Highly underated reviewer. His experience over the decades in Hifi audio comes through. I have had bad experiences with reviewers who are doubling up as marketers nowadays. People consume their content for entertainment rather than information. Not in the case of Hans. We need reviewers like him to separate snake oil from actual value. Plenty of which happens in the Audio equipment markets.

Update, I found that Allo does have the 4GB version of the raspberry pi in stock. I ordered mine with MoOde and the Nirvana power supply. Unfortunately it cannot be used as a ROON endpoint out of the box. A quick Google search later I found the instructions to download and install the needed software to make the Boss2 a ROON endpoint. I found the Boss2 to be an incredible buy. I connected it to my Yamaha RX-A2A receiver in my den. Listening with my Klipsch RP-8000f speakers I simply love the sound. That’s for the review.

This is the 2nd review that rated this comb unit high, but its still out of stock and the Allo company does not respond to my inquiry. Id be leary now even if it came back

That Boss 2 case looks better than the one that comes with the Allo USBridge Sig.. I hope you could review that too.

As always, Hans, a very thorough and clearly presented review. I've been considering a Raspberry Pi based streamer/network player for some time, and just more than a week ago, I "pulled the trigger," ordering an ALLO BOSS2 Player. ALLO shipped the unit very promptly, but, following its arrival, I have been completely stymied in my attempts to get the unit up and running. My operational ignorance of the Rpi, combined with the near complete absence of any documentation, may have combined into the perfect audiophile storm. Bah. I've just put in a request to ALLO, at their support forum, and look forward to some daylight on the situation. I wonder if you might have any suggestions?

Hans, I want to order the Boss2 Streamer, but when I go to the web page I'm not sure what kind of WIFI dongle I need to get. My choices are, None, BGN, or Dual Band ACBGNA? And concerning the SD Card, my choices are, Moode Audio or DietPi + ALLO GUI. I'm not sure what they even are? I do want that power supply. Also, how do I make sure that the Boss2 streamer comes pre-assembled? Also, my router is 2.4 GHz. Will the Boss2 Player work with it. And will I be able to choose my music through the Boss Player on my MacBook Pro? Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Rich

Hans, would you say that the sound quality is determined more by the streaming portion, the DAC portion, or the power supply portions of this and other streaming devices? Could you rank those or any other variables, please? I'm still using a Google Chromecast Audio device in conjunction with an iFi iPurifier into a Topping E30 DAC, then into my A/V receiver's analogue inputs. I'm looking to improve my system by buying a good integrated amp, possibly the Anthem STR Integrated, with room correction ($4,500 USD). But I need to know what my sources will be prior to this purchase, if I decide to go this route. Any suggestions on how to proceed? There are so many variables these days that it causes me to buy practically nothing. Anyone with some knowledge, feel free to chime in.

Hi Hans, thanks for this video. I recentaly got the Boss2 DAC with my own Pi 4 and also the Nirvana. It certainly is a step up from my old HifiBerry DAC+. Now do you think it's a good idea to use the Nirvana to power both Boss2 and Pi by removing the jumper or to use the Nirvana for Boss2 only and power the Pi from regular switching power supply or even battery pack?

Is there a limit to the size of an external usb hard drive that can be used with this product?

Using pi with Volumio usb out to DAC, must say it is sounding very good. Tested against Auralic mini and could not hear any difference...

Hello, Hans Thank you for another great video. Can sound quality of Boss 2 be compared with Orchard PecanPi if use separate power connections for dac and computing in both cases? In review of Pecan Pi you rated it to the top of your ref setup 2, and even to setup 1 in comments, and Allo Boss 2 as middle of 2. But you also stated once that affordable hifi solutions technologies improving fast, maybe today they can be considered as very similar? Or Pecan still higher in your rating?
