Poppy seeds (posto as it is called in Bengali) form a major part of Bengali cuisine. And so does mustard oil. Lucky for me that I like both! This dish is traditionally served at the beginning of a meal, and is followed by other delicacies - mostly fish or sometimes chicken dishes. But for today, let us just stick to the original Aloo posto | Bengali style mashed potatoes with poppy seeds.

Ingredients -
1. 3 table spoons poppy seeds
2. 3 table spoons hot water
3. 250 grams potatoes
4. Water to boil the potatoes
5. 1 onion, finely chopped
6. ¼ cup coriander leaves, finely chopped
7. 4 -5 green chillies, adjust according to taste
8. ¾ tea spoon salt, adjust according to taste
9. 2 table spoons mustard oil

This is a different version of aloo posto.

Yes, we call it posto bhaate. It’s different from the cooked version of aloo posto, where the posto is also cooked. I personally prefer this version, so shared it here😀
