In this video I talk about the common parts shared between these boilers brands and how to set it up.
Its a long and involved process and we need to do it properly.

Very, very informative as always Ollie👍 It’s a very popular wee boiler the Alpha, but I’m sure the commissioning details you gave would go straight over most installer’s heads. Some very redeeming features on these, however the non-standard DIN is a pain. Of course if Alpha were up-front with the true commissioning requirements it would put a lot of people off buying them. But hey, they’re no different from all the others, well, with some exceptions. Mate, your videos are Gold Dust to our industry, keep up the good work👍

Thanks. :-).. The idea behind it is very good. Its just not reliable enough. The combustion changes too much over the years and they take time to put right. I have done way too many of these now (Not Alpha) the gas valves are not consistent enough.

Good video... very complicated boilers these alphas!! Good to see one set-up manually, doesn’t look like there is much range in the settings tho, the low / high / ignition are only at 9.0 / 9.1 / 9.0 ?? I’ll stick to my Worcester’s over these

Bertelli are, I believe, now owned by Baxi. The gas valve as pointed out by HG was used on the Baxi GA range (R-I-P!), I worked for Baxi during the GA range release and that valve just would not work properly. We were visiting the same customers trying various fixes as advised by Baxi D & D department. Nothing worked!
@HeatingGeek

The valve is a lot more reliable now but still won't float correctly (over a few years) so it needs time spent to set it up. Probably every other service tbh.

Thanks HG very helpful, I have to go back to one on Friday with a new gas valve, but I will do the set up first on Max, Min, and Ignition to see if that works (Boiler was going to E133, DuoTec 28GA). It was making a funny noise, as was the gas meter and the CO2 was miles out (4.9%), engineer ordered a gas valve so I will see. Thanks again!

Hi I had my Main Combi 30 HE boiler replaced with a new Valiant ecoTec Pro 30kw combi boiler 2 days ago. Later that day when I had a shower I noticed that the water flow rate wasn't as strong/fast as it was before. Do you know why this could potentially be. Thank you in advance.

Flue gas analysers have to be calibrated (by law) on a yearly basis. Clearly this boiler which is claimed can self analyse it's flue gas falls well short of that requirement. The makers need to be held accountable.
@HeatingGeek
@HeatingGeek 5 жыл бұрын
It checks the flame quality not the flue gases. It also displays the fault codes to show that there is an issue which is why I was there. The boiler does exactly what its meant too. The gas valve is difficult to set up and doesn't hold its settings very well. As soon as that happens the boiler displays a fault code. :-)
@gowergas5034
@gowergas5034 5 жыл бұрын
So, in self calibration it's solely measuring the ionisation current and adjusting the gas valve on that info alone. I'm lucky not to have seen any of these (I'm mostly commercial stuff). I'm curious to know if they ever drift out of setting enough to produce high co? Setting them up looks a bit of a nightmare, would it be possible to do it in Dhw mode ( like a Worcester greenstar) to keep the temperature down,? 👍
@HeatingGeek
@HeatingGeek 5 жыл бұрын
@@gowergas5034 Thats right. They do drift out and get high CO. Thats when they put fault codes up. Any slight change in gas quality or pressure causes the same fault codes too. Its like trying to run on a knife edge. I really want to get into commercial. I have the ticket but no work. :-)
