife is incredible, music has always been at Hoboken's core, amazing bands. If you don't have the best time ever, I'll give you your money back, LOL . I live in Maine now, It's nice, always loved nature, but I'm going back this coming Summer for a visit, or perhaps?

By the early 1980s, Hoboken was pretty run down. I remember my friend telling me how his brother just bought a condo there. I thought he was crazy. But by the end of the 80s, the waterfront area was totally renovated, and by the end of the 90s the whole city was transformed into a yuppie paradise.

Hello, I stayed at the YMCA in Hoboken years ago when I used to Ship out with the Merchant Marines I had to take the Sub Way to 14t Street in NYC to the Union Hall where I got the jobs to work on the Ships...later on I moved to 15th to the Seamans and International Guest House in New York City, back then it was 25 Dollars a night....now I believe is about 95 Dollars a night, now I'm retired.....John from North Carolina.

Had friends who moved from Manhattan to Hoboken. We went out to their new place for dinner once they got settled in--they had an entire floor to themselves although it was a 3 or 4 floor walk-up railroad style but it felt safe and it was clean (compared to Manhattan), a quick commute into the city where both of them worked. I guess they saved enough (this was a long time ago before rents were quite so high) because after a couple years, they'd saved enough to put a down pymt on a nice house in Forest Hills. Maxwell House still had a working plant there so you could often smell ground coffee in the air. I thought it was a really good place to live, close enough to the city but detached enough to feel like a citified suburb.

When people say things like "Hoboken is not in NY but feels like NY"...it feels almost derogatory. It's like what they're really trying to say is that "Hoboken is so great, you wouldn't even know you're in New Jersey"...

I'm from Hoboken, & knew it back in the day, as late as the 1970's, Hoboken has an awful amount of: Rats, Roaches,& Waterbugs. A Waterbug looks like an extremely large roach with a hard covering, so hard that if a 200 pound person stepped on it, it would not die immediately. However, I have a lot of fond memories of Hoboken, such as Schoenings Bakery, Biggies on Madison St., Mickey Finn's, Howell's Furniture, Geismars Dept Store, Queen's Dept. Store, Campus Records, Policastro's "Marie's" Bakery. Town Lunch on Washington St., The signage said "Colonial",.Fourth St. Park, & lots more.

Interesting video and city! Although the first ice cream cone is actually from St. Louis. “Another claimant, Italo Marchiony, actually received a patent in 1903 for a device to make edible cups with handles. However the patent drawings show the device as a molded container rather than the rolled waffle seen at the Fair. Although paper and metal cones were used by Europeans to hold ice cream and pita bread was used by Middle Easterners to hold sweets, the ice cream cone seems to have come to America by way of ‘the Pike’ (as the entertainment midway of the St. Louis World’s Fair was called).” This is from the Library of Congress.

I Love Hoboken. BUT! It use to be a more family community place. People have forgotten that they burned down apartments to get people out! Arson was rampid! This was done to drive out middle class and low income people. Now it is a town of only rich people who can afford the rent and high priced condos. Even The Clam Broth House, Maxwells and so many wonderful Italian, Spanish, Fish markets and bread markets are done.

I was wondering if the strange history of its name would be covered. Sharing a name with a suburban section of Antwerp, Belgium, it kinda feels like it’s namesake back in Flanders-part of a larger metro area, but quite distinctive all the same. However, it wasn’t originally called after that Flemish town; apparently it just happened to sound similar, and was then adopted by Belgian expats.

For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son. Whoever puts his trust in God’s Son will not perish but will have life that lasts forever. For God did not send His Son into the world to say it is guilty. He sent His Son so the world might be saved from the punishment of sin by Him. Jesus Christ is The Way, The Truth, and The Life. No one comes to the Father except through Him. If today you hear His voice harden not your hearts. Now is the time to be saved!

@Alexi Barona I prefer The Heights, although it is now becoming overly gentrified. I have lived in NYC and San Francisco, The Heights is by far the most diverse place I have ever lived. Hoboken is a place to live if you only want to be around other people like you. I wasn't like that years ago. Money homogenizes places. It's sad people are being squeezed out if the Heights and the south end of Union City. O like that my property value is higher, but the coolness of the most diverse neighborhood in the country is going to suffer. I don't object to the hip pizza place on Palisade, where people line up for 4 dollar slices. It was bound to happen. I do have a problem with tearing down older housing stock, that has character and replacing it with generic modern, souless construction that new people prefer. You move to the hood because it's cool, but then destroy it because you want to remake it to your ideal. People need to mix more. I have awesome neighbors from all over the world, from all economic backgrounds. It's hard to find a place like that.

The projects were built many moons ago from before all the 7953 condos were built. And they weren’t built for segregation it wasn’t like that then, it wasn’t filled with African Americans if that’s where we are going, look back on videos of Hoboken and the projects. It’s not like how they can up and root it elsewhere

Mark Richards The gentrification is going to continue. Today’s college-educated young people want to be in urban areas, as opposed to their parents and grandparents who flocked to the suburbs. You’re gonna see in a lot of cities the poor and working class squeezed out (even in Newark).
