naw, the way he drives, things wouldn't last... he's lucky he gets new trucks constently to drive..... sure, you arnt feeling those hits, but the truck is... speed in ruts kills welds, and axles... another thing wial off roading, if your already at everything the truck can give (4x4 posi front and back) when you get stuck, your stuck... there is no option anymore to push the posi, and crawl out, only option left is to go get another truck..... in other words, you put the truck to it's limit right off the bat, and you get into worse holes, without realising it, wharas if you start in 2wd, then 4x4, and finally when that stops moving you, lock the posi and get the f out via crawling back the way you came.

That only works to a certain degree Jesse. Eventually you'll have someplace you get to with the 4WD that even the lockers can't make you crawl out of. Ask me how I know.

Another group tested the Zr2 and TRD Pro in the desert and they overall chose the TRD. They would have NEVER got through that mud with the tires it came on and only a rear locker! This is where the Zr2 is superior for sure!

But nobody in their right mind buys a truck because the tires it came with. That’s like buying a truck because it came with your favorite brake pads brand. Toyota chose an all terrain that lasts longer. I have the same tires on my truck as the Zr2 and they wear quickly, but are a good offroad tire

LSanti and lukestoyz the lack of a front locker would have made a big difference in getting through that mud not just the tires.

Okie Joe Perhaps your right on that one extra tire spinning would make the big difference. But one thing the Toyota has the Chevy doesn’t have is crawl control with its ability to know which tires can get traction at any particular time and modulate and switch between them to get unstuck. I would love to see this test between the two trucks with the same tires, done to where they are stuck in the mud. And see if they can get themselves out. Never seen crawl control tested in the mud before.

Who actually gets a truck like this, and keeps stock tires? It's hard enough trying to spot a Tacoma without a lift, never mind a set of good all terrain or mud tires.

I'd settle for the bigger 4.3 6 cylinder from gm in the ZR2 let alone the 5.3 or 6.2 V8s. The 4.3 offers more low end torque than the 3.6.

Just bought one of these, thanks for the great mud demo! The dampers is what makes this truck special, so compliant on AND off road and small enough footprint to maneuver in and out of daily city driving. If you’re thinking about buying one of these, there’s a lot to like about it.

Awesome! Thanks for doing a nice mud test. You have the same type of terrain that I have in Ohio, so it's nice to see how it would do in my neck of the woods. Especially because the ZR2 is one of three vehicles my wife and I are considering buying next. Keep up the good work!

Thank God for this video. I love the other guys on Fast Lane Truck but I live in Florida and we dont have dry rocky mountain paths. We have mud, and it's nice to watch how this truck performs in the mud.

I watched similar vids after I bought my '21 ZR2 about a month ago, and I immediately took it out mudding. I found some mud holes like this and drove through them like it was nothing. I didn't even realize how amazine it was until I ran into a few other folks on the trail and they couldn't believe I just went through it like no problem. Yeah, those tires are worth the hype.

I’ve had my Zr2 almost a year. Only off road has been around big bend and a few country roads in Texas . But I love it’s utility from city to country, carrying people to cargo .

Stumbled on to the this channel and wow very impressed, that was one of the best, if not the best review I've ever seen on a 4x4 truck. That's what people are suppose to buy 4x4s for and you point out all the factors involved taking your truck off road, that's what I would like to know about a truck before I buy one. You really know your stuff it's not a set up course with dirty water on a gravel bottom road that's suppose to be mud that a Honda Accord can make it through. That's real world mud. Going to look up more of your videos . Awesome buddy keep em coming.

Kudos to TFL Truck for opening a "branch office" in a decidedly different climate to give its off-roading views and analysis a new dimension. These Canadian videos are very interesting. Also: thank you for including the price of a vehicle during the presentation. I hope you always do that, even if pricing details are already available in a separate review. For many years, I am other family members have been deeply involved in volunteer recreational trails organizations. The work bees for trails can take you into some interesting venues. (Though few are as hip-deep muddy as the Ontario location seen in this show.) It would be easy to say "get a Jeep" and leave it at that, but volunteers invariably bring their personal trucks, used practically for work, home and play, so Jeeps are seldom the answer. Even if only a mid-size truck, technically not quite a half-ton, this Colorado could still be used to haul personnel, equipment and materiel to remote locations quite handily. The price of new trucks is stratospherically ridiculous, but what you get for all that money is impressive. I like how GM has taken mid-size trucks and synthesized a kind of middle ground between Jeeps and half-ton pickups. No small feat. I agree that the GM "High Feature Engine" (3.6L V6) is simply adequate for the task. I'm hoping that GM will follow's Ford's lead with the new Ranger and eventually offer the 2019 Silverado's 2.7 turbo I4 in the Colorado, and maybe spin-off a 3.4L turbo I5; If the 2.7 is currently work 310 hp, and I5 derivative ought to be worth upwards of 387. I really hope GM doesn't pass up such an opportunity. GM made some waves in the 2000s when they last had an I5 in the smaller Colorado of that era. Maybe lightning can strike twice.

I had 3 sets of these tires on a Tacoma and Ram. I also live in Canada (Calgary) so I can also appreciate these tires including in winter. I ski and go to the mountains. They also last a long time. Not cheap but well worth its price. I totally agree so many manufacturers are putting these as standard on the more off road vehicles. I have a newer 2017 Ram Rebel with stock Toyo and really hope they are as good in winter.

I put the Cooper STT Pro's on mine. Try to keep it out of the mud as much as possible but when its to cold to snowmobile we just hop in the feilds in the truck and do some drift bang'n. Been running Cooper STT series on all the trucks for the last 5+yrs, been real happy with them

I had the same experience in mine this weekend. Thought I was stuck. But kept the power on and turned the wheel. Also the diesel with a tune is perfect power wise. Try one out!

This is way better test than gold mine hill stuff. This is more how a truck and a tire is really gonna be used. More realistic type conditions from the type of trails to the mud for the eastern side of the US. Keep up the good reviews.

I run 35" Duratracs on my lifted F350 in the winter. They are beasts in the snow as well. I can push snow with the front of the truck.

I have a crew cab LT 4x4 and it does great in the mud. I take it off road often. I was going for the Z71 model but I got a steal on a new 2018 with it being left over inventory after the 2019's came out. The rear has the mechanical locker but those front lockers on the ZR2 would be nice to have.

Could you do more of these off-road reviews as this trail looks very similar to the 'green lanes' we have in the U.K, rather than the sand dunes and rock-crawling in Colorado, and it would be great to see more trucks and tires compared here for U.K viewers. :)

My complements on your commitment to creating a quality video with a interesting mixture of A and B roll, clear audio, and smooth editing. For those that do not create videos, imagine capturing the content in this video. Land shots involve setting up the camera, backing to a location before the scene, driving through the scene, then returning to retrieve the camera. Including a tripod camera on the land, I’m seeing at least four cameras plus separate device for audio. Thats a lot of content to edit.
