Chutney pudi is a spiced lentil powder (pudi in Kannada, podi in Telugu and Tamil, meaning powder in English). It is a staple condiment in south Indian homes. I think there are just hundreds of variations of this powder, with each one tastier than the other. Chutney pudi is usually served with hot rice and ghee. It can also be eaten with pappu and rice, chapathi, curd rice, dal rice, idli, dosa, oh the indications for use are endless. Chutney pudi can add taste and flavour to any food and enhance your meal. We have grown up having one or the other version of chutney pudi with every meal and this version, the Andhra style chutney pudi with garlic is my favourite.

Ingredients -
Channa dal - ½ cup
Toor dal - ½ cup
Roasted gram (huri kadale) - 1 tbl spn
Garlic pods - 8, peeled
Rajasthani red chillies - 18
Kashmiri red chillies - 12
Cumin seeds) - 1 tsp
Fenugreek seeds - ¼ tsp
Coriander seeds - ½ tsp
Tamarind - 1 gooseberry sized ball
Curry leaves - 10
Asafoetida - ¼ tsp
Salt to taste

You can add a little ghee and eat with idli, dosa, roti. You can mix with hot rice and eat. Most often we eat it with regular rice and sambar as a side condiment like how we eat pickle
