After having rented here in Mexico for years, my advice is if you can rent from a local Mexican, you will probably get a much cheaper and better deal. Renting from an expat, foreign investor will cost you.

Yes, this is in a desirable city where lots of wealthier Mexicans vacation. And all these people are living in the downtown area. The key is finding a location that's less popular, but also still has furnished rentals. If you have your own furniture (and some appliances) then you could rent for much less. Also, signing a one year lease will lower the cost greatly.

@@AlmostRetiredinMexico both. I found San Ysidro easier because the blue line was right there. CBX simply is easier but your left in no man’s land and a $20+ cab ride to public transportation.
@kevinrod1635
@kevinrod1635 8 ай бұрын
But the CBX is $15 and San Ysidro is free. So, it’s probably a 5 or 10 dollar difference. One thing to keep in mind is that CBX is hassle free and few people use it. Where as San Ysidro is a main thoroughfare for everyone and quite the hike with all kinds of others crossing. Another thing to keep in mind is a visa. USA citizens do not require a visa if going into Mexico within so many miles of the boarder so at that crossing immigration pays no attention. LaPaz requires a visa so you need to get that visa at the boarder crossing otherwise you will not be able to board the plane. Also if I cross into Mexico at San Ysidro to go south I use my Uber app and go across the street from those cab hackers and it’s cheaper! But you need pesos in your Uber account.

@@kevinrod1635How does Panama rate compared to Mexico?
@kevinrod1635
@kevinrod1635 3 ай бұрын
@@eh3477 from what I’ve expierenced they’re both pretty much equal in all departments except for cash grabbing in Mexico. I never see the amount of discrepancy in prices in Panama. Maybe because Panamanian people understand how much tourism plays a key role in their GNP whereas the Mexicans see a quick opportunity not GNP. Never felt I was being scammed in Panama whereas I constantly found myself on high alert anywhere in Mexico. Totally different vibe! The Panamanians want people to come and enjoy the country and come back again and again whereas some (way too many) Mexicans are into taking tourist for as much as they can as fast as they can because there is always another tourist coming down the road. I have spent quite some time in Mexico over the years and it was only when I ventured further and wound up in Panama that I realized how true that really is. It is IMO a plain same for Mexico as a whole.

I have lived in Mexico. The rent was ok, the apartment was nice (off season) but dealing with utility providers and bureaucracy was a bitch. My internet was terrible. While I was paying for 300 msb I was getting 5 mbs. Their explanation was that I was too far from their center, but they charged me for 300 msb anyway. Power, water, even if I was in an apartment, was charged, and well charged. No place is better than the US. Cheap is relative. If you want cheap you can get it right here. Is the internet very stable in La Paz or all of Baja for that matter? And what does the tap water smell like?
@AlmostRetiredinMexico
@AlmostRetiredinMexico 7 ай бұрын
Internet is pretty stable here. Not perfect, so I have Starlink as a backup. La Paz probably has the best internet of Baja California Sur. My experience in Loreto was awful internet wise. I believe the cable from the mainland comes to La Paz and spreads out from here. Tap water doesn't smell. But it's not drinkable and it's really hard (lots of calcium.)
@AlmostRetiredinMexico

And I just found my tapwater has 15ppb of arsenic. OK to shower in, but you wouldn't want to drink it even if it was "safe to drink."
@oceanwave4142
@oceanwave4142 7 ай бұрын
@@AlmostRetiredinMexico hmm so do you even boil pasta and cook rice with that water? I red 15ppb is 1.5 times above the limit for drinking water. Probably best to stay on the safe side. In cities, almost nowhere on earth is the water really good to drink, even in Montreal, although you can drink it, it tastes and smells like chlorine and there is who knows what in there too... The thing is, in some places like in Mauritius, the water generally smells like algae, to the point where you have to rinse your drinking cup with purchased water if you want your tea to taste normal. And when showering in it, it irritates your eyes and can lead to complications, lots of people have red eyes there, so even if you don't drink it, it can be so bad that it is basically unliveable for people who weren't born in it... Since Mauritius, where that problem was generalised all over the island, I am really on my guards.
@oceanwave4142
@oceanwave4142 7 ай бұрын
@@AlmostRetiredinMexico Do you think you could have only starlink then, or is starlink over there also not perfect? I am thinking of day trading, you don't need a very fast connection but the internet can never go out, or if it does maybe once a year ok. You can own it near the ocean. You need to set up a trust in Mexico. Common solution for many years.
