The thing I appreciated MOST about this video...the background noise demonstration. Not only was it freakin' hilarious, it was accurate to the life of most streamers! A lot of streamers don't have a dedicated space...myself included. I share a playroom with my kids. I don't normally stream until they're in bed. But I'm also right next to the kitchen. So...if ANYONE does dishes, clank clank clank...my mic picks up a lot of that. This demo alone may be enough for me to consider switching to an MV7. Thanks for showing it to us!

@studiovulcan4411
@studiovulcan4411 3 жыл бұрын
Because everyones voice is the same and so they just need to make a once off product that will work with everyone *rolls eyes* Streamers need to take their finger out of their ass and realise if they want their voice to sound the way they want through a mic, they'll have to EQ. No mic is going to inherently sound the way you wish without that because your voice is different from Joe Bloggs who streams down the road. This isn't a hard concept to understand, it's just streamers being lazy and unwilling to learn something that takes less than a day to understand. Companies should not do everything for you.
@SandlyCut
@SandlyCut 3 жыл бұрын
I am only buying it because its USB. it will cost me 350€ ( Mic + mic stand) VS SM7B Cost +800€ (Mic + stand + audio interface + cloud lifter + XLR cable) Here in Finland all that just to use a microphone for gaming.. :) and that's why MV7 is PERFECT.

Podmic is super fantastic, if you have an interface or mixer that you can use, it's a no brainer. Starting out though, if you're going to buy one and have to buy an interface or mixer, you'll probably spend close to the same as the MV7 so it's definitely pretty close competition wise.

I love that you pointed out EQ'ing to match your voice. Most of your audience, gamers, without a audio/music background would not think of this. Beginning streamers on't need a $400 mic. All you need is something reasonable, which can be easily found for around $100. Then EQ it to tailor to your own voice. Do some research on free plug ins as well like amps and compressors. Makes a world of difference. I personally use an Audio-Technica AT2035 and use the free Manley Voxbox plugin that came free with my Universal Audio interface. Works great. The MV7 would be an awesome upgrade, not because the sound quality, but the features on it that are very relevant to gamers. It's sound quality is good enough that I could tailor it to my voice

GREAT GREAT review I had to show this to my wife who has been looking to swap out her Audiotechnica AT2021 & she was looking at the Shure and the Rode mic. Shure didn't replace the SM7b, the game streamers and podcasters have another option though. On their website they have an article all about it. The MV7 isn't a replacement, merely an alternative. Nice clickbait title though

I may be a bit biased towards Shure since I like working with their stuff but this microphone is a game changer in my opinion. As someone who doesn't stream but loves quality game chat audio but also wants to have a quality mic for recording or podcasting I think this is a great mic. The Shure sound is there and its very versatile. I feel like I could bring this mic on the go or use it at home without needing a lot of setup. Plus its cheaper than the SM7B but I think still holds a lot of that sound quality.

Nice review! I'm glad you also like the Rode PodMic, cuz I have 2 of those mics to go with my Rode Rodecaster. Had to wait many weeks for those PodMics to finally be in stock only for a brief nanosecond before selling out again. The Shure MV7 looks very slick, too bad you didn't test out the smartphone companion app capability. B&H Photography KZfaq channel came out with their own MV7 mic review and showed a demonstration of the smartphone companion app whereby the "Auto Level" feature was very slick so you don't have to speak so closely to the MV7 mic, as it will automatically adjust the gain volume even if you move around a bit back and forth and side to side from the mic. I find that Auto Level feature to be useful so you don't need to practice "proper mic" technique which can be tiresome for long sessions.

I'm using a Samson Meteor mic and have been for almost 5 years, I bought it for about 60 dollars. It's on a cheap boom arm, I put a pop filter on it and I use VoiceMeeter Banana to slightly up both high and low frequencies, with a little bit of emphasis on low for the bass in my voice and to pick up less keyboard. It's set to pick up audio in mono and lowered to 25% of its total gain in the control panel. Still today, it sounds way better than most content creators' 400-500+ dollar mics, as people seem to think the quality is all in the price tag or something and just plug their mic in and go, without setting anything up. It's ironic.

part of its marketing was the MV app that you can use in USB mode. I wonder if that makes it sound better vs and xlr and then having to eq afterwards
